Title: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: alfsauve on November 24, 2010, 04:02:31 PM
Okay, rojawe gave us a heads up on these auctions.   I thought I'd just update everyone.

There are two this weekend.  Lindsay and Langham.  If you register with Proxibid you can bid on-line.   Little chance, but being a holiday you never know.   Appears to be a number of retail stores (probably with on-line stores) bidding, which means they won't go above cost since they plan to resell.

I've got bids on some S&W686 and 586's as well as a model 51.

Don't know if you can view these links without registering, but here are the catalog links

http://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=33176 (http://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=33176)

http://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=33790 (http://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=33790)

It's at least fun to dream I might get a 586 for $250.

maybe those of us that can pool together and bid for what we all want? maybe bid for something popular under on name, raffle later? if no takers, then the person that made the bid has a gun at cost to do with as they wish. any more ideas?

let's keep in touch so nobody bids on the same thing....

I don't know if we have time to pool on something, but I'm willing to steer clear of anything another DRTV member really wants.

There's nothing I really need, but several things I'll take if I can get them at cost.   I'm bidding under my usual screen name "alfsauve".  I'm bidding or watching theses items on Lindsay which is Sunday.

193 NcSTAR MARK III TACTICAL SCOPE 6X42 MIL-DOT
194 NcSTAR RED & GREEN DOT SITE SILVER FINISH.
196 NcSTAR TACTICAL 4 RETICLE SITE
197 NcSTAR TACTICAL 4 RETICLE SITE
230 CHIP McCORMICK 8 RD 45 ACP 1911 MAGS W/ BASE PLATE, BLUED, (NEW IN PKG).
254 BLACKHAWK TACTICAL SERPA HOLSTER FITS GLOCK 17/19/22/23/31/32, RIGHT HAND
53  SMITH & WESSON MOD. 686 357 MAG REV. SER# 21339 6" BRL,
55a SMITH & WESSON MOD. 66 357 MAG REV. SER# 4K18712 SS, 4" BRL
68   MILLETT RED DOT SCOPE SP-1 NIB 1" COMPACT, 3 MIL-DOT, SILVER FINISH

In Langham, I have bid yet, but am watching:

135 Smith And Wesson 586
202 Smith And Wesson 586
217 Smith And Wesson Model 51
234 Ruger MK I

As I said, if you got your heart set on any of these....go for it.

I wouldn't mind having the Hi-Point carbine that only had a $5 bid.

Oops,  Won a S&W 586 6".   I didn't think $475 would take it.

PROBLEM IS.  I've prebid the same on a second one.   :o

Wheww.   Somebody on-site got the second 586 for $490.

I don't need two.

Now I'm wondering how high to bid on the 657  .41 Mag.

Good thing the wife likes "bargains".   Today, I "won" (bought) an unfired SW 586 .357 6" barrel for $475 and a SW 624 .44spl 6-1/2" barrel for $490.

Another auction is on Sunday.   Wish me luck....................with the wife

The Lindsay Auction has started.   I may have overdone the pre-bid thing.   I could end up with several guns I really didn't intend to buy.  (life is rough)
Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions

Well, I got what I was after with today's auction from Lindsay.

2 of the NcStar red dot holographic sights.   $30ea   Normally $42 at Optics Planet.   One's going on my 45 degree mount on my AR and the other on the top of my Buckmark .22

THEN, I also got something unintended.  A S&W 66  .357 Stainless w/ 4" barrel.   $375.   Not a steal but a good bargain.  I really would have rather had the 686 6" but it went before I could raise my bid.  This was a pre-bid...maybe a little high, but now I have Smith's in 4",  6" and 8-3/8" barrels.   Do I really need them? (don't answer that)    Might sell/trade this one.  We'll see once I get my hands on it and inspect it.

ON THE OTHER HAND the 624 .44spl I bought Friday is turning out to be a really good deal.   It's built on the N frame, same as the 629 .44 mag.   Only made for 2 years in the mid '80s.  Should be a sweet shooter and a great companion to the 686.   It's definitely a keeper.   More to come once it gets here.

I was going to bid on that one but saw your handle and didn't want to bid against you. (I really didn't want to go higher than 375 anyway)

I ended up with an Ithaca 37 and a Blackhawk stock for a Rem 870. Overall not bad for $285 total.
Damn your eyes for showing me this auction site!! I already bought a gun from Cabela's on Friday!  ;)

I'm sorry that.   I pre-bid on all the 686's and 66's.   I just bid a bit too high on that one and too low on the others.   If I'd have known, before the auction started I would have brought my max down for you.

I'm really pumped about my 624 from Friday.

Hey, I didn't start this.  I just followed up on somebody else's post from a week or so ago.  I think this is it for me until all the Christmas bills are paid and the credit cards cool off a bit.

Now I just gotta find me some extra .44special brass.  Only got 100 or so.   Maybe there's an auction......................

No big deal. I've been kicking around the idea of a 4" stainless K or L frame for years. Fits in between the J stainless and my 2 N frames but I already have 2 K frames in blue. What to do, what to do....

Thanks for the heads up Rojawe! I was this close to bidding on an air rifle I didn't need and Alf's NC Star optic to go with it. I came to my senses and didn't, but if you get the heads up on more of these please post. Your alert was very much apprecciated (though maybe not by Alf's wife). ;D

WHEW - W - W - W - W.   You screwed up the link.

I think I've pushed my luck for the year.  No more auctions for a while.   She took the third gun really well.   As she says, my guns are better investment than her collectibles and worst case is she'll get her money back after I die. ( :-\   Not sure how to take that.  But heck, for the time being, I'll buy the gun, shoot it and then decide whether to keep or sell.    Worst case is I get to shoot it for a while, then even if I loose a few dollars, it was fun.

Some interesting stuff in the Irvine auction....thank God I don't need anything right now!

Waiting to see what the 7.62 Chi-Com pistol is going to go for with the docs from '69 to send it from Viet Nam to the states.
Another was the silver Nazi Iron Cross that weighed 55grams. I'm not into nazi stuff, but it's interesting....
Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: alfsauve on November 30, 2010, 05:19:05 PM
Saw one Chi-Com went for $750.   There were some good deals.   At one time, I thought I wanted a Dan Wesson, but don't anymore.

I see doing a "search" covers all catalogs, so if you know something specific you can find out if it's in an upcoming auction.  Right now "Wesson" pretty much covers it for me.

Sort of related to auctions and our Mosin threads.

At the Rush2Arms auction last night in Ohio  a Mosin sold for $170.....nothing special about it that was listed.  Add to that the auction fee and shipping and the buyer could have gotten 2 of them.

Another auction in GA.   Montrose, GA, in the middle of the state.

On-line bidding is out because of the 18% internet surcharge.

HOWEVER, the catalog is just fun to look at with over 850 firearms.   It's like browsing at a gun show but sitting in your easy chair.

