If you can redesign a fish tank pump you must be able to come up with something involving electricity and serious injury .
You could make a bunch and sell them   ;D

It would be easy enough to rig up a fencer using the exhaust system as the ground and running a positive screening close but out of eyesight.  However, the power surge when the circuit is completed might be a bit hard on computers in the vehicle.  Maybe not, but there must be some reason they warn about disconnecting the computers and radios before doing certain electrical work.

Just got the final  estimate from ford. Since they deatroyed some of the emissions electrical  and the exhaust  mainfolds, total bill is $19.1k.

$250 deductable, but gd.

we are talking 140# 7' long and about 10" in diameter.  With sensors and tubes, fuel lines and cats.  They are about 9k from ford.

That is why there is such a large black market in cat cons and def systems.  It is called platinum!  Beyond the value of the metal, there is a need for used systems for  those who have theirs stolen.

its also they are 9k new from the dealer and by federal law you can not buy used cats..  there are no after market parts.  So you are looking at a doner truck or theft.   From what i have been told its not as bad as tail gate theft, hut its getting close.

I HATE, and I mean HATE theives. 2 years ago I have my storage unit broke into while we were in the middle of moving to a new house. The Insurance setlement was @22K but as time goes on we are STILL finding itmes missing that the A$$#0L#$ got. The got ALL of my ammo I had stored there. At that time I had at least 5K of every caliber I use. .380, .38, .357, 9mm, .45, 5.56, 7.62x39, .308 ALL of it. At least I have the sense to not store any weapons there but they did get 2 AR striped lowers. I HATE THEIVES.

Spoke too the adjuster  today, they are actually going to total  it out.

I am not sure what to think.     The truck only has 28k miles on it.

I remember the good old days when you could cut the cat out and buy a "test tube", weld it on and you were good to go. We sold the crap out of those at our parts store. But, they never let you get away with that stuff for long. Sensors for this and that. Oh thats not enough?  Try this fluid for the environment and good luck figuring out how to bypass this shit!!!  Technology is good....sometimes!

That was fast, had a wire transfer for the value of the truck sent to me at 11:59 last night.

Now comes  the hard part.  Findind a new truck.    I looked for 6 months for that one.  I just cant stomach the 80k to drive a new one off the lot.

We are looking to trade.  Current vehicles are an 06 and an 07.  We buy good used, few year old, and drive them into the ground.  Not quite, but for a long time.  Can save a lot by buying three year old with low miles.  Daughter and S-I-L buy new and trade every three years.  The price tag is scary, but when you do it the way they do, they have good value for trade.  When we were farming I always found that if you were going to buy new you needed to have a system worked out by your CPA, and stick to it for the pricing to work.

Actually they have always been cleaner than gas. That black smoke cloud is particles that fall to the ground rather than the gasses that come from gas engines.

I am not sure what to think.     The truck only has 28k miles on it.

Buy it back and delete the other crap out.  You bought it that way, right?

We just got a new truck for my wife.  All DEF systems suck.

A consideration was, for Ford, that a friend of mine had around $20k of warranty work on it when the dealer finally told him he could not idle the truck for extended periods or the warranty would be void.  He's oilfield, the truck is his office, it runs 24/7 if it needs to.  His dad was a Ford Motor Credit guy for 28 years.  He now drives a Dodge.  The Dodge people gave it to him in writing that he could idle it until he's ready to buy a new truck that they did not care and the warranty would be good.

So..we wound up with a 1/2 ton Dodge if we need more we've a 2002 Excursion and 2006 F250 diesel without all the DEF crap on it.  And...the Dodge are really nice vehicles about $20k less than the Fords (which we have bought since the 80's).

But...back to your issue.  Delete is the solution if you can get your old truck.

He will have the same issue with the dodges and a bunch of other ones.   Unless  you have the maneul regen option  and use it often, you are going to run into issues.

Just a fyi, deleting emmisions equipment  is actually a federal felony.  Now the likely  hood of you getting prosecuted  for it is incredibly  low.... just ask my younger brother about what it can do to your life.   He was able to plead down, but still paid a 50k fine.

He is in ca, but got cuaght street racing.   Deleting also voids your warrenty, not something i am willing to do on an 80k truck.  Unlike the older smogged diesels, the newer ones record what you are doing and will tell on you when the dealer hooks them up to the computer.     You have to reflash the computer to wipe it clean now.  Its something they lool for and voids your warrenty now unless its done at a dealership and recorded.   With 7 year 100k mile power train warranties, its not as vaible of an option as it was a few years back.   Heaven forbid you have to go thru scales and get pulled  over for inspection.
