Title: TV shows watched by democrats and republicans
Post by: Big Frank on April 08, 2018, 12:26:33 PM
I've seen the same type of infographics seen here comparing other differences between democrats and republicans. I'm not typical of either party. Of the 5 shows democrats are more likely to watch, I've never seen a single episode of any of them. Of the 5 shows republicans are more likely to watch, I think I saw the first 1 or 2 of 6 seasons of Last Man Standing, Antiques Roadshow several years ago, no college football ever, a few minutes of NASCAR while waiting for the next show to start, and the first season of Survivor. I don't currently watch any of the 5 shows that either democrats or republicans are more likely to watch.

Of the Top 10 shows on TV shown here for democrats, I watched one episode of Big Bang Theory after someone kept saying what a great and funny show it was. I didn't laugh once at that stupid show. I've never seen a single episode of any of the other 9 shows. Of the Top 10 shows on TV shown here for republicans, it's the same exact thing. I think I watch 5-6 hours of TV a day on average, but don't watch any of the most popular shows that democrats or republicans watch. BTW, I don't watch Rosanne either, but I think I saw a little bit of it when it was on years ago.

Don't watch any of the shows on any of the lists.

I used to follow Big Bang Theory but then whats-her-name slammed gun owners so I stopped supporting her show.

I really don't watch any shows while they are airing.....I have the TV on while I am awake and home...but just tuned to the local Fox channel for background noise.

Anything I am interested in, I DVR to watch on my schedule, not theirs.

I have just set Rossanne to recorde, and watched the first episode I captured...not bad, but nothing great.  I will keep it on my DVR schedule even if I delete each episode unwatched just to giver her a rating boost.

Where is Jeopardy in all this?  And what does that mean?

I love NCIS.  And who does not like Fixer Upper's Chip & Jo?  I'm a football, 'merican football fan.  Don't get off on cars that only make left hand turns.  No to all network commedies, except LMS.  And no to all the reality shows, even ones like the Voice.  A pox on the TV writers for their strike.

Rosanne?  Both she and Goodman are lousy actors in this.  They have no subtlety nor finesse when delivering their lines.  They just shout out one joke after the other.  The kids, and grandkids do much better.  I'll continue to DVR it to support the issues, but not sure I'll watch too much of it.

Well heck, I like Shooting Gallery, Best Defense and Gun Stories!!!  I bet the libs don't watch those shows.

I also pick up some of the other shooting/hunting shows on OC and a couple other satellite channels.

 ;D

"And who does not like Fixer Upper's Chip & Jo?" Uhm. People who have never even heard of them.

I don't watch Roseanne because no one has a gun to my head. I never could stand listening to her, even back when she was doing stand-up and not a TV show.

As far as shooting shows go, Outdoor Channel would add another 10 bucks a month to my cable bill. For $120 per year, I'll do without.

I can only think of one reality show that I watch, and that's Face Off on Syfy. Season 13 will run sometime this year.

My only experience with JAG was a female officer who said to me, "Oh, I've just been dying to meet you!", and that's when I knew I needed to hire a civilian lawyer. After my real life experience with JAG, I had no desire to see what Hollywood makes them out to be. The same goes for JAG's spinoff, NCIS. I've never seen either one of them.

Cable?  Have you ever thought about satellite?  Satellite is usually cheaper than cable and OC costs $3.50 a month on satellite. I think that gets me two other channels with shooting, hunting and fishing as well.  The least expensive package is like $60 a month that includes syfy...add for OC and still less than $65 a month.

Plus, cable I've seen is funky.  It's a mix of high definition and squashed video that stretches out to the sides or compresses in.  I don't have that with the satellite...that alone is worth the price of admission.

I have thought about satellite. AT&T wants me to bundle DIRECTV and their "high speed" internet with my home phone service. I just went to speedtest.net and my actual download speed from Comcast is a fraction over 94 times faster than the best that AT&T offers in my area. So that bundle is out of the question. Outdoor Channel comes with the DIRECTV Premiere Package for $110 a month for 12 months, then $181 a month for the next 12 months, then whatever they want to charge afterward. That's for TV service only. I didn't see anything about adding Outdoor Channel to a lower priced package. I'm already paying $69.95 a month for cable, and that's enough. There's no way I'm going to pay an extra $1,332.60 a year to watch a few shooting shows per week. My monthly bill would be about 2.6 times higher than it is now.

I have a different perspective on this. On this us conservatives that actually believe in rights are too damn tired when they get home from work to watch TV.

I wouldn't bundle...ever.

You have to go to the link below and scroll down to see what the packages have.  The $35/month (actually $56.50 a month after the special goes off in year two) has SyFy and FoxNews.  $3.50 a month to ADD the  Outdoor Channel to the package.  $60/month for two years.  Not $145 average and less than the $69.95 you are paying now.

You don't have to buy Premier to get OC.  Their website is intentionally confusing.  I like Dish better, but when they dropped Fox in a dispute for a week or so and would not refund me anything I dropped their ass.  I'll go back to them one day....I think you can get more channels for about the same money as Directv plus the $3-5 buck a month OC adder.

That looks like the same page I looked at earlier. All the HD channels won't do me much good on my non-HD TV. The cheapest package would work for me, but after 12 months it goes up to $78 a month. $56.50 a month average for 2 years, but $78 a month afterward. That's more than I'm paying now, but not quite 12%, so it's not too bad. I would be able to get 7 local channels including 2 different PBS channels. tvguide.com says I should be able to get about 95 channels with an antenna now, but I usually watch the same 5 non-PBS channels in this package, so that's okay.

