Ok, our son had complicated hand/wrist surgery which worked out well. Part way thru the procedure the "Nerve Block" started to wear off so they did another. Only problem, this time it caused his lung to collapse. We got his pain meds and took him home but later that evening he ended up in Emergency and a stay in the hospital. Just found out he accidently disturbed the tube into his chest and caused the lung to collapse again which means a longer stay in the hospital. He's not liking this one bit...he's like me, a not so patient, patient. Prayers are needed for patients, healing and smooth physical therapy so that he can get back to a normal life (or close to it). He needs the use of both hands for his job as a Chef.
Thanks in advance,
Richard and Norma

The human body is really a delicate thing and easily disrupted. He is on our list that all will mend, and he will be able to resume his life.

Thanks all for the thoughts and prayers. Word has it Zteve (yes, the spelling is correct!) gets out of the hospital Tuesday. Don't know when he starts rehab. Hope he follows our advise and goes after the Dr. in so far as all his bills are paid if not more! He doesn't like the idea but we think he has a case. Will keep you all advised of any developments.
Thanks again,
Richard and Norma

Quality physical therapy is key.
Tell him to hang in there and good luck.

+1000......affordable is the problem here but there are good ones if you look hard enough! Don't settle for the insurance carriers suggestions unless you're forced into it.

The surgeon that operated might be able to make good recommendations for PT. Most don't want someone else screwing up what they fixed and know which PT's to use.......... again, insurance considerations withstanding.
-
prayers he will have a full recovery

Praying for Zteve. May he heal and be well.

Sorry for not posting an update sooner. Zteve didn't get out of the hospital until the Wed. after the operation. That was a bummer for him because he isn't a very patient patient! I advised him to have the hospital send any bills directly to the Dr. because they screwed up not him! I also think he should hire a Lawyer try to get a few $$$$$"s even though he would have to give the lawyer a cut...better than nuthing! He doesn't have health insurance and doesn't qualify for ours so he is in a bit of a bind as far as paying goes. For some reason he can't get WC either. He has been trying to get special funding help of some kind but doesn't know yet. He will be off work for a while yet. Not sure when rehab starts. He has church friends and family doing stuff and providing meals but he has no savings. We have been paying for meds some of which he is able to get at discount.
Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers. We want you all to know that prayers go out to our "Family and Friends on DRTV" every day from us!
God Bless,
Richard, Norma and Zteve
PS: Should add that his hand/wrist will never be normal but from what we understand it could be a lot worse!

Richard:
The prayers will continue. Thanks for the update.

Richard,
I know that it is a very minor part of the situation at this point, but how will the permanent change in his hand and wrist abilities affect his career as a chef?
Prayers Continue!

m58 that is a good question. Basically it's similar to the saying "Busier than a one armed paper hanger"! Part if not most of the problem involves not being able to grasp/hold things (pot/pan handles, and etc.) while using the good hand to cut, mix, serve or whatever...in other words stableize objects so as not to spill, drop, burn himself, make a mess. Being a chef/cook is a fast paced job during busy times and this would make it impossible for him to keep up. He also likes to wait tables...better money w/tips and again one handed is too slow and sometimes messy. Try this little test...pick up a dime with your thumb and index finger and then try with your index and middle finger or go about your daily life without using your thumb. This isn't all but I hope you get the idea.
While I'm at it I will also add this update. Zteve has a different cast (smaller) on and has started rehab. He will be in almost constant pain while the nerves try to regenerate. Meds help some. Progress is slow but there.
Thanks for asking and continued prayers.
