Post by: TAB on March 22, 2013, 02:37:13 AM
anyone have one?   I was checking out ammo prices.  5.45 is about $.25 a round delivered and its easy to get.

Buy an AK. I have heard all sorts of problems about how the AR platform doesn't like the steel cased Tula, Wolf etc. rounds. Now whether this true or not I don't know. What I do know is that a $600 (in normal times) AK is built to eat those rounds, so that's the way I'd go.

Some people complain that the 5.56x45mm is too weak but the 5.45x39 is even weaker. I wouldn't bother with it .

If all you want it for is plinking, cheap ammo is cheap ammo.

Very true, you're not going to war you're going to the range. And if you do have to use it? Well you've got thirty rouders for a reason. Still, I'd buy an AK in this caliber or just buy a regular AR in 5.56. Flip a coin.

I've been tempted to buy a 5.45 X 39 MM AK, but I've held off. The main reason is few if any make domestic ammo for it. That means if Hussein signs a kings decree banning the importation of it, you'll pretty much have a useless rifle. I'm sure if that happened companies like Hornady and Federal would start manufacturing it, but it would most likely go for $1.00 a round, and that defeats the purpose of even having the damn thing in the first place.

This has interested me quite a bit and there are a number of videos on YouTube of this rifle being fired.
