An idea from the other thread, post a pic of your every day carry knife.
Dont matter if its your Grand Pappy's pearl handled pen knife or the latest SOG tactical post a pic and tell us a little about it, for eg Brand, model, particular significance to you (inherited, saved for a year for it, skun your first squirrel etc), price paid (if you want), why you carry.
OK I have uploaded pic of my everyday carry, it goes wth me everywhere except to the airport - thats a NO NO LOL
Mine is a Boker Jim Wagner Reality Based Blade in a drop point style. You can get other more tactical types however this suits my needs just fine. I carry this although I know its not exactly legal, I carry it because its practical too, ie I can open it one handed with a minimal of fuss, perfect when you have your hands full, ie fishing and besides its nifty and easy to use. The whole hype about being dangerous is one perpertrated by the same nuts that carry on about firearms. In reality most stabbings occur by some lowlife who uses a stolen steak knife from a discount store. (rant over)
It features:
• Action: Push Button Automatic Conversion w/Safety
• Blade Material: AUS8A Stainless Steel
• Blade Style: Drop Point
• Blade Finish: Black Coated
• Handle Material: Machined Aluminum
• Locking Mechanism: Plunge Lock
• Carry Method: Black Removeable Reversible
Pocket Clip
• Includes Interchangeable Glass Breaker Tip
and False Writing Pen
• Complete with Lanyard Hole
Measurements:
• Blade Length: 3.25"
• Handle Length: 7.5"
• Overall Open Length: 7.75"
• Weight 3.6oz.
I have other autos but this is my favourite, it fits my hand great. Its light and seems very good quality despite it being presumably assembled in taiwan or china? It doesnt say where. The knife itself was given to me from a good internet friend in Oz. These type of knives are totally illegal in oz unless you have a collectors permit and even so you are not allowed to carry them, hell you cant carry a pocket knife with out a genuine reason. Guess what i reckon about that ;D
-
I have a "Stone Jack" auto with a 2.5 inch blade.

Right now I carry a Spyderco Endura Wave (http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=226 (http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=226)). It is a little large as a tool but I'm sure I'll think it a little small if I need to use it as a weapon. As an added bonus, the Emerson opening feature comes in handy when you forget a bottle opener. ;D
-
I feel kinda responsible for this thread so here are my entries...... ;D
I carried this SpyderCo GIN-1 for more than 15 years and put it into a semi-retired stage a couple of years ago.
The picture really doesn't do it justice as there is a lot of genuine user wear on it.
Ask me how the serrations on the blade got all messed up..?
A buddy gave me this Smith & Wesson CK-70 ExtremeOps...which is now my daily carry knife.
I also have an Old Timer I carry occasionally when the bigger combat folder knife isn't an acceptable option. She's rough and Old..but holds a good edge...the sharper pointed main blade is my Splinter picking blade.

Meyerco Tactical Folder Part Serr. 4 1/2" closed linerlock. 440 stainless bead blast finish partially serrated blade with thumb slot. OD green G-10 handles with reversible stainless pocket clip.
reasonably priced and I have carried it for many years without any problems.
-
Kerwsaw saclion or leek. depending on the day.
1 hand operation= great
-
I don't have pics, but I carry either a cheap imitation gerber plastic handled 1 3/4" pocket knife or a Spyderco Delica half serated. You all know what they look like. The virtue of the faux-Gerber is that its small and the handle has holes in it. This makes it easy to wash out salt, sand and crud as its my primary fishing knife. The Delica I got for about $30 on ebay. I love that knife. I cannot say enough good about it. Its big enough to be useful as a utility knife whether its for camp chores, taking down a box or last ditch SD. At 2 7/8" its also legal pretty much anywhere sane.

Spyderco P'Kal or Emerson Kerambit.
-
I have a Smith & Wesson Kerambit I carry in my right pocket and a 5.11 Tarani Tanto that I carry in my left pocket. For a while I carried a little Smith & Wesson tanto, and I still love that knife becuase it's some compaact and useful.
-
Kershaw Ken Onion Scallion with spring assist thumb opening. They don't make them anymore in that model. Had it about five years I'd guess. A bit small, might look into the Spyderco...
Had a problem, called Kershaw and a nice young lady had the parts in the mail that day and two days later, I had the parts and a special screw driver to disassemble and reassemble the knife and correct the issue. Lifetime Guarantee like a Zippo lighter or a Swiss Army knife. I also have several SA Knives around here somewhere, one I've had for twenty years or so. I also have an old Barlow from about 1963 that my dad gave me when I was about 8 or 9.......
No pics....too lazy today, more snow to shovel...
-
I carry a cheap two-bladed jackknife.
-
Nothing fancy.
Been carrying a Gerber E-Z-Out 1/2 serrated knife for about 15 years....... Holds a darn good edge and opens easy............. Cracked the edge of the handle in a bike wreck, but it's only a cosmetic issue.
I also carry a Cold Steel neck/belt knife........... Scary sharp, holds a good edge, and is easy to sharpen when it does need it.
I got a new Leatherman Skele-tool to replace the 25 year-old one I had been carrying.....(I know many have political issues with the Leatherman company, but this was a Christmas gift from my son, so I use it). It is a good tool, so far.
Like I said, nothing fancy.....but they work.
-
I carry the Benchmade Pika (clippoint), which was a black label, then they moved it to red and now it's an H&K branded.
The Picture is Copyright© Benchmade® Knife Co., Inc.
Which means they're trying to copyright "copyright"?
-
I'm a collector, so I change knives almost daily.
If I want to be fancy, I carry a Draper Cowgirl
(http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/2725/cow2ir6.jpg)
I LOVE the Benchmade 940
(http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/1143/940chax3rz5.jpg)