Everything from tupperware to Merwin & Hulbert revolvers.  M1 receiver only!  Nagant revolvers.

I missed out on the Rock Island auction last weekend.  Wondering if anybody got in on the action.   I had written them to clarify the bidder fees and they shipped me a free catalog.   They also called last week as a reminder.

The next RIA auction is in May.  The catalog isn't complete, but from the pictures it looks pretty cool.

Here's two upcoming auctions.   I've got some bids in on one, but not serious, if you want to outbid me go for it.

HEWLETT'S 2-DAY MARCH AUCTION   a lot of good stuff Saturday 3/26 and Sunday

And FIREARM AND VALUABLES PUBLIC AUCTION Legacy Auction & Appraisal, LLC  on Sunday, 3/27.

Ones in CA and the other in PA, so if you close by you could go watch live.

Don't get carried away.  Don't forget the bidders fee.

In a continuing effort to separate the rest of you from your money (hard earned or ill-gotten), just a friendly notice that the Rock Island AUCTION (not armory) May 20-22 Collector's auction now has their catalog on-line.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/auction/aid/52 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/auction/aid/52)

I haven't seen anything I can live without, but I'm just started searching.    Lot's of early cartridge firearms.   Many S&W pre-M&P stuff (models 1, 2, 3, etc).  No HS Crusaders.  No Colt Anacondas.

Okay,  Rock Island AUCTIONs is having their fall auction Today, Sat and Sunday.  (Sep 9, 10 & 11)

Lots of goodies.  Many are lots of 2 guns.  So you have to buy one you don't want.  Good news is the price of the two is usually less than the price of the items if sold separately.

Lots of Smiths and other guns.  Don't forget the 18% buyer fee and shipping.   You may get lucky and get something for a low bid that others have overlooked.  Got low ball bids in on a S&W 625 and a Dan Wesson .357 Max

Okay, it's auction time again.    It's fun even if you're not going to bid on anything to look through the catalog for your favorite.

Next up is a Rock Island Auction regional one in LV.   I've just looked at revolvers so far and there are 1,300 of them.   This is primarily an "antique" gun auction but I've found many modern guns as well as historical ones in the list.

Of course buyer beware of auction fees and shipping.

They have a Borchardt that looks like new and a Volcanic pistol. I've never seen either one IRL. An early Colt either for that matter. Definately not your run of the mill auction.

Ratus, Okay and no.

I just can't quite justify the $300+ (++) for an Aimpoint, EOTech or Trijicon.   So I keep wasting money on the lower end of the scale.

The problem with this models and others like it is the mechanism used to change the reticle.   As you move the lever to change from say "dot-in-circle" to "cross" the zero changes.  And if you don't get that lever in exactly the right detent position then you're off.

My next one will have a fixed reticle.  I'm looking at those in the $200 range. Possibly Bushnell or Burris.   It's not a priority right now and the NcStar will do.   I keep taking the Buckmark out, but am never fully satisfied with the shooting results.  And maybe it's not as bad as I think it is.  It could just me.  I just don't have confidence in it's zero.

Don't you know it Magoo.   And I'm the one on this board who always preaches about never regretting paying for quality.  You'd think I'd follow my own advice.

"The sweet taste of low price is long gone, while the the bitter flavor of poor quality remains for ever."

(or variations of the same)

I bought some Xecilite tools for electronics work when I was a teenager.  It cost me all my savings.  The store employees encouraged me to spend the extra money and that I'd never regret it.   I remember most the sign they had  above the cash register.  Something like this:

We sell fresh, top quality oats.    If you find our prices too high, we also sell, at a much lower cost, oats that have been processed by our horses.

Xecilite, Snap-on, Kennedy!  I've supplemented my tool boxes with lesser quality stuff over the years but the stuff I still have thirty five years later is still better and still going strong!

I have a Snap on set that I got in high school.  It was a special promotion in high school auto shop.  I've had a screw driver tip or two go bad and an open end wrench that spread.  All replaced free by Snap On.  This set has been supplemented by Sears Craftsman mostly since then and for the most part they have held up OK.  I won't buy Sear electrical tools though.  I have an assortment of those.  Makita, Black and Decker pro series, Porter Cable, and Skil worm drive saw.  Saw a Milwaukee hole shooter get dunking, shook the water out of it, let it sit in the sun to dry it out and it ran fine the next day.  The only problem I've had with any of those was a Porter Cable circular saw that feel two stories off a roof.  It still runs, but not right and the base plate is all bent up.  Not the saw's fault though.

When I was working as a service tech traveling to nuclear plants, I begged and pleaded with the company to buy one of those Xcelite brief case type tool boxes.  It traveled with me for five or six years to thirty four different plants and I still had every tool I started with!  Not a small accomplishment considering you're working in a radioactively contaminated environment!

I left the employ of the company for 15 months while my Dad was sick and went back when I couldn't find work in Michigan.  My travel kit had been raided, lost and misplaced in less than a year and a half!  The cost to replace the missing tools was cost prohibitive and I had to settle for lesser quality tools!

I figured they would leave a bad taste in your mouth.  I bought one of their lasers for the wife's Glock 19 (eewwww) so she could try it before buying an expensive laser.  The dang thing drifts all over and is rarely on or very near target.

10-4 on the Milwaukee Hole Shooter...I used them offshore and they are the only drill to hold up to heavy use or to getting AC power from a welding machine.  Black and Decker industrials lasted maybe 10 days....the home variety about a day.  Other brands may last a month...but Milwaukee never failed and was only replaced when somebody stole it and brought it home.

Xceilite I did not know about...thanks.  I've had Snap-On and I buy Craftsman due to the replacement warranty..

April 20,21, 22  Rock Island Auction's Spring Premiere Auction.

Around 3,000 firearms (or related stuff).

Sorry, no High Standard Crusaders, but I have found a couple of S&W's I might keep my eye on.

Last warning.   Starts this Friday, 4/20.   here's a link to their 16 page full color flyer (pdf).

If you look through this flyer and don't see anything you would like, then I respectfully suggest you drop your account in all the gun forums and join a forum on basket weaving.

My gosh, they've got an1883 COLT Gatling gun complete with carriage and casson?

My lot is #1906, with the good lady's permission I'm submitting pre-bid tomorrow and I'll keep my fingers crossed.  But there are many other things out their that are absolutely to die for.    How often do you see a Winslow Arms rifle?    How about a pair of consecutively numbered Winchester Model 21 SxS shotguns?

I have a Snap on set that I got in high school.

I have my grandpa's Snap-on roller cabinet he bought when he got back from WWII in my garage.  Drove 10 hours one way just to get it when the BITC...err my step-grandma passed away and her son was "gracious" enough to let me have it after I offered to buy it 8 years earlier.

