Without a doubt the reason for Christmas is to celebrate Christ's birth and that is complete in and of itself.
This year seems less tense and we have simmering optimism for the nation because of the political change about to be enjoined upon us.
8 years of Obama is about to come to a close. For me, that's a very merry thing.
-
Maybe not to put the Merry in Merry Christmas...but for sure to put the Happy in Happy New Year..
No Hillary, no Obama and a Trump who, hopefully, will keep his important promises......lynching Hillary would be a satisfying one..and should be done...but others are more important.
-
The last Christmas with Obama in the white house. Very merry indeed.

My first grandchild, and of course, the end of the obama/clinton era

Put my certificate down for my free G17. I did have to pay a $35 upgrade fee to Gen 4.
We're ending the year with money in the bank. Always a good thing.

Happy Holidays to the men and women at home and around the world that keep us safe...a nostalgic tip of the hat to those Operators and Analysts that work in windowless buildings, serve on naval ships, or fly Rivet Joint missions, that monitor the bad guys 24/7/365

Nicely put Les!
40 years ago today, I was doing a swing back shift at Naval Facility Keflavik, Iceland! We tracked Santy through our SOSUS network all day and night!
Merry Christmas to all!
God Bless our troops!

A Merry and Blessed Christmas to my DRTV forum friends.
Didn't vote in this poll because I celebrated options 2 thru 5 for Thanksgiving.
Saw my first grand child, my grandson earlier this month.

Nice Timothy. Nice.
We did the butt pork roast. I should have left it in a bit longer...
Forgot to make the salad but had some good potato salad.
Yes. A Merry day indeed this year.
I hope all of you had a Merry Christmas.

We left on the 26th and went to a cabin in the Blue Ridge area with the entire family (11 of us). Somewhat of a nice 3 days all together but with enough space you could have time to yourself occasionally.
Here's the highlight of Christmas.

On top is Kuhnhausen's shop manual on S&W revolvers. So much stuff about pivot pin taper and bolsters and other technical details of these revolvers. All written from his experience. Really cool, about how to fix certain problems and where to expect wear.
Next is Supica's 4th Edition of THE Standard Catalog of S&W.
And last is Jefferson Bourbon, Special Reserve rumored to have been a left behind cask from the previous distillery owner. Oh so smooth. Wait, wait, there's more. I ended up with two "special reserve" bottles and 2 regular. Should last until the spring.
Happy New Year all. <clink>

Nice. Really nice.
We didnt' even get a tree up this year. I got some slacks for work. One really neat thing from my mom was a clock with a map from home on it.....

Sorry, had the boys in for Christmas, then 14 people for a second Christmas Friday night, haven't been online much at all. As my lovely bride likes to say, we had our best maid and butler uniforms on!
Anyhow, Merry Christmas to all on DRTV, hope it was fun, interesting and a joyous time for all.

Path with all those people around did you get any of them to help with putting up a ham radio antenna?

And what part of "best maid and butler uniforms" wasn't clear, Ken?????
And, no, no one helped. Need to find a way to thwart the HOA. Have a Dish dish so will be cutting a slot and running 2m. Hope no one notices it's pointing north toward the repeater and not SW toward the satellite . . . .
Looking at a gutter antenna or using my large blown insulation-filled attic for a mini-G5RV but it's been quite a year. Maybe 2020, wouldn't that be nice?
-
I picked up the maid and butler comment....looks like a cop out to me.
If you have the radiant barrier reflective foil under your roof forget the inside the attic thing...too much power reflected back. It made my antennas pretty much useless. If you don't have the barrier, slight googlefu research will show trimming up a couple of 440 or 450 ohm ladder lines and connecting them to a balun. That's what I have....one in 20M/15M and another cut for 40M/80M. Pretty simple, all you have to do is remove part of the line at the ends for the higher frequency and at the middle twist the two together into the balun....the wavelength of your transmission will dictate which of the "legs" the power goes to.
And then there is the wire vertical...throw some green nylon up in a tree and hoist it up. Connect the vertical portion to the center conductor and the radials to the shield of the coax. You can bury the radials in the ground....voila'.

Nope, not a cop out. I didn't mention all the medical stuff, like my SIL being in the hospital for 3 days, and then with us for another 4+, all the while taking care of my brother who is deep in Alzheimer's. That started the day after I had a cardiac procedure done. So, priorities.
As for the G5RV, I've already checked the roof. Since the floor is all blown insulation, there is nothing but wood sheathing and shingles. I do need a slingshot to run the legs of the dipole through the roof trusses tho . . .
My major issue is how to run a cable to the attic, which happens to be right above my study. A thin hole for the ladder line maybe with spackling to hide the hole?