You always come through with the blades, Overload......that top knife is a fine looking thing.
-
tim check out the leek.... its like the big brother of the scallion.
-
tim check out the leek.... its like the big brother of the scallion.
Will do, thanks...
They really hold an edge very well and the service is second to none..
-
I carry a SOG Flash 2. Great knife
-
I'd be lost without my Victorinox Cyber 34.
I use the screw driver bits and tweezers more then the blades.
Looks like this one except mine is blue.
-
I carry a couple different but my new favorite is the Blackhawk Mark 1 E http://www.blackhawk.com/product/CQD-Mark-1-Type-E,1246,37.htm
I do throw in a Buck knife sometimes and depending on what I am doing is I put a S&W bootknife on
-
I carry too much. I've carried a Gerber E-Z Out like Peg's for many years, and it has served me well. I thought about retiring it last fall and bought a plain edged Spyderco Endura. I really like it, but it was a little bigger than I expected. I decided to carry it as my "just in case" knife and still carry my Gerber for the dirty work. I've also had a Kershaw chive for several years that I carried when I needed something smaller; now, it rides in my left pocket and gets used for "civilized" tasks. I also have a Leatherman micra that was given to me a few years ago. Along with other pocket items, my pockets are full. When finances allow, I plan to get a Delica and actually retire the Gerber.

Haunt Ebay. You can find sundry benchmade and Sydercos for around $50ish if you're patient.

Your thinking of the one I had at Wodonga?
Nah thats another beastie LOL still an auto and looks similar.
That was one of these:
The knife is 4 1/4 inches long, 1 3/8 inches wide and 5/8 inch thick ( 13/16" including pocket clip) closed. It has a 3 1/4" x 1" blade of AUS8 stainless steel, flat ground, with smooth gray bead blasted finish.

Took TABs suggestion and picked up another blade.
Kershaw, Ken Onion Leek with a composite blade. Razor sharp..much better feel and a pretty quick handling knife. Considerably cheaper than the $110 price too. Only 52 bucks...
-
Sweet looking blade Timothy!
I been carrying a Kershaw halfton folder of late, its a cheap no frills knife no complaints really although it is a little small in the hands but it does what ever job I need.

This, or my Scallion are my daily pocket knives. They don't scare the shit out of people I work with because they're not evil looking. I'm looking at the Blur for my next buy for more adventurous days.
I always have a Gerber multi-tool nearby as well. I have two, one in the car and another in my tool bag or tackle box depending on what I'm up to. Heck, one is nearly twenty years old now. It's gotten back quite a few expensive fishing lures from the toothy grins of our northern pike and pickerel.
-
hallelujah so I am not the only one that carry's a knife in the car! I usually carry two, one in the back in with my general carry items, tools, rope, sleeping bag etc and one down sitting in the drivers door panel next to my wolf eyes torch (one has to be prepared)
That knife is one of these:
It has a seatbelt cutting tool and a glass breaker, its a just in case knife. The only thing I really dont like about it apart from the bloke I brought it off is the pin holding the blade it requires a special tool if ever the time comes to tighten it. Apart from that it is suitable for the purpose designed.
-
Personally I hate serrated, or half serrated blades. They seem to always snag and rip things I want to slice cleanly.

Can you post the specs on that one sledge? As a guy living in the land of roadside canals and having electric windows, the seat belt cutter and window breaker make this a must look at item.
Thanks.