For the curious about this weekend's RIA auction

The first of the Singer 1911's went for $70,000.  (plus 15% buyers fee)   And the second for $32,500.   A number early Colt and Remington Rand 1911 went for 5 digits as well.

There was also a historical Luger that brought $60,000.

I bet the Borchardt fetched a pretty penny too. That's one of those guns I haven't even seen in a museum. It's hard to imagine the price.
Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: alfsauve on April 21, 2012, 09:32:00 PM
If you're talking about the Sharps Borchardt Model 1878 Military 45-70 Rifle with Scarce J.P. Lower, Denver Col. Retailer Markin, then it only went for $1,100.  A bit of a disappointment

HOWEVER, if you're talking about  Cased Model 1902 Georg Luger DWM Semi-Automatic Carbine with Gold Inlay.  Well that went for $100,000.

Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: alfsauve on April 22, 2012, 05:09:49 PM
Okay the third, literally, Prototype #3, of the Singer 1911A1 went for only $30,000.

And this could have been yours (no box and no instruction manual) for a mere:

$210,000 US  (plus 15% bidders fee if you pay cash)

So I wonder if my C&R qualifies?   Can I pick it up in person?

HA!   I wish.

Post by: alfsauve on May 02, 2012, 07:50:52 AM
A small auction but seems like plenty of variety, is Cowan's auction today and tomorrow in Cincinatti.  (Sorry for the late notice.)

I'm primarily looking at revolvers and they have over 200 for the 2 days.   Then there's 1,000+ other rifles, semi-autos, shotguns and stuff.   Looks like a very good spread from flint and wheel lock, to percussion and modern.

Post by: alfsauve on May 13, 2012, 07:45:58 PM
4 Auctions over two days by Little John Auctions in Orange, CA.

Lots of 19th century stuff, especially revolvers.   This auction is from several "collectors".   I counted about 400 revolvers and very few are post 1900, and of those, few are double action.   Lots of Colts, as well as other brands that have long since left the business.   Bill Decker's Colt SAA is up for auction.  He was instrumental in bringing down Bonnie and Clyde and was still Sheriff of Dallas County, and riding in the lead car of the motorcade when JFK was shot.   Also up for auction is a Colt SAA from Texas Ranger Jeff Milton.

Direct to Little John's web site

Or through ProxiBid

Just a friendly reminder that the Little John auctions (above) start tomorrow.

I had my eye on a couple of Colt SAA's that hadn't garnered any bids.   Well, up until this weekend.  Now interest is picking up, so I won't be bidding on them.   Didn't think I could get one on the cheap anyway.

There's lots of turn of the century (~1900) stuff on this auction.

Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: alfsauve on May 25, 2012, 06:40:58 AM
Little John auction is in the book.

Those Colt SAA's that no one seemed interested in, early on?   One went for $7,500 and the other for an even ten grand !!!

I guess I won't be putting an authentic SAA in my safe any time soon ... or later for that matter.
Title: Re: June 2012 Auction - RIA Regional
Post by: alfsauve on May 25, 2012, 07:04:12 AM
NEXT UP:

The big regional Rock Island Armory auction.   Only about 6,000 guns.
http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/aid/1019 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/aid/1019)

I counted over 150 Winchester Lever Actions, most (at least many) pre-1900.  WAIT WAIT.  That's 150 "lots".  Some lot contain multiple guns.

Over 380 lots of "Colt Revolvers".   648 lots with the word "shotgun".  And over 90 lots of "1911".

Personally, if I were a 1911 addict I might go for this pair.

A Union Switch and an Ithaca.  Neither "original" though both C&R, but still something really fine to pull out at the range.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/1019/lid/4763 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/1019/lid/4763)

Me, I've got my sights on the S&W 627, but I may buy one of GB before July rolls around.

Remember you can go through Proxibid or direct to RIA.

Title: Local Auctions - Check List on ProxiBid
Post by: alfsauve on May 25, 2012, 07:15:00 AM
One great use of Proxibid isn't with "on-line" bidding, but just as a listing service for local auctions.  This is a list of all their associated firearm auctions.

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/firearm-auctions.asp (https://www.proxibid.com/asp/firearm-auctions.asp)

If you periodically check their web site you might find auctions in your community that you can attend in-person. Here's a list of locations of firearm related auctions over just the next week.

Virginia Beach,  VA
Frederick,  MD
Wirtz,  VA
Virginia Beach,  VA
Princeton,  IL
Union,  IL
Westfield,  PA
Milwaukie,  OR
Collins,  MO
Portland,  OR

You can use Proxibid to search the catalog of each auction to see if there's anything for which it would be worth attending.

Good luck and have fun.

RIDICULOUS

It's an example of people getting carried away at auctions.

This is a S&W 627 which Has an MSRP of $1,249. Routinely sells for $1,000 at gun stores.

This bidder wil pay $1,380 + shipping + FFL MINIMUM

Here's a little upcoming auction. Dillards Auction in Spring Hill, PA, Saturday 8/18.  Hard to tell from the pre-bids how this one will go.  Only 130 guns but there's a smattering of things.

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=55776&p=1&sort=0#cnTb

Most notable (to me at least) is a Herter's bolt action in .338 Win Mag.   Good looking stock.  A nostalgic thing since Herter's was The MidwayUSA of the 60s and 70s.

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=5700&aid=55776&lid=14167439#

I'll probably put in some low pre-bid on the Ruger Blackhawk .45 just for fun.

As usual buyer beware of the auction and shipping fees.  You can probably go directly to the auction company web site and put in pre-bids and save a couple percent.

A number of auctions right now, but most just so-so.  The big RIA is at the end of November, I'll post more on that when I get the catalog.

This one (this coming week) looks interesting especially for black powder buffs.  Lots of Flintlock and percussion stuff, especially mid-19th century (think Civil War and Indian wars)  Some later 18th century stuff, early cartridge.  There's some modern, 20th century stuff and even some Les Baer rifles as well as some SCHUETZEN RIFLEs BY BUCHEL.

This is a "collectors" auction so most lots only contain one gun.  Nov

3,330+ firearms
900+ Revolvers
700+ Rifles.

Lots of early cartridge stuff.   (Only found on 7x57.)

Haven't really done a lot of dissecting, but when you get bored peruse this catalog for you dream gun.   I'll post the more unusual items later.

The pre-bid over on Proxibid is already $1,800 with almost 3 weeks till auction.  You'll need every penny donation you can collect.

There's a Kull auction in Topeka, KS this weekend that has a number of interesting items.   If you're not familar, Kull's partner is Jim Supica.  Mr Supica is head of the NRA Museum and is known as Mr S&W, being the author of the Standard Catalog of S&W.

Anyway, they have "good stuff" on their auction.  http://www.armsbid.com/
(It's a 2 day auction so in Proxibid you have to search each catalog separately.)

