My son in law, who is a Fish and Wildlife officer here in NJ, is in intensive care. He started looking yellowish and my daughter finally got him to go in to the doctor. They sent him to the ER so his testing results would come back quicker and they kept him. He's now in ICU, will be getting dialysis, and may soon be moved to U of Penn.
He's got extensive liver damage, kidney function at about 20%, pancreatitis, and gall bladder blocked up. We don't know everything yet...they're saying he should end up with enough liver function to be able to pull through after several weeks in the hospital. Oh, and he's got one of the Corona strains...not terrible but it's another factor.
The guy is 35-36 with a wife and daughter. Please pray for his recovery.

Absolutely will I pray. This is terrible.
-
Done, God Bless!
Keep us posted..

HE, His family, and you will be in my prayers.
My God bless all of you.
-
He, and you and all of yours, have got them.
Please keep us posted - more is better than not enough.
-
Wow, hate to hear this, Jay.
I will certainly pray for all involved.

My daughter texted me awhile ago that now they're talking liver transplant. I told her they always come out with the worst news and then work their way back as things improve. I hope I'm not bullshitting her.
-
If it does come to that, the liver is the one organ that the donor regrows after it's bisected and transplanted into the recipient. Not much consolation, I know..
Continued good thoughts, be strong for yer baby girl, Maggie and the rest of the family..
-
So sorry. Not the way your family wanted to spend the holidays.
I hope in the end it doesn't require as severe a treatment and that he'll regain full health soon.
-
Prayers sent.
God Bless,
Richard

Thank you all for the prayers and support. He has perked up quite a bit over the weekend and is at least coherent. Kidneys seem to be working better but not 100%. Tomorrow the doctors will be back with tests and assess where he's at.
The plus side for me is that I came up to my daughters house and I've been hanging out with my 6 year old granddaughter and taking care of their dogs. Having a BLAST except for the lousy circumstances.
-
Good to hear....prayers for continuing improvement and healing.

Hi...got home from a delightful couple of days with my granddaughter. My SIL is still improving...not out of the woods but his kidneys are working and they have postponed dialysis to see if his improvement is a trend. Still not sure about his liver and gall bladder, but the fact that he's eating some solids looks good. The family is happy with his care so the shift to U Penn is cancelled unless he has a setback.
Thank you for the prayers.

Well, today's update isn't so good. They are pounding his liver with steroids and won't know any indicated of how that is working for 2 more days. Meanwhile the liver guys are advocating U Penn, so that if the liver doesn't snap to they can work on a transplant.
I feel so bad for my girl. She can't believe what's happening. She's holding up well and being tough but this is so huge and it's looking like a really long haul.
-
Thanks for the update. You all remain in our prayers!
-
Thank you all. Last night they took him over to U Penn. Hospitals don't get much better than that, so we'll see.
-
Continued prayers...

As of yesterday my girl says she's happy with the new digs and docs. They are looking at symptom management and nutrition as a first approach, with transplant and dialysis as plan B. Sounds pretty good to me.
Thanks for your support.

As of yesterday, Mike was placed high on the National Transplant list. They are trying to build up his strength while waiting for the right liver to come along.
-
After being through something similar years ago with my wife on the heart transplant list at least now you have a direction. That's something.
I'm praying he'll improve and be able to dodge the liver transplant.
Ken

Thank you, my friend.