If I could try it for a month or two maybe I would, but I don't like the idea of getting stuck with a 2 year contract for something I may not like. If I quit their service early I would have to pay $20 a month until the 2 years were up. And I don't see where it says you can add channels to the package. Where's that located? Is there a monthly equipment fee of any kind?

So much this. Still, I haven't watched a television show for nearly 10 years now, so what do I know? I listen to radio/Pandora and read till I fall asleep, then I get up and go to bed.

I used to watch 2 or 3 hours of TV most days when I was working. When I was on second shift I recorded whatever sounded good, from 8-11 P.M. on a VCR while I worked. When I got home around 1 A.M. I would eat dinner and watch my shows. There's no way I could sleep right after work anyway. I didn't have cable back then. I only got it after I got a computer and got high speed internet service. That was all after I quit working.

"Survival Sunday: The Walking Dead & Fear the Walking Dead" is happening tonight. 750 select movie theaters across the country will be showing the season finale of The Walking Dead, followed by the season premier of Fear The Walking Dead, the same time they're on tonight. Fans will also get a commemorative poster and there will be bonus content. It starts at 8:30 instead of 9:00 at the theater 1.4 miles from me. Tonight is the first, and maybe only, crossover between the two shows.

Also tonight, a new episode of Ash vs Evil Dead will be on STARZ. I don't get STARZ, and can neither confirm nor deny that I already downloaded it from an unnamed source before I went to bed last night.

I just went to the link and tried to make some sort of sense of it.  My take:  Someone is trying to make a buck doing research on something that doesn't matter, and some "reporter" is trying to stir the pot of differences, with a bunch of nothing.

Is there really a difference between the groups like they are trying to show?  Look at the number of same shows on the two lists, and ask yourself "What would the lists look like if they expanded it to 20?".

After the top 10 shows that most people watch, I think they would get farther apart the longer the list got. Many people watch mainly shows that aren't in the top 10. I doubt there are many of democrats glued to The Outdoor Channel, for example.

I think most TV shows are made by democrats. Like Lethal Weapon. In last week's episode Riggs comes walking in with the hit-man's rifle while Murtaugh, who knows everything about the guy, is telling everyone else about him and his gun, etc. The rifle looked like an M21 sniper rifle, or an M14 with a scope on it. Murtaugh explains that the rifle is an M25 bolt-action. I think he said something about snipers everywhere using it, or something equally wrong. The M25 is an improved version of the M21 based on a match grade M14. Definitely not a bolt-action. Democrats typically know what end of a rifle the bullets come out of, but only after someone explains it to them. They must be the ones making shows like that.

I have literally hundreds of available channels since we expanded our cable since I retired. And in all honesty I've never seen so much sheer crap on TV in my entire life. The same movies over and over. Month in and month out. Reruns of every 80's TV show.... Over and over. For Christ's sake, how many times can you watch, "Top Gun" and, "Road House", along with reruns of "Rosanne" and "Reba"?

Back when I was a kid, and TV was free, there was always something good to watch. From 6:00 PM until bedtime. And a typical TV season was well over 25 to 28 episodes. Not like today where a "season" consists of a dozen new episodes. Sometimes even less, before they start rerunning them. Shows like "Wanted Dead Or Alive", "Have Gun Will Travel", "The Rifleman", all ran new episodes from early September to late Spring. They even would call them "Summer reruns", because they wouldn't start until then. And there are more commercials on now then ever before. In spite of paying for cable. Many 1 hour prime time shows are being rerun in 75 minute time slots. All so they can put in more commercials.

"Pop" network is now doing this daily as it reruns the whole 15 season run of "E.R."...... Over and over.... 3 episodes a day. (They are now starting on the third rerun of the whole 15 season show). Every 1 hour episode runs for an hour and fifteen minutes. Back in the 60's and 70's when we used to watch "Bonanza" on Sunday night, they would have only 4, one minute commercials in the entire program. Many others like "The F.B.I.", along with "The Fugitive" were shown in "Act 1 through Act 4", again with only 4 commercial breaks during the entire 1 hour program, finishing off with a one or two minute "Epilog" at the very end, closing the story out.

30 minute shows had only one commercial break at the 15 minute mark. Now they break 3 times or more in a half hour show. It's hard to keep your level of concentration up through the thing. Many times I'll just get fed up, start searching other channels, and abandon one program for another halfway through it. It's not like you're missing anything. TV has really gone to $h!t.

Most hour long TV shows have about 19 minutes of commercials, so it's almost 1 part commercials for 2 parts show. And life is too short to watch reruns of anything. I'm still trying to catch up with all the shows I missed in the past week. I normally catch up on the weekend but spent most of my time working on my computer for a week.

Thanks to TV, I now know that a bump stock can be installed in 3 seconds flat and turn an AR into a machine gun. It can even fire full auto if you point it up in the air one-handed.  ::)  No wonder the loony left doesn't know $#!+ about ARs or any other firearms. They don't seem to know the difference between fiction and fact. Or what a shoulder thing that goes up is really for.

P.S. If any democrats are reading this, the barrel is on the end facing away from your shoulder.