.22 conversion kits for 1911, Glock and AR
Lots of late 1800s and early 1900s guns.
Colt Cap and Ball revolvers
Lots of Lever actions including 1892s, 1894s, 1895s,
Pistol/Revolver Barrels and Slides

Here's one of the more interesting items:  (Prebids are already over $10,000)

Title: Re: The Big RIA one for Nov/Dec
Post by: alfsauve on November 25, 2012, 09:07:11 PM
Just to repeat, it's coming up this week.  11/30-12/2
This is a "collectors" auction so most lots only contain one gun.

3,330+ firearms
900+ Revolvers
700+ Rifles.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/3/aid/57 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/3/aid/57)

So there's so much 19th century stuff, to much to even begin to note.   And plenty of  20th century also.

Here's about the most unique thing out there.   As most of the DRTV members know, it came to a showdown between the Savage and the Browning pistols for the winner of the 1911.   Had Savage won the shootout, "1911" would have taken on a whole new meaning.

Well, would you like to own that "other" gun?   There are TWO of them up for auction.

Saw a 1926 model sell at auction last summer for $200.
A friend of mine asked me to give him advice, he didn't want to go $250.
Bought a bunch of fake Chinese decorations instead .
When I got home I sent him the results of a Gun Broker search, he hasn't asked me to go to another one.

Have been very busy the last month.

SO:  I haven't perused the auction scene to much lately.  But here's one that might keep you entertained over the holiday's.  It's on 12/3 and 12/31.   More accessories than guns, but that's kinda interesting.   Looks like they're auctioning off a gun store.  Lots of boxes of ammo, holsters, grips and other things.

Didn't catch this till last night.   Hope nobody gets left out on the bidding.  Auction at 7pm ET tonight.

Just one caveat:  The building isn't included, but still how often do you get to bid on a 12 bad range?

[I know I've been quiet lately, but just ran across this and had to share.]

ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY

IAN FLEMING's Ruger MK I is up for auction.

Auction Link:  https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=4840&aid=61333&lid=15455580&rts=/asp/searchadvanced_i.asp%23searchid%3D0%26type%3Dlot%26search%3Druger%2520mk%26sort%3Drelevance%26length%3D25%26start%3D1%26refine%3D%26nc%3D1359503473485#topoflot (https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=4840&aid=61333&lid=15455580&rts=/asp/searchadvanced_i.asp%23searchid%3D0%26type%3Dlot%26search%3Druger%2520mk%26sort%3Drelevance%26length%3D25%26start%3D1%26refine%3D%26nc%3D1359503473485#topoflot)

You won't get another chance at such a collectible piece, except of course when my Mk I goes up for sale by my estate.  (Actually, whatever Ian's goes for I'll take half for mine.)  (Did I mention the first bid is $3,500 already?)

This auction has a number of unique revolvers, including several Merwin & Hulberts.  It also has about 100 older rifles and:

An 1862-'63 Spanish Howitzer.  (current bid $18,000)

Model 1863 Spanish Mountain Howitzer, with royal cipher of the Queen of Spain. Purportedly purchased from Spain and used by the South, with only five known extant, one in a Detroit Museum, one in a Salt Lake City Museum, one in a Virginia Museum, and only this and one other in private hands.

Also, and look the other way, because this is not the gun you want, there is a High Standard Crusader in .44Mag.  If I had a "collectable" piece in my safe, this is it.    Unfortunately, I need to buy semi-auto, evil Personal Defense Weapons right now.  This beauty may have to wait.

Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: alfsauve on February 02, 2013, 08:18:55 PM
MY Crusader went for $800.  With fees and shipping and FFL that's almost $1,000.    Much too much for me for a safe queen.

The Howitzer didn't fair too well.  Only $18,500.  With auction fee that pushes it near $22,000.  I assume buyer will pick up at auction site.

Oh, and Ian Fleming's MK I ?    Went for $6,250.

Okay, my Mk I doesn't belong to anyone famous (except in my own mind), but still.  Someone is willing to pay over six grand for a MK I.

Another big regional auction:   For those not following these auctions typically average a minimum of $1,000 per lot.  Many of the lots have 2 or more guns, but don't let that frighten you.  Would you pay $300 for a Remington 700?  Buy four at $1,200, sell the other three and you might even come out ahead.

Unique items.  TWO Springfield 1903's with consecutive s/n's.  Buy one or both.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/1020/lid/723 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/1020/lid/723)

Most expensive item:  Winchester 1866 factory engraved lever action in .44, ~$15-30K

Cheapest item:  3 old model telephones, $200-400

And for you 1911 guys how about a one with three 16" barrels?  This lot has 7 1911s.  4 in.45 and 3 in 9mm.

Here's a good auction coming up this weekend.  And it's in Montrose, GA  for my local buds who want to go see a live auction.

(I've sworn them off myself after "winning" another 7x57.)

Over 900 firearms  (more than some gun shows).   I counted close to 200 revolvers and 200 semi-autos.   Many bolt action rifles and plenty of shotguns.     Most expensive items appears to be a Marlin 1893 lever action in 38-55.

And this weekend's auction.  Worth a look see.

Reinhardt Auctions in Palisade, MN

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=63380 (https://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=63380)

About 300 guns.  Most under $1,000 and many in the $500 range.  Most interesting one, to me, is a Savage 99.  Always thought they were neat rifles.   This is a 99 in .300 Savage.  It has what appears to be a tang rear sight, but there is also the regular one mid-action.   There also is an extra barrel, but no explanation of what it is.

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=330&aid=63380&lid=16013087&title=Savage-99-TD-300-Sav.-Lever-Rifle-327692-w-410-bbl.-80-blue-solid-wood-receiver-has-been-dri (https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=330&aid=63380&lid=16013087&title=Savage-99-TD-300-Sav.-Lever-Rifle-327692-w-410-bbl.-80-blue-solid-wood-receiver-has-been-dri)

I don't need it.  I don't need it.  But there's another early model Ruger M77, tang safety, in 7x57,  It'll probably go for $500 (plus fees and shipping).   My M77 is arriving today at the FFL.  Don't need another one. Don't need another one.

Please feel free to bid on this one and save me from my adcition.

Don't need another one. Don't need another one.

There were two Savage 99s.

The one pictured above went for $1,125.  The second one went for only $450.  Not as good of condition.

The Ruger M77 went for $700!!!! Glad I got mine for only $450.

I've been remiss in keeping updated on auctions.   I've gotten somewhat bored with them... that and I'm tapped out money wise for the summer.   Any extra funds are going towards ammo.

BUT

Here's Rock Island Auction's big quarterly auction.  Mostly single lots.  It's a 3 day auction with close to 3,000 firearms.  It starts today but you have plenty of time to jump in.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/1/aid/58 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/1/aid/58)

RIA's auction contain some remarkable firearms, many very historic in nature.    I can't begin to describe all the ones in this auction.  Just recommend that you peruse the catalog.   Included in this auction are a number of Class 3 firearms including a German MG-42 AND an M2 30 Carbine.

