I'm getting a leather sheath for an axe head. What should I treat the leather with. Will the recommended treatment keep the leather soft and supple? Will it help to provide any protection to the steel axe head?
Thank you for the help.

Neatsfoot Oil.

Or Mink Oil...
Which I think is about the same thing as Neats.

Similar! Mink oil is rendered mink fat and neats foot is cattle shins rendered of its fat. Both I've used and both are great!

I use mink oil on almost all my leather goods except holsters.
As a side note, many reloaders also use mink oil for case lube.

I'm a lexol user. The stuff is awesome for keeping your leather fed.
