Title: Making Mike's life hard!
Post by: Ulmus on January 03, 2009, 08:45:23 PM
Will all due appologies to Mr. Bane, Marshal, and Marshalette.

The 2009 Shot Show is coming up and I have to ask.

What would you like to see our intrepid trio cover at the show?  A specific maker?  A specific gun or accessory?

I'd like to see what Kel Tec is doing with the RFB bullpup rifle they've been working on.

What about you?

(I know guys...  Can Opened.  Worms everywhere.  Sorry.)

Make your suggestions, but believe me the 3 M's are already way ahead of us, and keeping things they already know, close to the vest, I don't know how it is now, but the times I've been to SHOT, the word was if you saw everything, you could only spend 70 seconds per booth, so guys like me skipped all the tree stands, most of the clothing, ATV's, etc... so I could spend time with something or someone I really wanted to know about. People like Uncle Jeff and his gracious wife, Massad Ayoob, Bill Jordan, Evan Marshall, Jim Clark Sr, Col. Charles Askins,  I'm much more glad I could get 5 minutes of their time, than spending mine at the tree climbing deer stands, no offense to the stand makers.  What I'm trying to say is let the 3 M's do what they have in mind, and we will be happy with the results. I have no doubt the Keltec booth is one of them ;D Remember the Magpul video from last year with the foldaway glock carbine/sub gun, that will never be made.  8) They already have info we don't have about the new cool stuff, and a lot of what gets filmed may not be when SHOT is open. ;)

JF, as Roy Buchanan use to say, " your not broke, but your severely bent "  ;) and I guess the others were his younger wives? Tread lightly on Uncle Jeff.

I was extremely lucky that I went to the Peterson Publishing booth several times over the 4 days of the show and looking for the Col. and the last time, the man at the booth said wait a minute and went into the room behind him, came back out and said, yes Jeff Cooper is here and will speak with you, friend and I went into said room and got 30 minutes with Uncle Jeff and Mother Jan, highlight of my and my friends life, He signed a 1964 guns and ammo that I had with that famous picture of him coming to a crouch after jumping down from a trail, with the 1911 at an FBI crouch and him in his dress trousers and military blouse. Ah, wonderful, somewhere in my abode is that magazine in a plastic ziplock bag, I do really need to find it. If you people are REAL NICE,  I'll take a picture of it and post it.

Glad I wasn't the only one that read it that way.

BTW, it looks like my 12-steps with Grammarians Anonymous is working, as I am working to overcome the tendency to correct people's writings, spelling and grammar. Based on this post, I may have to start over at step 1.  >:(

My grammar used to love me, but she died...a chicken ain't a chicken 'til it's lickin' good fried...eggs on the sunny side...my grammer used to love me but she died...apologies to Roger Miller, but he died...

I've decided that at this year's SHOT SHOW I'm focusing exclusively on duck calls. I look forward to posting MP3s on various calls until we're all driven QWACKERS!

I'd like to see my Para, too...the whole project got postponed by the Para move to Charlotte, N.C. Sigh...I hate it when reality impinges on a perfectly good plan. The Blogger Para 9mm, which I helped spec with Para's Kerby Smith, is pretty close to the sketched out commemorative version.

The best part of SHOT is having a chance to meet and talk to people, some old friends I only see once a year, some people I've always wanted to have a conversation with.

If some how I get to go, I'll bring some nice Cabot cheese with me.

After all, you can't have quackers without cheese!

Michael,
Please use your incredible charm, sophistication, and suave to get Crimson Trace to make laser grips for Para Carry 9 and the Tac 4.  ;D

I know you may have to do this in between you video shoots showing the nation how pleased you are with Cannon Safes!  ;)

I asked CT to send me a set of their Compacts to see whether they'll fit...it's a crap shoot, but they are doing more stuff with Para, and, yes, I will lobby hard!

I'm done with the Cannon stuff...tomorrow I'll post Cannon's executive response ("We lived up to the letter of our warranty," which they did, to be sure) and the final solution...I disassembled the lock (voiding whatever warranty there was), removed the circuit board and rewired the circuit board's power set-up, relieving the stress points, blah blah. Then I put it all back together and opened the damned safe. Now it works fine. Next week, I'll find a locksmith who can take me back in time to a boring mechanical lock. I'm trying to decide whether I should go with 2 smaller safes — not Cannons — instead of another big safe...eggs, baskets, etc.

Watching MB take his Cannon safe to the machinegun shoot and blasting H..L out of it might be fun.

Richard

PS:  He can even send them a copy with the pieces.

Ft. Indiantown Gap has an annual Army artillery shoot off. Can they hit a safe at 5 miles ?

Just thought of something else...I would like one of the M's to find out from SA when they are going to come out with the XDM compact and sub-compact models.

Thanks,

Richard

PS:  Wish I could be there to ask them myself!

Keep the suggestions coming. I am going to have a bit of time ( in between stuff maybe) and I'll do my best to have all of this on notes and do some running to see if I can get the scoop with some pictures.

Can't promise anything, but I'll do my best.  :-*

And Haz..................*clearing my throat* Lisa and I together........aauuhhhhh......no way you could handle that! ;)
Curries might be able to help you... but hard to keep either of us under control too long.. LOL

Oh yeah and anything that really screams "mall ninja"  That stuff cracks me up... you know stuff like clothing that has turnakits built in.

Does a revolver in 4.6 X 30, the little buzzer round for the H-K MP-7, count as "odd-ball?"

Okay you guys... what I am thinking of doing ( IF I have time and IF I can get the job done) is taking the list that you all are interested in.. getting a bit of information on these things.. snapping a couple pictures each time and hopefully maybe going back to the press room and putting up short blogs about them with the pictures.
Would that work?  :)

Would you settle for a Taurus? It's was at SHOT 2(?) years ago.

I just checked their website and they don't have it.

no.   the reason why I say that is I was working for a FFL when they introduced the 500, long story short I got to shoot/ play around with the protype and one of the engineers mentioned they were trying to get one to work with spring clips, but where not having  much luck do to the case being pushed back and binding the cylinder.   I still want one.

I'm getting everything all lined out & ready for tomorrow.
Anymore stuff you want me to check out..better get it said, so I can put it on my list. ..  ;)

Got a lot on my plate for the next 4 days, ( I am officially hired to be Marshal's assistant..plus do video and article work ) but I will do my best in between to check it out and get it up here for you.

The assistant part??  Ahhh....... Today... after he told me some more things that he needed done that I needed to add to my already growing list.. that "if I had time" could I make some coffee..........."

I took a long even breath and told him gently ( but firmly) that if he added one more thing for me to do within the next 10 minutes..I would not only MAKE him coffee... I would help him wear it..*and the sun wouldn't see where either*.. LOL

He got the message...  ;)  And the rest of our day was pleasant..  ;D

Damn. I'm good!  :D

Are there any guns out there made of carbon fiber besides the Carbon-15s from Bushmaster? I can't believe no one else is making them yet.

P.S. Keep your eyes peeled for GOOD gun safes.