Of the top highest estimated price items the top 6 are revolvers!  These come from M Betrand Couch's collection.  "Couch often went by the name of Frisco Bert, which was given in relation to his hobbies. He was a lifelong collector of Western pop culture memorabilia, including one of the foremost collections of dime novels in the US at the time."

Most expensive.

I'm not big on engraving, but I do like this one.  There is simple, understated elegance about it.

Rare Bertrand Couch Collection of Service Revolvers -A) Glahn Factory Engraved and Gold Inlaid Pre-War Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Steer Head Ivory Grips Holster and Factory Letter once Belonging to M. Bertrand "Frisco Bert" Couch.  Can be yours for only about $225,000

If you only have $100K to spend how about this:  Super Rare Original KAC Manufactured Stoner Model 63A Fully Automatic NFA Machine Gun with Spare Barrel Magazine Boxes and Parts.  ~$60K

LASTLY:

For you J.M Browning fans.  (and who isn't?):  Historic John M. Browning Prototype Model 1893 Carbine with Extensive Documentation. One-of-a-kind prototype lever action carbine made by firearms genius John M. Browning in his Ogden, Utah, shop c. 1893.  ~$60K

For the curious:

The Bertran Couch engraved Colt SAA was a real disappointment.   It went for only $95,000.   Bet some of you wish you had of bid on it now, huh?

The Browning prototype 1893:  $70,000

ps don't forget the 18.5% auction fee on top of those bids.

[Just when you thought I'd forgotten about auctions or had finally gotten them out of my system.]

Got the big book from Rock Island Auction last week.    Their big regional auction is coming up at the end of the month.   For those unfamiliar, when RIA has a regional auction each lot is targeted to bring a minimum of $1,000.   Some lots aren't quite that high, and many of them are worth much more than that.  If they have some inexpensive items, they'll put multiple of them into one bidding lot.  So many times you'll see 2, 3 or even 10 guns in one lot.

Don't click on the picture but go here to see the entire auction catalog:  http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/aid/1021 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/aid/1021)

Unfortunately, there aren't any celebrity guns like some in the past when they had Ian Fleming Ruger MKI.  But still there's a lot to see, and bid on this time around.   How about some Volcanics?   The gun that started a whole revolution in repeatable firearms.  This one a rare factory engraved estimated to bring $6-8K

Or how about a Henry rifle.  Most expensive item at auction in the $20K range.

If lever actions, and they have lots of them, don't float your boat how about a Singer 1911?  Only expected to bring around $12K

CANNONS?   CANNONS you say?  They got them.  Nothing really old or terribly historic, but still there are a few.

How about a 40 gauge, nine shot hand cannon?

OH SORRY.  You meant something like this cast iron 80 gauge cannon with 19" barrel.   Nineteen inches around!

Plenty of WWI and WWII stuff.  Including lots of Walthers like this pair of Nazi Proof P-38s.  Win this lot for $1,200 and that's only $600 each.

Have fun just looking and if you bid don't forget there's a 17.5% buyer fee, plus shipping, plus FFL.

(And yes there are a matched set of HS Crusaders.)

Since I've become satiated with auctions for a while I haven't updated you guys on the latest.   Never Fear.  Clyde Crashcup to the rescue.

Rock Island Auction is or has held an on-line only auction but the catalog wasn't that extensive.  However, and I'm sorry to be so late in telling everyone, Orange Coast Auctions is holding a super one tomorrow, Saturday, 8/2.  Here's the ProxiBid link to the catalog

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=68585 (https://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=68585)

Single Actions out the wazoo, including a lot of Colts, Merwin and Hulberts and S&Ws.  Lot's of antique lever actions as well.

How about this M&H Second Model.  Bid today is only $4,400.

Top item will probably be this original 1st Model Henry Repeater,  high bid $10,250

Or maybe an UNFIRED Remington 1875 revolver!   Current bid at $9,000 right now

There are around 750 lots.   Many under $1,000.   And yes, there is a Crusader, which I'll make a token bid on.   It's a fun catalog to view.  Sort by Bid $ High to Low.

Oh and did I mention things like pre-War 1911s, a 1941 Johnson Semi-Auto, M1s, Colt Mk IVs 70s and 80s, and a bunch of P-08s and P-38s?

It's just happens to have belonged to Robert LeRoy Parker.

Now for those challenged by western history, that's Butch Cassidy.

Up for auction in September.  Along with a lot of other guns from the 19th century.

(Just when you though I'd given up on auctions and it was safe to come out.)

Rock Island is having a premier auction coming up 12/6-12/8.  Most of it is way beyond me being in the 5 digit territory, but it will be an interesting one to watch and see what the various collectibles go for.  There are over 600 revolvers, most of them single action, authentic, original single actions.

First and by far the most valued thing is a pair of Colt Single actions with holster rig belonging to Ronald Reagan.  But be advised you'll proabably need 6 digits in your bank account.

Title: Re: Gun Range up for Auction
Post by: MikeBjerum on November 11, 2013, 09:25:18 AM
How long has it been since I jumped on this thread?  This is sad  :-[

This store and range was only 45 miles from me.  This was his third try at a shop.  You know what they say about horses and divorces.

He operated two different times out of outbuildings on his rural yards before this venture.  First attempt he shut down when his wife demanded hundreds of thousands over the small business in a divorce settlement; the second time he was going bankrupt and convinced lenders that he could make a million if he moved into town and built a first rate facility, add a range, and expand his sales scope, and the third was this venture which shows he was a good salesman in front of the banker but wrong in his projections.

Also, the guy was a jerk!

I shoot winter league in a town the same distance the other side of me.  It is a small club range in the basement of a business in downtown.  Not as fancy, but actually nicer to use.  Besides, not being a typical business we have a $50 membership and $15 per league.  The Hunter's Den had both use fees and league membership that were unbelievably high, even when you realize he was a business with expenses.  Top it off with you would expect that for a membership and participating in leagues you could get some price breaks on ammo, targets, whatever, but no.  You even needed to purchase the targets for each evening after paying for the league price and the range time for the league.

Bottom line was that when he went under again nobody was shocked or really misses him.

Didn't catch this till last night.   Hope nobody gets left out on the bidding.  Auction at 7pm ET tonight.

Just one caveat:  The building isn't included, but still how often do you get to bid on a 12 bad range?

Ah, midwinter and I can smell the sawdust and the auctioneer's cigar.  Or at least I can imagine it.

Rock Island Auction's winter Regional Firearms Auction is coming up 2/21-23.  This will either serve to steer you away or suck you into it.   There's nothing noteworthy, celabratory-wise like the previous auctions.  Just a lot of:

Henry lever actions:  In fact the only items over $10k are the Henry's.

M1 Carbine:  There are a couple of IBM's and a Rockola.