GZ Defender:
Defender – This particular model was especially designed for use by the Russian Special Ops. Police and parramilitary personnel. The knife’s low profile yet very heavy-duty design is aimed at military personnel who require a tough multipurpose tool, which is light and practical. The Defender also features a handy nylon cutting blade on the back of the handle which is a must-have tool for police, military, rescue personnel and others who are involved in motor sports. The glass breaker on the pommel of the knife is just as handy tool that can save lives in emergency situations.
The knife features liner lock system, which is considered one of the best solutions for fixing the edge in place. The linear lock keeps the blade in lock position even during very hard use.The blade features easy-open pins on both sides of the blade, making the knife universal for both left and right hand users.
Steel used in GZ knives is very similar in its chemical structure to the Kizlyar Z60 high carbon rust resistant steel. The GZ blades contain a minimum of 0.6% carbon and are heat treated and Rockwell tested to around 57HRC. Meaning that the blades will hold a good edge under stress, but most important of all they can be maintained and resharpened with ease and quickly. The blades are sharpened at an bevel angle of 35 degrees, which is the best working angle for medium to heavy duty work and is still relatively easy to touch up and maintain.

Thans Haz! That's a much nicer price than the $85 Sledge's cost. Given that I'm only interested in the seat belt cutter and glass breaker bits I don't care much about blade quality. I know that a screw driver will break a window just fine, but if I need to cut myself free of a belt in a panic situation (like when I'm injured in a car rapidly filling with water say) I'd as soon not get slash happy around my belly with a sharp knife. It might attract the gators. ;)

Thanks to you both. I've got my Spyderco delica for steel (generally on my body if I'm wering pants), the rest is just an E-kit. I think I'll go with with Haz's selection as having an extra knife in the truck, in case I forgot my pants, is always a good thing. ;D

The nice thing about these center punches is that you do not need to swing or hit anything. Just put the point against the glass and press.

I have been carrying the BenchMade Mini-Griptilian for about a year now, the thing is awesome. The BenchMade Axis lock is 100% better than any liner lock that I have ever used. I also don't think that I would ever go back to a thumb stud after using the thumb hole design.

-
Back on the subject of EDC knives, I bought myself a Christmas present this year that didn't go bang. I really like this thing. It comes out of my pocket open and ready to roll. On the rare occasion that I pull it out closed, I, too, am developing an affinity for the thumb hole. ;)
http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=226 (http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=226)
P.S. And in a pinch, it does a decent job of opening beer bottles.

and if you ever need to center punch something you know where to find it...

never seen the composite blade... you will have to let me know how it holds an edge.
Coming up on two months now, carried and used every day for any number of things. Holds the best edge of anything I've ever owned to date and that's about 45 years of carrying some kind of pocket knife!
Just ordered a Kershaw Blur about an hour ago. Retail is about 100 bucks, Amazon had one listed for 35 bucks with no freight so I bought it...
Range report to follow...

I have carried a Benchmade Griptillian (the big one, with serrations and the hole in the blade) for about 2 years now but I sure do miss the old Spyderco it replaced due to the clip breaking off, it was slimmer, sharper and easier to open. I was talked into the Griptillian by a friend who got a deal on them somewhere for $60 ea. Shame the good (big) Spyderco's are so pricey.

I don't know what Spyderco you had (have?) but you should be able to buy a replacement clip for it. I carry an Endura and a Delica daily. I broke the clip on my Endura shortly after I bought it (talk about ill). I was getting my toolbag out of my truck and it swung down by my leg and caught the clip just in the right position to break it. I was able to order a clip for just a couple dollars.

Their CS is great. They'll even sharpen it for you for $5. Call them. I doubt you'll be out 20 bucks, sharpening included.

It was about 20 years old I guess and the clip was moulded out of the same material as the black plastic grip panels - might be worth sending it to them anyway to see if they can help, thanks guys MP

All are made by Matt Bailey. The green handled one glows in the dark.
Thanks for looking.

I love my benchmade griptilian.
-
Pretty Knives!
-
Nice looking knives, but how do you sit down with them in your pocket?
Richard
-
Sitting with them really isn't a problem. The clip goes over the outside edge of your pocket and the knives
ride comfortably without poking you. The san mai knife is a little large but the other two have blades
around 4 inches. If you are going to do a lot of bending over I guess you would find them a little uncomfortable,
but over all I just about forget they are even there. Take care.

I carry a Cold Steel Tanto Voyager. It is a big knife (people invariably make some comment about it when I pull it out), but it is very light and easy to carry in my front pocket with the clip. I like it a lot. I am seriously considering getting a Cold Steel Spartan.

Then what the hell good is it? A beautiful tool is still a tool, otherwise it might as well be made out of pot metal and spray paint. I feel pretty strongly that you honor the maker when you actually take the thing out and use it, whether it be a knife, or a shotgun or a beautiful wooden canoe.

Emerson CQC-7V Best Birthday present Ever!!! Finally my obscene coveting paid off. The Japanese talk of blades having souls I never really grasped that till I held this knife. It doesn't so much cut instead that which stands before it parts in its way.
