I'm starting to rethink the fact that I dont carry any extra mags with my CCW. About the only thing that is really stopping me is that I dont have a mag holster, or any other way to carry a spare except to just shove it in my pocket (which I am not too keen on). I know it would be damn near impossible to do so during the summer months, but now that it is winter, I really dont have any excuse. You guys got any ideas on cheap inexpensive mag pouches or other methods of carrying a backup mag.
* I sure do wish I could find a way to carry my 33 rounder with me ;D

I didn't vote, because it varies. With the J frame I carry one reload (5 rounds), but with a semi-auto I usually carry two extra mags.

I voted 2, But it all depends on what I'm carrying, with my J-Frame I have 2 speed loaders and a 2x2x2 pouch on my belt(Tactical Reload) with a self loader(1911 or Hi-Power) I carry 2 spare Mags on my belt.
Ericire, Don't go the cheap route, You will be better served with a quality mag or speedloader/speed strip pouch than a cheap one. It will last longer, stay put and not dump your spare ammo on the ground when you might need it the most.

Not cheap, but cost effective is what I am looking for.
I use an Uncle Mike's paddle holster or an Uncle Mike's IWB holser. Both are very inexpensive and have served me very well.

I didn't vote because I don't carry concealed. When I open carry while hunting I usually carry two spare mags. I thought that I would probably do the same whenever I get around to getting my CPL.

It's times like this that I wish I carried my 635 S&W. Can you imagine with me how badly I want to say I carry extra CLIPS ?

i always carry 2 spare mags when i cc... all mags are filled to capacity and the pistol always has one in the chamber

For my 1911 I carry one spare Wilson ETM with 8 Cor-Bon 45 ACP+P 230 gr. For my revolvers I carry either a 5 round or 6 round HKS speedloader with Speer Gold Dot 38+P short barrel 135 gr.

I usually carry a spare magazine for the Carry 9 or, on walks with Alf the Wonder Beagle, four extra rounds for the Bond Derringer (2 buckshot; 2 .45 Colt SilverTips).
Given the current state of the economy and the opportunity for social unrest to boil up very quickly, I tend to carry a little more horsepower when I'm in big cities or on the road. Last road trip I included an AR to keep me feeling all warm and fuzzy.

So here is a twist on this topic. Do you consider your car as part of your CCW? When you drive down to McDonalds you are in the car, out of the car, around the car. In other words do you carry extra ammo/guns in the car? How much/many?

Carry 2 extra magazines for the glock 21 in the truck.

My state legislature assures me that the streets of Massachusetts are perfectly safe!
For that reason, I don't generally carry an extra mag unless I'm in the woods.
I do however, carry extra D-cell batteries for my LIGHT SABER! You just never know...

RE: Car...depends.
Locally, the gun will be on my hip, in my pants pocket or in a SIG Concealed Carry Jacket pocket in the winter, along with extra ammo, so same same.
If I'm on the road, I typically have two guns...one in a crossdraw/driving holster and the "car gun" in a SafePacker. The car gun will be a little beefier or have lots more ammo, depending on my mood. Lately I've been traveling with the Carry 9 in a Blocker crossdraw and/or the jacket holster, an extra magazine for the Para in my pocket and a heavier revolver in the car. The revolver is usually a 3-inch .44 Magnum loaded with ammo that would penetrate a train locomotive end-to-end, my thinking being that while I trust my 9mm CorBon for antipersonnel situations, I'd like some back-up in the car that will seriously penetrate. I carry an extra speedloader of the penetrators and a second speedloader of Black Hills 240-gr JHP. If I get down to the 240-grainers, I'm in deep dookey...

As for daily CCW and spare mags, I carry a Glock 27 in .40 around 75% of the time (1911 commander the other 25%). I carry 9 in the stack and one in the pipe in my Serpa. I carry two 10 rounders (grip extensions allow 1 extra round) on my person as spare reloads. In my center console of my truck, I also have two more spare 10 round (G22 mags) and a box of spare ammo. Thinking about swapping those two in the truck out for 15 rounders.
When carrying my Commander, I carry two spare Wilson 8 rounders with Cor-Bon 185 JHP +P, to supplement the 8+1 in the gun.

I know I should, but I rarely do carry an extra speed loader/mag. Or a knife. Or a flashlight. Or a cell phone... I'm retired and I do NOT miss the Bat Belt!
Most likely, one way or another, it's gonna be over for me or them before either of us gets past 6 - 8 rounds. I'm always looking to see trouble before trouble sees me.
I'm interested in self defense while I get the heck outta Dodge, not charging up San Juan Hill mall to save the day.
Maybe for the New Year I'll resolve to carry a reload, and that other stuff, all the time... would really suck to be floating up and away looking down at my body and thinking "really shoulda had that..."

Joking aside, I did find some companies that sold packs you could strap across the chest for biking/jogging, and there was one bag with a funny name that escapes me at the moment. They advertised 'conceal in plain sight'. something like that.

That's one bag. Let's see who's google fu can find the bag that you can suspend on your lower back or lower chest. It had a crisscross strap system, as well as a regular strap.
My powers are weak today...

I prefer to open carry, but I carry the same amount anywhere. I only carry one extra mag. My Taurus 24/7 OSS has a 15+1 capacity, and they way I see it, if I can't hit my target in 31 rounds I need to set it down and never pick it up again. Plus mine is a .40cal and if I can't kill it with 31 rounds...well folks....I'm screwed to start with.

now see I find a small pocket knife to be irreplacable. Hell if all you use it for is cleaning your finger nails its worth hacing around. Something in the 2.5" range is more then enough. It also does not have to be expensive to be good. There is not a day goes buy I don't use mine.

I still carry the same SAK that I bought back in '81. It's been sent back for repairs at least four times and they give it back basically brand new every time. It's been through every major airport in the country, 32 Nuclear Power stations and four DoD/DoE Nuclear sites along the way...

Have a SAK I bought in Germany in 1978, and a Spyderco Delica I bought in Sin City in 1987. Those I have no problem carrying almost all the time...

For my CCW gun ,I carry a 2" Taurus 357 mag snub with 2 HKS speedloaders loaded with 125 JHP +P 38 Spec. either UMC or 125 JHP 38+P Winchester Personal Protection.

My original Leatherman goes with me every waking hour of the day, as well as my Gerber E-Z open pocket clip knife. After 20 years, I finally broke the Phillips screwdriver on the Leatherman the other day. I've had the Gerber for a dozen years and part of the handle got broken in my bike wreck (but not enough to replace it) and I had to bend the pocket clip back in place. I consider them both valuable assets to my daily gear. I have a lot of knives, but always depend on the same old one.

I usually 90 % of the time do not care a spare mag but when I do it because I do not have quick access to my vehicle where I care multiple types of ammo and extra mags. I know it putts at risk but I already carry a : knife, flash light , key, phone, solid aluminum pen in pant pocked . while carrying compact stouger cougar in 40 S&W in the small of my back.

I carry a CW40 and at least 1 reload. A Kershaw folder (gotta clean my fingernails!), flashlight (seem to always be in a dark spot of some kind!) and a multi-tool.
So far I use everything but the pistol many times a day. ;D
If I'm lucky I will never NEED to use the pistol! :P

I will normally carry two magazines. One in the weapon and one in my pocket.
If I am wandering around in the woods I may carry 30 to 45 rounds total if packing my 9 mm or 357sig. Less if I have my 45 acp.