Ah but wait, hidden in a group of three rifles is one by Irwin Pedersen.  Check out the middle one.
Surprise it's collectors value isn't higher.

There are a thousand plus revolvers.  Everything from pin fires, to percussion, to single actions, to modern day cartridge double actions.

Plenty of semi-auto pistols, too.

Also, this:  A Smith and Wesson Armorer's Kit with parts and tools.

As always.  Buyer beware.  Watch out for the auction fees.

And yes there is a cannon.  4-1/2" bore to give you some perspective.

Here's an interesting carbine in the upcoming Rock Island Auction.

9mm Collaspable stock.  Feather Industries.  Price seems about 3x higher than it should.  I'll bid $300 and see what happens.

I still keep my hand in, especially with Rock Island Auctions.

Thought these two would be of interest, if you have 5 bills.

The first is one of Ed McGivern's guns.  He was the greatest greatest pistol shooter of all time.  Now, Michlek may be a great shooter and certainly the greatest at reloading, but Ed... Ed could fire so fast the previous bullet wouldn't be all the way out the barrel when he fired the next one.

Anyway, here's a documented Colt SAA of his for a mere, $20K
(http://www.rockislandauction.com/photos/61/p_thumbs/LYZ1-Z-F2-H.jpg)

You can bid at:  http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/61/lid/1180 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/61/lid/1180)

Then how about a DA Colt owned by Clyde Barrow.    Yep, Clyde of Bonnie and Clyde.  This will cost you more like $40K

Yes, I'm still prowling the auction web sites.  This weekend, 7/11-7/13's Rock Island Auction doesn' have anything of great historical significance.  But there are a lot of good items this quarter.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/aid/1023

In the 5 digit bidding (>$9,999) there are a couple of S&W 320 revolver rifles, a Volcanic (Lot #1) and a  "First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Case, Knife and Hip Flask, All Inscribed to Timothy "Longhair Jim" Courtright, Old West Gunfighter."

You can place one time pre-bids through RIA or use Proxibid for real time bidding.  Warning 15%+ buyer's fee.

I'm bidding on all the 686's.  (Not the mixed lots, just the stand alone Pro Series and the multiples where all the guns are 686.)

Here's a picture of the Volcanic.

And I won lot 807.    Bid too much.

Two 686-6's one 4" one 6".  It'll be $600 each, by the time, I pay bidder fee, FFL and shipping.    Good buy, but I really didn't NEED them.

3 items in tomorrows auction.  Have I gone overboard?
Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions

So....is the 4" for sale? hint, hint

I looked at the listings. Too many that had multiple guns and not enough coin or need for multiples.
I still need a 4" stainless to fit between my 6" 629 and the 'baby' 649.
The quest continues....
Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: alfsauve on July 15, 2014, 07:43:43 AM
Here's the haul:   Not sure how I'm going to sort all of these out, but definitely going to sell some of the older model I have of these.

686-6  4"  ProSeries
686-6  6"
686-6  4"
686-6  5"
60      3"

All like new in matching box with original accessories.  All told it'll be about $550ea with shipping and FFL.  I didn't intend to spend that much, but I'll recoup some by selling the older models.  And with the exception of the plain 4" model, they'll all keepers and will be seeing either CCW or competition duty soon.

Uh, it's the attack of the neutron power modules.    Or wait, maybe it's just a portable server farm?  No, no, it a R.A.I.D. array.

It's the attack of the Smith & Wesson blue boxes.   Arrrgh.    The gun store called and they were overrun with them.  Asked me to take a few off their hands.

And what's in them?  BONUS TIME.

Three of these are Pro Series. Three are 686 Plus.  All are basically unfired, new in box.  WOW.

A 686 Pro Series 4" and a 686+ Pro Series 5".  A regular 686+ in 4" and 6".  AND the bonus.  The M 60 3" is a Pro Series!!!

The M60 is a sweet carry gun.  The actions on the Pro Series are nice.

Now to figuring out what to do with this plethora of 686s.   Some I'm keeping and some are going to become trading fodder of other guns.

Oh, a final family portrait.   Yes there are four 4" ones.    Can you tell which gun I shoot every week... and don't clean?

I know this isn't the "classifieds" but if anyone is interested in any of the 686 Plus's, PM me.
Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions December 2014

Take a careful look at the picture below.  What do you see?   A plain, old, Colt Walker revolver?

Doesn't look like much.  No fancy engraving or such.  But that isn't just a Colt Walker, but it is one of the original revolvers issued to Company C under  Col Walker.  One of the first 220 such guns made to Walkers specifications.   So for a mere pittance it can be yours in the upcoming RIA auction.   (My guess is $250K)  All the documentation, which is fascinating to read, is online as well.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/5/aid/63 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/search/5/aid/63)

Some other things of historical interest include three, yes 3, 1907 Savage .45 pistols.  One a production model presented to Buffalo Bill and one of the actual test models which competed with the 1911 for the Army service pistol.   Again there's pictures of the documentation.

A replica Gatling gun, and a number of Civil War era guns, including a Henry.

Lot's of Colt revolvers (modern SA/DA).  Quite a few rifles and shotguns as well.  So much to see even if you don't bid.

I am so, so sorry.  Because of my neglect I may have caused someone to miss the auction of a lifetime.

I didn't see it until this morning, but Friday's auction had the Charter Arms Undercover revolver used by Arthur Bremmer in his attempted assassination of Alabama Govenor George Wallace in 1972.  If nothing else the accompanying documents are rather interesting.  $15K-$30K

http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/63/lid/499

Quote
This is truly a very unique and certainly a "one of a kind" revolver that was used by Arthur Bremmer in the attempted assassination of then Governor George Wallace of Alabama. This historic revolver is accompanied by numerous documents, police reports, hospital records and a 9 page Report of Investigation by the Prince George County Police, attesting the criminal act, verifying that this exact pistol was the one used in the assassination attempt. It is also accompanied by a copy of the sales receipt from the "Casanova Gun" shop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Bremmer purchased the pistol. In May 1972, Governor Wallace was on a campaign tour as one of the democratic candidates for the Presidency of the United States and was shot after giving a campaign speech in Laurel Maryland. He was hit twice, with one bullet hitting his spine leaving him paralyzed for life from the waist down. Governor Wallace was a staunch democrat and populist within the state of Alabama, who served four (non-consecutive terms) as Governor and who vehemently opposed racial integration and mandatory busing in the state. Probably the most infamous act that he is so well known for was standing on the door steps of the Foster Auditorium of University of Alabama in an attempt to stop the Federally mandated integration of public schools in the south. To ensure that the schools were racially integrated, President John Kennedy ordered the 2nd Infantry Division to keep order and to enforce integration. In September of 1963, he attempted to do the same thing by trying to stop the enrollment of four black children in separate schools. However, he was stopped by a Federal Court Order and the children were allowed in. He later ran for the Democratic (or independent) nominee for President of the United States on four separate occasions; 1964, 1968, (with then retired General Curtis Lemay) then in 1972 (where he was shot) and again in 1976. On all four occasions he was defeated. Later in life he completely renounced segregation and embraced racial integration. He died in September of 1998 from septic shock due to a bacterial infection. The pistol as noted is a very small, five shot pocket revolver with round butt. It is blued with smooth walnut grips. The left side of the frame has been scratched/etched with "RAI/5-15-72", which is the exact date the revolver was turned over by the Secret Service Agent Robert A. Innamorati to FBI Agents Joseph Slaughter and George Sinclair. The right side of the frame is stamped with serial number "104347". The same serial number 104347 is listed on the copy of the sales receipt when Bremmer purchased it from a gunshop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Yes it's been 5 months since I've bothered with an auction.  Been a busy spring.

