My only problem is I don't know which one to strap on today(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XeBA3qWgX-s/TZFvoH80OMI/AAAAAAAAAww/l8fGhmztSlE/s1600/1911%2B001.jpg)

I'll make sure that I carry my 1911 today.  Oh, wait, I do that every day.

Happy anniversary to an outstanding platform.

Happy 100th birthday 1911.
Of course the basic design was around for a few years before the Army adopted it, so it is only the anniversary of the "designation".  ;D

Although I'm on the other side of that chalk line and don't own one, I can't deny the legacy of the 1911.

Maybe I'll buy one in a few years; they aren't going anywhere for a while.

I have been a daily carrier for more years than I care to think about.   I have done so with no regrets, doubts, or lack of confidence that that hunk of metal would do what it was designed for.

Can't ask for more than that. 8)

Here's a version suitable for sharing with your non-gun friends that explains JMB.  I posted it on Facebook and others have "shared" it as well.  Make sure you explain today is the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the M1911 pistol.

The report of the evaluation committee (taken from "The .45 Automatic, An American Rifleman Reprint," published by the National Rifle Association of America) released on the 20th of March 1911 stated:

"Of the two pistols, the board was of the opinion
that the Colt is superior, because it is more
reliable, more enduring, more easily disassembled
when there are broken parts to be replaced, and
    more accurate."

On March 29th, 1911, the Browning-designed, Colt-produced .45 Automatic pistol, was selected as the official sidearm of the Armed Forces of U.S.A., and named Model 1911.
