Last month it was the Sportsmens channel. Just found out this morning that Verizon dropped the Outdoor Channel! :'( Please Outdoor channel, make your stuff available over the Internet!
Well at least they can't take away the Podcasts.
-
I just started getting it? I didn't increase my cable service, which is why I thought it was weird. Is it going off the air completely, or just showing reruns? What's the whole scoop?

prolly wimping out in support of Cecil the lion:

On dish I get the Outdoor Channel, Sportsmans Channel, and Pursuit Channel all right next to each other. Kind of pricey but I get all the channels but none of the movie channels.

That's what I am thinking. I get 100's of channels with all kinds of crazy stuff. One is dedicated to cricket! That can't tell me more people watch that crap compared to the outdoor channel! Crazy thing is when I tuned in to it this morning they are telling me to go watch the History Channel or National Geographic.
I really only use Verizon because of the FIOS Internet and my only other alternative is Comcast.
-
Dish offers internet service along with it tv service. Don't know what the pricing is though.
-
Go with Comcast, they haven't caved to ignorant PC ass holes.

Verizon opted to keep Al Jazeera and drop OUTDOOR CHANNEL.
Think about that when you consider your mobile phone serviceā¦

Good point. I guess in the grand scheme of things, in their eyes Palmer shooting Cecil was far more horrific, than Muslims beheading Christians. Shows where society in general is headed in this country.
-
I've noticed that the news on Al Jazeera tends to be more accurate than MSNBC or CNN

Us old folks stick together! We have the same package as you, and it is nice to be able to find a full choice of hunting, fishing, shooting, ..., or old westerns on the Encore choices whenever I get time to sit down.
-
Have never watched Al Jazeera but it could be they are more accurate because their agenda is helped by being truthful

For me it's a case of literally not knowing what I'm missing. I have basic cable from Comcast and if I try to put it on the outdoor channel it tells me not authorized or something like that. I watch too much TV as it is so maybe it's a good thing I don't get it.

That's what mine always said......... Until the other day. Now I'm getting it, and then I read this thread that say's it's no more. Go figure.

one of the best biz choices I ever made was droping them for a different carrier. I currently have 7 phone( person, biz and my nonfporfit) lets just say I pay less for all 7 then I did for 3. its a joke.

What do you know...I been looking for a no frills cell phone provider for a few weeks now.
This afternoon, about 1 hour before you post, I signed up with Consumer Cellular.
No data plan, low monthly minutes. It will be off most of the time. Take it with me when I drive any distance in case of a break down and when I know I will need a phone where none will be available.

i have had metro pcs for years, no issues you can get a basic unlimited talk and text for $25 and unlimited 4g for $60 that's taxes and fees included. I had 7 lines with them so I get them at $5 less per line so it helps. the only thing that sucks is if you are in a area that has only att towers you can't get data, but that is extremely rare. in my travels to almost every state I have only found 2 places like that, both were not often traveled interstates.
-
The only thing I've found with Consumer Cellular is my data miraculously goes up, even when I don't use my phone. My wife uses hers more, (surf's on Google, etc.), and by the end of the month, both of our data is near the maximum. (The little bar goes from green to yellow, then finally to red when it's close to max.). I think it tries to get you to go over so they can sell you a bigger plan.
The only thing I'll use data for on the phone once and a while, is to remote start my new Jeep with a App. I put in from Chrysler. Even that uses very little. It a racket. I'm going to try leaving the phone off, turning it on just to use it to make a call, and see what happens. Probably the same thing.
-
billt,
Is it possible that they are combining yours and your wife's usage? As she maxes it takes from yours? I know that with my wife and myself, she is having issues with battery capacity and they talk about how much she uses it. Thing is that she hardly uses hers, but mine is constantly getting messages from the barns, and I use it to order and track feed. A local salesman determined that there is a battery issue and is pretty sure that when we call bumfuck egypt with questions they are seeing the account as a single device.

I left Verizon over four years ago....best move ever.

That is possible, seeing as they magically go up equally . But the thing is, neither of us really use it all that much. It just somehow keeps steadily climbing, (most rapidly during mid month), then it tapers off as it gets near the start of a new billing cycle at the end of the month. We stay away from high data usage websites like You Tube and such. But it still creeps up, regardless of how much we try to manage it. If it continues I'm going to call and complain.
I had something similar happen with a cheap, prepaid phone I bought several years ago just for emergencies. The minutes slowly kept disappearing even when I didn't use it. I finally got fed up and just tossed the thing. Now I'm getting the same crap from Consumer Cellular with our data usage. Other than that, it's not a bad deal. We pay $42.00 a month for 2 Smart Phones. (Motorola Moto G's), which we bought outright from Wal-Mart for $100.00 each. We get 500 MB of data usage each every month with the package we have. I have both phones paired to the "Hands Free" phone in our new Jeep, and they work well for that.

I never heard of it but think I'll get the cheapest phone they have. No smart phone, no data, just a phone I can use in emergencies. 20 minutes a month would be enough. It's supposed to be cheaper if you're a member of AARP but I don't want to join and support anti-gunners.
-
Tracfone, $10 phone, $100 for activation and 120 minutes of airtime, they double your minutes so if you buy 60 minute card you get 120 minutes, buy the cards anywhere that sells phone cards or on line, simple, no contract.
-
Check your apps. Many common ones are data hogs. The weather channel current weather app can eat a gig in a month as it updates every few mins. Same with stuff like location monitors (google)
-
The wife and I have T-Mobile. We buy 1000 minutes every year for $100 each. If we buy new ones before the old ones expire they are carried forward. Just bought new ones last week so now we both have over 2800 minutes each. We actully use about 100 a year. It seems like a waste but they a just for emergencys or immediate need w/o looking for a phone booth.(whats that)
i just bought them last week and wee both have aver 2800 minutes
-
geez I spend more time the average work day then some of you spend in a year lol
3-4 hours a day on average. I hate the damn things, but the way things are I do not have choice.

Getting back on track. I'm still getting the Outdoor Channel, and have changed nothing in my cable programming to receive it. I'm not understanding why I'm getting it? Occasionally they will allow basic subscribers to receive premium channels in order to get them to increase their service. That only lasts for a few days, usually a weekend. Never more than a week. I've been getting it now for at least 2 weeks, possibly longer. I just noticed it about 2 weeks ago.
The only thing I can think of, is by Verizon dropping it, perhaps whoever is broadcasting it now had added it to my Cox Cable programming package for some reason? I just hope it continues. Most of the channels I receive are crap. I've never had so many channels, with nothing to watch. The Outdoor Channel was a welcome addition.
-
When Dish does their promos for HBO, Starz, Showtime, etc. it is usually just a weekend. However, they have a rolling promotion where you get three or four channels from the higher packages for an entire month.

Yep.
I get an email each month telling what my "free" previews will be next month...they are usually channels I already have in our package anyway.

This really sucks big time. I left for Japan to train and keep my Judo strong, and I come back to this shit. It was only 2 months. >:( >:( >:(

Spent some time at the kodokan? If I ever make it to japan I will be spending some time there.
