Title: Acquisitions!

Just put a deposit down on a Sig P365...now we wait!

I just got an SCCY / Crimson Trace. $375 with transfer fee.
The NICS check went so fast the clerk never hung up,
The speed of the approval, coupled with cable work around my apt for 2+ weeks makes me think I'm under surveillance.   ;D
If it speeds up my approval I'm OK with it.   ;D

They still wanted $1 a round so I didn't get ammo, but he actually had some.

Midway has ball ammo at .82/round, bought two hundred rounds.  My FFL is holding some JHP for me when the gun’s delivered.  Could have saved a few bucks buying through my Cabela’s but they won’t hold me a gun.  I’d rather give the little guy and Gal the biz!  Shelly is a smoking hot FFL!  😂

The NICS check is usually pretty quick here in MA but we have another quarter to half an hour of BS to fill out for the state!  I’ve done about a hundred in my months at the gun counter.

Love my XL, despite having a bad sear to start with.   And, like the P320, it's a DIY gun.   Get the XL grip frame and make your own X model.   Or the upgraded FCG.  I want to get the regular grip and put it under the XL slide and barrel.  I'm betting that would be a great EDC combo.

The XL is an approved firearm here but I have no need for the extra size or weight.  This will supplement my LCR and when things return to nermal, be a tad cheaper to shoot.  As you’re aware, .38spcl can get pricey when you can find it!

The only .357 rounds I've found for my Contender are 6 charity rounds from the kid next door.
Granted, I haven't really been looking, but haven't seen any in the ads.

Just put money down on a ruger Blackhawk in .30 carbine. It’s a bit of an odd ball but I think it’s kind of cool

UPS delivered my Rosen gun leather yesterday and 200 rounds of 9mm ball today!

The holster was the same price as the one I bought 8 years ago from Mitch but the ammo has risen 300% with no appreciable difference in appearance, taste, smell or feel!

Oh, the gun was a Benjamin more than last year as well.

Underwood Ammo anyone?

I heard it runs like a typewriter.   ;D
I thought that brand died with WW II.
Remington must have owned the brand.
Of course with Remington Peters this is not their first venture into ammo.
Do you realize that the only "Heritage brand" that still exists in America is S&W.
Ownership has changed, but they have never closed, moved, or sold off their assets like all the others.

I’m just looking for some ammo to break in the new gat.  I’ve used Remington GS and UMC extensively with no issues.  It’s just the cost is crazy...

I bought 3 boxes (60) Underwood 90 gr Extreme Defender to try...$1.07/cartridge free shipping.  I’ll let ya know how it feeds.

Title: Re: Acquisitions!

Cabela’s and Bass Pro prices are high, Herters is 18 bucks a fifty (was 9 bucks in March) when you can find it but Midway is nuts.

$.70/cartridge for WWB or Federal is a 400% increase!  It’s supply and demand, I know...

$18/ 50 ? ?
What caliber ?
Title: Re: Acquisitions!
Post by: Timothy on May 28, 2021, 09:45:40 PM
9mm Luger when they have it..
Title: Re: Acquisitions!
Post by: les snyder on May 28, 2021, 09:50:24 PM
no new blasters, but have been pimping out the Ruger 22/45 MKIV for Steel Challenge... Striplin TandemKross forward thumb rest and large safety... just added a Volquartsen trigger/hammer/sear... came out very nice trigger pull.... added a Bore Buddy heavy duty firing pin for the CMMG conversion unit on the SBR....

again, if you are looking for .22 ammo at about $0.10/round... CCI and Federal have available ammo on their web page a couple of time a week.... best to look as early in the morning as possible... Federal has free shipping on $149 and CCI on $100 orders... occasionally they limit purchase amounts so you can't make the free shipping... I just got 2400 Federal (took about 10 days)

Have you shot any of it ?
Is it decent ?
Herter's used to carry a lot of trapping stuff and Hudson Bay Company stuff.
But that was 40 -50 years ago, I forgot they existed.   ;D

I have not shot any but everyone I work with says it’s fine but dirty.  Much like WWB!  Cabela’s owns them now.

I sold thousands of rounds to a ton of repeat buyers.  All calibers...

Once it shows up, it’s about a half an hour…NICS and state paperwork.

