Title: NICS
Post by: tombogan03884 on May 14, 2020, 12:38:10 PM
Just walked up to the LGS to do paperwork my new toy.
Couldn't bring it home, NICS is backed up 24 -36 hours.   :-\

That's one thing I do like about Georgia's weapons license. It stands in place of the NICS check.

**If GA ever went Constitutional carry and the option to retain the license were there, I'd keep it renewed if it still functioned in that capacity.
I know this should all be moot in the grand Constitutional realm. The 2A should be all there is, but for now this is the speed bumps to be navigated over.

With the FOID in Illinois, we shouldn't have to deal with NICS.  We have already been checked and cleared, and the card is tied to the system that flags NICS.  If you go the next step for the Concealed Carry License, it is even more secure, because it requires the same questions, plus finger printing.  Both cards require photos that are suitable for, and have been run through, facial recognition.

I have never been run through NICS.   All my transfers have been in GA.    Almost did one in FL, but Hillsborough County had a 3 day waiting period and I told the dealer no thanks.

I bought a little something a couple weeks ago and NICS only took 15 minutes or so. I wonder what changed?

Pegleg, NH is Constitutional carry, but I renewed my permit anyway in case I want to carry outside the state.
Still have to go through NICS though, which sucks.

BAC, I have NEVER gotten out that quick   ;D
Maybe end of the month you caught a slow spell ?

It depends on your regional office.  On the same day you will hear people talking long delays while someone in another part of the country walks in and out.

MA we have to do NICS and the MA state registry as well.  Working they system on a busy day, with a stodgy internet connection can sometimes take better than an hour to complete a transaction.  Better than waiting three days to take home your firearm but it do suck...

We sold 160 guns on Black Friday but the state and the Fed gear up for that...it took our whole team to set that record for our store.

In PA 15 minutes IS a long delay. Of course all NICS checks are done by the state police and their “not a registry, we promise” system.

Well BAC, as I wait yet another day I just can't feel any sympathy for you if it results in checks THAT fast.   ;D

I am just glad the atf is ubder a year for nfa stuff.

I dont miss the ca 10 day bs, where the doj check was instant, but the back child support was 3-5 days and the dmv was always last day.  Dmv kick were always the most common.   Like 90% of them.  It was almost always  a ticket they got 20 years ago they did not take care of.   If you are wondering why child support was a kick back, you are techincally in violation of a court order

To hell with Ca. Finally done with those A Holes.

The miner's came in 49,
The whore's in 51,
When they got together,
They begat the native son .

Finally picked mine up yesterday, just about 24 hours.

Its sad that the liberals have done to ca.  When i was a kid i use to rid my pick down folsom Blvd  in front of the capitol with my 22 strapped to my back to kilk ground squirrels  in west Sacramento. The yolo county erosion  contorl guys would trade shells for tails.  Can you imagine what would happen now?  Hell even had a state police( now rolled in to chp) give me a ride home after dark when i had a flat on my bike.  I was so sure my ass was going to get it for not being home before dark.  This was not quite  30 years ago.

Sailor's, Miner's, and Logger's have always been centers of socialism since the days of the Wobblies, so Ca was kind of doomed to begin with, Eastern states got 1 or 2, not all 3.   ;D
Over the last 60 years I have watched the Mass state line move from it's map location up to the middle of NH   :(
It pissed off several people who asked if I favored wall on the Southern border.
Hell yes, and one between us and Mexico too.   ;D

Last Fri/Sat was SIG days at the LGS.  I've been wanting a 3.1" barrel and slide for my P365XL, but the prices for just those pieces was upwards of $400.  Heck for $100 more I could get the FCU as well.  Which is what I did.  2 Boxes of SIG ammo and $60 credit at their on-line store.  (SIG is very strict about MAP so no cash discount.  At least no advertised one.)

BUT guess what my GA Concealed License had expired.  I GOT MY FIRST EVER NICS check.  Took about 15 seconds.  And yes, it came back approved!   You worry with big brother looking over your shoulder whether they would get it right or not.

Went down to Cobb County Probate Court and had to apply for a NEW license since my had been expired 35 days.  Means it cost more and I had to get a new set of finger prints.  Cobb County bends over backwards to make the process easy (along with marriage licenses and other things they handle).  They have windows in the first floor lobby and a sign-in kiosk.  I had an 11am appointment which wasn't necessary.  When I logged in the kiosk and it spit out a ticket my number was immediately called.

I did ask the Sherriff's fingerprint department why?  Do they not have my prints already on file?  Do they go bad?  Do they change significantly?  Of course it's a source of revenue for them as they don't get paid for arrest fingerprints, but collect $20 for CWL and other licenses, so they're not going to put anything in the suggestion boxes at work.

Just thought you guys would want to know, "I passed", so you can rest easy tonight.

Whew!!
That's a relief indeed.
Living only 200 miles south I might've got worried you'd sneak into my back yard and heckle me relentlessly.

I heckle you every time I drive down to Florida on THE 75.  You just live too far off the interstate to be able to hear me. :D :D :D  Actually the plan is to heckle you all weekend coming up for the Rollin' on the River IPDA match in Valdosta.

I'll eventually find out how long it takes to get approved, or not, by NICS, but first Advanced Tactical has to get a gun to sell to me. I've been signed up for email alerts for a few months and only got ONE email alert. That was back in February and I didn't read my email soon enough that day so I missed out. Made in USA, semi-auto, box magazine fed, 14" barrel 12 gauge firearm, on sale for half of the MSRP, PLUS I get a military discount off that, IF THEY EVER GET THEM IN STOCK. What's not to like, except for the long wait? I've already bought every accessory I want for it, including spare mags and +3 extensions, but still no gun to use them with. At this rate, my Christmas present to myself will be Christmas in July IF I'm lucky. And I'm not feeling particularly lucky. It's based on the Turkish made RIA VR60 shotgun. It sounds like they couldn't import a 14" 12 gauge so they built it here, the first of many RIA-USA guns to come. The second and third are the RIA 5.0 ST and RIA 5.0 SP pistols.

Yeah Cobb County.  Yeah state of Georgia.

7 days from application till USPS dropped it in my mailbox.

It wasn’t a renewal because my old one had been expired by more than 30 days.  Then again the state license people may have used common sense and treated it like a renewal.  After all, except for this short lapse, I’ve held a GA CWL for 44 years.
