This has been my favorite for some time now. Features strong vocals by Sarah McLachlan. Old song with a modern rendition. Of course it is years old itself

The lead singer was a heavy smoker and died of lung cancer when she was 40. I wonder if she got coal in her stocking? Or just tar in her lungs?

I have this CD by Ethan James, The Ancient Music of Christmas. He was member of Blue Cheer, a record producer, recording engineer, and master of the hurdy gurdy who also played the symphonium. On this album of ancient holiday carols he plays the hurdy-gurdy, saz (a Middle eastern lute), and guitar. He's accompanied only by Catherine Alexander, whoever she may be, on percussion. It couldn't be much more different from Summertime Blues.
I tried posting the playlist for the album but can't. If you scroll down slightly on this page to Albums you can click to play all 15 songs.

And because I'm not tired of it yet I'll add Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