Same day is better than a lot of places.

In spite of what most think of MA firearms laws, it’s pretty damn easy to buy one.  I sold five handguns to one guy before the shutdown in about two hours.  Just paperwork that nobody will ever look at….

First shots, P365 mixed ammo…

About 50 rounds off hand, top target left handed no support hand…

Full disclosure, the five in the 10 ring top target ain’t mine!

Really ?

It's a Ruger,
It's got Colt style grips.
Pretty much Glock perfection in a single action.    ;D

Guys my Blackhawk in .30 carbine is a little monster. The recoil is about .357 or maybe a bit less, and it’s louder than expected. I was getting everyone’s attention at the indoor range. It took a couple of clicks up and 3 to the left and she was spot on. At 25 yards I kept it all in the 10 and 9 ring on a human silhouette target. Can’t wait to stretch her out to 50 or more yards. Trigger is fine but I'm going to do some polishing. Just needs to smoothening out. I’m very happy with my purchase.

I know Lee makes does for it and I do remember seeing load data in the Hornaday books. Midway does carry Lee but so do a lot of others.

So, my acquisition is paid for with the sell off of my Ruger LCR with a few holsters and ammo I wasn’t using.

New holster and ammo at ungodly prices was my only expense!

Cool, Timothy.   I sold off my Shield to buy my XL.  I did put the standard grip on it after I got back from Sig EDC and I love it for IWB.  The 10rd grip hardly prints at all and yet I've got the full 3.8" barrel/slide.

Yes, I’m kinda regretting not going that direction….  Too late!

Took a few days and a belt adjustment to get used to the weight differential from the LCR.  At least it’s not dragging me drawers down like the P6 or the 1911!

It eats everything I feed it!  Wish the trigger was better but my LCR trigger spoiled my booger hook…. Been on me or within reach since break in!

Note;  the trigger reset is fine but that first DA pull pretty much blows.

My Blackhawk is a bowling pin slayer and brick shattering little monster. I haven’t had this much fun with a wheel gun in years. I’ve taken shots out to 100 yards with 80% success rate. Shave cream cans and Shasta bottles explode violently with boring regularity😂

Well, you can't have everything I suppose?  Have you looked to see if there is a "dremel tool" fix for it?

not really a new acquisition but rather new application...new glasses after cataract surgery... WOW being able to see is a really cool phenomenon... local Steel Challenge club puts on a practice match every Friday... $2 entry to cover a little paint...you can run each of 3 stages twice...I picked up a Glock G44 (.22lr) a couple of years ago, but shot it mainly at the indoor range where I could not draw from a holster...picked up a couple of 18 round ProMags (PIA to retract the follower to load, but I fooled it and drilled a 5/16 hole through it and slip a punch through to retract the follower)... stuck it in a Blade Tec kydex holster and shot the SC format from a holster with low ready draw...

wanted to give me an option for a rimfire rifle irons division, but didn't have a .22 with a front sight.. I have a back up CMMG dedicated 16" upper AR... but my new vision did not like to focus on a flip up front sight on the hand guard rail... wanted a little more distance... the CMMG barrel does not have a front sight tower, but I had a spare laying in the parts bin... my cousin has a good small milling machine, so we tapped the existing hole, and drilled and tapped the bayonet lug for 8/32 hex set screw ... indexed the front sight to the center of the receiver and stuck on a carry handle rear sight... gun is much heavier than the plastic SW 15-22s but it is what I am used to ... shot well

Isn't the cataract surgery amazing?   I've been severely near-sighted my whole life now it's just amazing.

I just sold off the 10/22 with iron sights.   If I ever want to Steel Challenge or Rimfire Challenge with irons again I'll have to find something to go on my 10/22 with a Tac-Sol barrel.  Maybe a clamp on.  But I had so much fun with red-dot this month.  And scored really good scores I'll probably never do .22 irons sights again anyway.

Okay, I traded in my extra 22/45 and 10/22 and purchased Rex G7 458 silencer.  Will need to get adapter for 1/2 x 28 so I can use it across the board.  The main purpose is for the .458 Socom for hunting.  Secondary will be the .22lr's.   Finishing up the paper work today and should do the fingerprints tuesday.  Now we wait.  Good thing is I can "visit" my silencer at the range.