So RIA's upcoming regional is coming up in June.  I don't have the hard copy yet, but they sent me an email and I searched through the on-line catalog.

http://www.rockislandauction.com/auction/aid/1025 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/auction/aid/1025)

Nothing cheap.  There's a lot of Henry's and old Winchesters.  And this little jewel.

Know whose percussion revolver this was?

It was one of the two Clint Eastwood used in the movie, "The Outlaw, Josey Wales"

Overall there's some historically interesting stuff, but I think some things are way over priced.   For example, a lot with a Remington 241 .22lr rifle and a Ruger 10/22, they're starting the bidding at $600.   When you add Buyers Premium, shipping and FFL you're going to be paying close to $800.  I realize 241s are historical and desirable, but they're not anywhere near selling for $500.  And a brand new 10/22 is only $199.   So you can buy them separately for a lot less than the starting bid price.

Have fun just looking.   No canons or mortars or anything.  Lots of historical revolvers though.

Not for the faint-of-heart, pocketbook-wise.    Rock Island Fall Regional Auction.

Here's two of the creme-de-la-creme.

A pair of Colt, factory engraved Single Action Army.   Think around $150,000 ! ! !

Pistols not your thing?  How about a John Ulrich Signed Factory Engraved and Big Game Gold Inlaid Winchester Model 1910 in 401SL?

BONUS:  If you have $200,000+ to spare then why not go full automatic with a  Krieghoff Second Model FG-42 Fallschirmjaegergewehr Paratrooper Rifle?

Not for the faint of heart.  Plenty of class III German and American autos.

For the Colt Python fans, several models expect to sell upwards of $9,000!

Here's a couple of gems:

Singer 1911 $75K:   http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/66/lid/3588 (http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/66/lid/3588)

Savage 1907 .45ACP. $25K   One of the test pistols that competed against the 1911.

If those are too rich for you, there's a Savage 1907 in .32 caliber.  Actually a pair for only about $1,200.

My favorite, if I win the lottery, is the engraved and gold inlaid High Standard 50th Anniversary Crusader Double Action Revolver with Case.   Matching s/n pair actually, for just ~$2,500... EACH.  One in .45Colt, the other in .44Mag.  You'll have to bid separately and hope you win both.

The oddities:

A couple years ago I was at a local auction cuz a friend of mine wanted gun advice after I told him a "civil war" STYLE muzzle loader with a polyurethane stock and peep site was most likely a reproduction , especially when I turned it over and saw the Pedersoli address stamp.
I suggested he bet at least $125 and be willing to go to $250 on a like new, 1907Savage in 380 he didn't want to take a chance on not getting his money back.
After I got home I did some research and rubbed his nose in the fact that when you ASK some one to share their knowledge with you you're a damned fool not to listen.
He hasn't spoken to me since LOL

RIA isn't having another auction till the end of April, so I'm in for a long dry spell.

To fill in the time, I checked out a bunch of minor auctions, but alas, didn't find anything of real interest.

There is a police confiscated guns auction in Knoxville.  It's full of junk guns.  If you're so inclined.  Check out what the criminal element is carrying.   There is a .50AE Desert Eagle, but not a lot of real interest.

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=104309

I did find this little auction coming up the end of January.  The pre-bids are all low, since its so far out, but it might be worth keeping an eye on.  Right now, 1916 and 1936 Lugars are at ~$250, M1 Carbine at $220 and a Liberator at $180 (no box though). In Valparaiso, IN 46383

One of those sites had a Jennings .22 pistol for $60 and now it's up to $70. It wasn't worth that much when it was new. I had one and it was a fun gun until it wore out.

I studied micro-econ from a professor who's main area of expertise was auctions.  Long and short people get carried away with the bidding.  And if you're the auction company you do things to encourage this.  If you think, pre-bids are out of hand, in-person bidding can be insane.

A local fishing/hunting/shooting store went under and I went to the on-site auction.  People where paying retail and more for the guns!   Heck the store should just have had a monthly going-out-of-business auction.  They would have made a fortune and only had to be open one night a month.

I've learned to be patient and let things go if they aren't bargains.  For every gun I win at auction I probably have lost 15 or 20 other bids because I refuse to be caught up in the fever of the moment.  Patience and knowing your prices is VERY important

Hey, I was just looking at that Mateba. Did that fire from the bottom cylinder like the Chiapas Rhino ?
Sure looks that way.

Yep fires from the bottom chamber.  Also, since the barrel is so low in the beefed up frame, there's no need for top strap, though some model do.   I think they've been made in .357Mag, .44Mag and .454 Casull.  A rifle version as well.

The most interesting thing about the Mateba is that it's a recoil operated semi-automatic. That's something you don't see very often. I didn't know they made a rifle version. It's a funny looking thing. I read somewhere it was a 12.5" barrel (or an 18" for us). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKQzXlyYDpY

Jumping the gun a little on this auction since it's not until Feb 25-28th.

Rock Island Auction's Regional Auction.   Nothing terribly outstanding jumps out.  There's a few signal and line throwing cannons and a number of historic machine guns, which unfortunately are declared by BATF to be "unserviceable" (how sad).   The high end is dominated by New Haven Henry and Winchester 1866  lever actions.   The most expensive of which is this engraved one for only about $25,000 if you're so inclined.

Here's an example of a World War I Nurnberg Production Model 08/15 Maxim Machine Gun with Bipod.  "Unserviceable" for about $5,000.

If you're a historical collector, especially World War stuff, then you'll like the U.S. Johnson Automatics Model 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle for around three grand.

Title: Re: Premiere Firearms Auction - April 29 - May 1, 2016
Post by: alfsauve on April 02, 2016, 09:17:33 AM
I've become satiated with auctions, so primarily just following RIA.   That and my priorities are pretty utilitarian these days.

The upcoming Premiere auction has some wonderful historic pieces.   I posted one to Jim Wilson's FB page.  And below is another one.    This auction has "premiere" pieces so typically it's single guns nothing less than ~$1,000.  There are a few lots with multiple guns, but not many.   Cannons, shotguns, and rifles.  Several Liberators and historic 1911's.   It's worth it to peruse the catalog just for the history.

