I'm looking to purchase one of two different Ruger convertible single action revolvers. One is a 45acp/45lc and the other 9mm/.357mag. I really like the the .45acp but I'm on the fence about adding a new caliber like 45lc to system. i know the 9mm seems a bit out of place in this kind of firearm but come on the 9mm is so much cheaper to shoot. Some advice would be appreciated. :D

That's a head scratcher. With the 45 you add a caliber to your loading list, but if you already do 45 acp it's not that big of a deal...one or two dies. Plus, 45LC is more of an "authentic" caliber for a SA.
357/9 is not what you'd call "authentic", but with 357 you get pretty good power and with 9 you get cheap.
I guess it depends on what you're going to do with the gun and how you're going to derive your enjoyment with it...is it utility and plinking or is it more about tradition and power?
That's all I've got...it's a tough one.

Come on guys, it's .45 Colt, not .45 Long Colt or .45LC. There is no Long Colt or Short Colt in .45 caliber. That being said Ruger .45 Colt revolvers are strong enough to use +P ammo, which can be loaded hot enough to equal a .44 Magnum, but with even heavier bullets. So, you can use anything from the most anemic cowboy loads to serious hog hunting loads, plus the other cylinder will handle any .45 ACP ammo including +P. You could also shoot .45 Super in it if you want to.

Well, the Colt 45 predates the 45ACP as proven by this song =) so Colt 45 is just that where 45 ACP has to use the ACP cause it's Junior. =)

Should we refer to .45 ACP as .45 Short Colt so people know we aren't talking about .45 "Long" Colt? I can't recall anyone I know personally saying .45 Long Colt when talking about .45 Colt. And I certainly don't know anyone who thinks .45 ACP when you say .45 Colt. A lot of people, myself included, think .45 ACP if someone just says .45 in a conversation about pistols and not revolvers, but they could mean something else like .45 Super. In a conversation about revolvers if anyone just said .45 my first thought would be .45 Colt, but they might also mean .45 Schofield or some other .45 caliber.

Exactly. I tend to want to see exact wording. If some one says a .45, even when talking about auto pistols, there are more than one of them..... Say what you mean.
The other day I read a article taling about rounds in auto pistols...they spoke about 9mm, .35, .40 and .45. The .40 seemed to be the least ambiguous, with the 9mm next, and I was pretty sure what the .45 was..but the .35 was iffy.

.35 = ??? Some kind of 9mm?
.40 = .40 S&W.
.45 = .45 ACP.
But they could be 9×25mm Dillon, .356 TSW (which is actually 9mm), .400 Cor-Bon, and .475 Wildey Magnum, or dozens of other possible combinations.

Clip and Magazine are a bit less ambigous...but very imprecise. Some one has to say it since Haz isn't paying attention.

.35 could refer to .35 S&W Auto which is actually only .309 caliber just like a .32 ACP.
There are so many possibilities you can't expect anyone to know what you're talking about if you just say the bullet diameter, either actual or just what it's named after.

Well I purchased them both. They just felt so nice in the hand and second of all I guess I'll start reloading 45lc.😉
