I've been thinking of getting that new Ruger Mini 14 Davidson's is offering with the Tactical black metal and flash suppressor, and Circassian Walnut stock, but I wasn't sure, so I thought I would go look at a Mini 14 Tactical at Cabela's before I ordered anything. Well, you know the story. They had this really nice Springfield M-1A SOCOM they just unboxed and put on the rack. Suddenly the Mini 14 didn't look so good. So after spending over twice as much I took the SOCOM home. It's a hell of a lot more rifle than the Mini 14 could ever hope to be on it's best day! This gun points like a Sporting Clays Shotgun!

It has the Trijicon illuminated front post with the Ghost Ring rear sight set up. I need to get a nice black nylon padded sling for it. I haven't decided if I'll go with a scout scope setup, or just keep it the way it is with the factory irons. Either way I'll take it out and light up a few next weekend. I got all of my crap done around the house, stuff I've been putting off, so now it's plat time!    Bill T.

Yes, This is the first SOCOM I've owned. I have another M-1A but it's full sized. I really love the way this gun handles. It's weight is really distributed well which surprised me. For some reason I thought the gun would be heavy and cumbersome, but that is not the case at all. I can't wait to light off a few! This rifle is really impressive in the way it's made. It feels and sounds solid when you let the bolt ride home. Springfield really builds a nice rifle.  Bill T.

Sweet rifle, and you can't go wrong either way.  I'd go for a fix powered scope myself.  Good buy, as long as its Garand action you can't go wrong!

Congratulations Bill,

That's a sweet 16. That short barrel would make for a great ranch gun. Light weight, built solid and packs a whallop. What more could you ask for.

Look forward to a range report.

Enjoy,

Kid

NICE RIFLE!

I have been pondering one of those for a patrol rifle.

Will you be posting a range report?

Andy

Just as soon as I get it up and running. Hopefully next Friday if I'm off. One thing I didn't mention that kind of impressed me is the chamber was polished to an almost mirror finish, with double feed ramps polished the same way. I like that kind of attention to detail in a rifle. It makes parting with that many dollars a little easier to take.   Bill T.

Lots of (relatively) 308/7.62 ammo coming available the last couple of weeks.  I've got my feet propped up on 2 battle packs of 200 each from Wideners.

Ahh Billt she is gorgous! Isn't funny when you buy a battle rifle you don't even think the "other" choice can even keep up.
Now you need to get the Smith Enterprises Vortex Flash hider that is made for the 16 and show everybody how much the rifle can own the night, day, inside and outside of every situation.

PM inbound.

While costly, the M1-A is one of those weapons that grows on you, until you find yourself unable to avoid purchasing one. I have a feeling while this is my second one, it won't be my last. Definitely a lot of performance in a small, controllable package.  Bill T.

It's on my purchase list.  I saw on at the range and the guy had it set up with a scout scope and looked like it handled well.  And you can always put a mini red dot piggy-back for closer work.

I use Federal 150 grn xm762d or american eagle 150's 99% of the time. She runs silky smooth and is minute of hog ready every time. ;D