What strikes me odd is the several Colt snake revolvers for <$1,500.  Typically, these sell for two grand or upwards.  So if you've just got to have one then go for it.  Yes, there is a pair of my favorite High Standard Crusaders with matching s/n  44C022 and 45C022.  Sadly, at $2,500+ each they're way beyond my price range.  They'd make a great collectibles and investment, but you wouldn't want to shoot them, even dry fire would be out.   Also sadly, is they are auctioning them separately.  Hate for them to be split up.  Anybody got $10K to loan me?

Now if you happen to have a a cool $500,000 just laying around.  How about a Historic Presentation Cased Factory Engraved Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver Inscribed to Latter Day Saint Leader and Utah Territory Governor Brigham Young

I forgot to tell yous guys.  I'm sure you tire of hearing about the auctions.  RIA has a big one this weekend and I kinda of poo-poo it because there wasn't but one lot I bid on.

BUT IF YOU HURRY, there's this M151 for sale and you can probably get it for ~$4,000.  A lot cheaper than a 60's Karmen Ghia or a VW Pickup.

Oh, didn't you know?  An M151 is a  AM General Corp 4x4 Utility Vehicle.  Better known as a Jeep.

I'd repaint the "Island Time" logo, but hey, they haven't made these in 30 years.   Great for parades.    Mount an M2 on the back.

I used to strip these in a morning and put all the parts onto a new uni body in a day.
They came from the factory painted in pink primer, we had our own paint shop.
A 50 cal on one of these would flip it.
4 guys could pick one up and carry it.
M-60's were pretty common,  or a TOW launcher.
The one shown is not street legal since it lacks the roll bar they were required to add inthe80's.

If that's not rich enough for you.  Pistol fans will jump at this:

Historic Hermann Goering Presentation Walther Factory Engraved and Gold Plated PPK Semi-Automatic Pistol with Carved Grips, Personalized Ring and Cuff Links.  $300,000+  I'd bid on it, but it's in 7.65 and I don't need another caliber to keep up with.

And yes, I still check out RIAuctions.

There are a pair of S&W 629 DX models.   Given the 15% fee, I could only see my way to $750ea on these.  I've really wanted to upgrade my 629 to a DX style.   f I win I'll be selling both my current -1 in 8-3/8" and the one that comes with this lot. Just keeping the 6" one.

About 20 items in the 6 digits.  Including an Engraved Winchester Deluxe Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle owned by Captain Jack Crawford and then Gifted to Fellow Western Scout and Poet James Barton Adams  Also a Winchester Deluxe Model 1895 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine Presented by Buffalo Bill (William F. Cody) to Deadwood Businessman and Friend M.R. "Gold Nugget Mike/Deadwood Mike" Russell with Factory Letter.   Documentation provided in both cases.

About the cheapest lot is a Colt New Service Double Action Revolver, Documented Shipped to New York's Sing Sing Prison.   Under $800.

And, I'm back.

Upcoming RIA action in 2 weeks, is pretty run-of-the-mill.   The highest priced items are Henry, New Haven and Winchester lever actions.

Of course, in case you're wondering, for my retirement party you guys can get me a pair of High Standard Crusaders.   Just such a pair are up for auction.   Matching s/n's.  Of course one is 44M and the other 45LC.

I picked out 5 lots I was interested in.   Two of them contained Camp Carbines and the other 3 had S&W revolvers.   I checked to see what the pre-bids were over at ProxiBid and decided they wanted too much money.

I did however find Jeff Dobson Auctions in NW GA had a S&W M66 (no-dash w/ stainless rear sight) up for auction and I put down $400.  Silly me.  There's 18% bidder fee plus the sales tax.  But I also bid $160 on a 10/22.  I've wanted a beater to rebuild, for a while.  Maybe this will be it.

The Rogak P-18 is supposed to be one of the worst pistols ever made. The parts were so far out of spec that the gas system didn't even work and it was blow-back operated.
Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions

Lost out in the local auction.  The 10/22 went for $190.   Duh.  FOLKS! Brand new ones are on sale for $199! With The buyer premium it actually cost the buyer $220.  And the S&W M66 went for $690.   Yes it's a first run edition for that model but it's not worth that much.

I'll put some perfunctory bids down at RIA to maintain my buyer status.  I do like the free catalogs they send.

Title: Re: Upcoming Auctions
Post by: Big Frank on June 11, 2017, 10:38:26 PM
I got my 10/22 so long ago that brand new it was somewhere around $63 and change IIRC. Maybe around $70, and it came with a real walnut stock. Now used stocks sell online for more than what the whole gun cost me. If I was to buy a 10/22 at auction I hope I would have sense enough not to pay the new gun price for a used gun.

I went to an estate auction once and bid on a couple of rifles. I remember one being an HK91. There may have been one with a retractable stock and one with a fixed stock but it's been so long I can't remember. They went for a lot more than I was willing to pay. I got a touch of auction fever and bought some 5.56 NATO ammo for more than I should have. Some was Israeli M193 and some was Chinese FMJ. The Chinese ammo jammed pretty bad in my Beta C-Mag in one of my AR15s and I haven't tried the Israeli ammo in it. It all needs to be shot up. The tips of the bullets dragged in the C-Mag but IIRC it worked in GI 30-round mags.

RIA Premiere auction going on this weekend.  All "collectible" so no multi-gun lots.   Mostly expensive stuff.  Colt snakes, high end shotguns, etc.  But I found what I want.

That's out of my league too but it reminds me of something. The semi-auto Uzi carbine they used to make with a 16 inch barrel was only 24 inches long overall with the stock folded. The state of Michigan specifically names it as not being a legal firearm here, but how was that non-NFA legal anywhere? Couldn't it fire with the stock folded putting in the same class as a SBR?

Reminds me of when my sister called a few years ago and asked whether with her new smart phone it needed to be totally discharged every week or not.   I told her the logic of charging Li-Ion batteries was so far beyond Ni-Cads and so complex it was not capable of mortal comprehension.    Same with some of the

The 1919A4 looked great.  That M16A1 was starting too high in my opinion at $18k unless there is something special about it.   I can't believe how high that Ingram is starting at.  My Class III dealer used to get them by the boxful around $200 each.  If I had only known.

Among collections being sold are, Mac McCroskie, Joe Marlin Hilliard, Dr. Robert Beeman, Jim Supica, Baily Brower Jr., the Don & Carol Wilkerson Collection and  the Putnam Green Collection.  Not sure is Tom Selleck has anything in this particular auction or not.

From what I have seen of his collection, there are MANY others he has, as far as I know. Most notable is the Sharps from Quigly Down Under. I have also seen a few others from movies. Need to remember that he is not a young man anymore, and probably downsizing. Could also be some donations being made.
