Got a Mosin Nagant Laminate 91/30 for my birthday. Shot it a little (and received some bruising love back) - and this thing is the greatest!

Fun (i.e. cheap) to shoot and with loads of history behind them. I like my 1942 Izhevsk a lot.
-
Ya got the pig sticker too!
Good times, enjoy your new toy!
;)

Nothing, pound for pound(ing),...compares to a Moisin. Although I have noticed ammo creeping up slightly,.... :-\

I enjoy my 1943, and the bruising.... ;D (Between the Moisin and my Mausers, I'm a glutton for punishment)...
There are some great vids on youtube for some Flitz and fluffing, buffing and otherwise really making the action smooth.
It really made a difference in cycling the bolt in mine.
Thumping round, good for anything in North America on two or four legs. Plus, it can be used to pole vault hedgerows in a pinch.
Enjoy it!!! The darn thing, with routine care, will last another 100 years. Even corrosive, milsurp ammo, if cleaned promptly, is no issue.
Congratulations.

The next time you're in Bulgaria, you can dig up a cleaning kit somewhere too!
-
Go with the "Light Ball" ammo, it won't beat you up so bad.
-
Not sure if ya'll care but she's got all matching numbers:

**Sorry, couldn't help myself in a moment of weakness. ;)

From what I understand talking to a local M-N enthusiast, matching numbers doesn't mean a whole lot with respect to the arsenal rebuilt guns like we now enjoy here in the States. Apparently the miscellaneous parts were stamped to match the number on the barrel. Not that it matters. I doubt there will ever be a collector's market for ones with import stamps. These guns are meant to shoot.

Hi;
I have 7 Mosins so far. 3 sighted in and 4 to be sighted in ( no time to get to the range ). In another forum is a section on up to 10 Mosins is Mosinitis, after 10 it becomes an obsession. I am slowly working on the obsession part ! Cheap in price, easy to strip down and clean up, cheap to shoot, can be used for hunting, "plinking" and home defence. Worth every penny !

I could have bought an AR.

I could have bought an AR.
Or an FNAR since we don't want to compare vodka with whiskey.

The factory shipping department

A monthly group buy with a local gun/ammo shop has "power buys" RSVP'd once a month. They did a Moisin buy some months back, and want to do another.
I have a 1943 round receiver 91/30, and wouldn't mind a hex for the money. Just to have one of each,.... 8)
-
Agreed, but also want an M44
-
M44s are getting hard to find. I have a 91/59 that's a real flame thrower at dusk. It always draws a crowd.

Nothing wrong with keeping a "well armed militia" armed on the cheap..... ::)

Great prices on stuff, EXCEPT the M1 Garand D,....$2595.00?????
Really?
CMP Has them at $1500-$1800 with proper scope, and bayonet.
Good find though, thanks..

Very true. And they work. Take your average inner city neighborhood watch, pass these out with the bake sale money, and watch your gang problem go away (one way or the other). ;)

The M44 was the Carbine WITH a bayonet.
What was the earlier carbine without a bayo ? Was it the M41 ?
If I recall it was basically a standard M-N cut down.

M38
I had one but I sold it. I also regret cutting down an M44 now knowing what they are going for although it makes a good scout rifle with 17" barrel.

You don't have to go that far back to find them for even less.

While I prefer the full-size 91/30 from a shooter's perspective, I really shoulda bought at least one M44 when they were south of $60. Sad to say, it wasn't that long ago.

2 M44's were my first ever Mosin purchases. One of them has remained untouched since I bought it and the other one is no longer recognizable as an M44 which I regret. I didn't think they would ever be worth anything, boy was I wrong but at least I still have one that hasn't been buggered.
-
David, funny you noted the condition of your M44's. When they were still cheap I toyed with the idea of buying one to minimally sporterize. Ditch the pigsticker, add conventional sling studs, maybe add a Mojo rear sight. That sort of thing. I figured it would make a good loaner/backup rifle during deer season. Not a bad trunk gun either. But by the time I seriously considered the project, M44's were gone. Now that they're back at $200+ it doesn't make any sense.
-
$200 + is still more oomph for less cash than an SKS.

My butchered and my original M44's. It looks different today than what is pictured. I didn't like the scope mount and I have it in a different stock,

How was it turning down the bolt handle?

The bolt in the previous post is an ATI conversion kit that I did and I don't like it. Since then I have had a guy in Utah do some for me as shown in these pictures. I sent him one to do so I could check his quality and it was top notch so I sent him 5 more to do and they were not the same quality workmanship as the first one, almost as if someone else had done them. I would not give him anymore business.
Also included pics of a 91/30 that I sold a friend of mine and he added the Jmeck scope mount.

Where did you get the stocks from. I'd like to put another accessory on my MN that's worth more than the rifle.

A good leather sling will fill that criteria! ;D

Already done! ;)

Bought my first one in Munich Germany around 1989. Paid 188 DM without the VAT (about $88). It was a NIB 1953 Polish M44 with German proofs. Then I imported it into the US. Second one is a M1891 that was cut down into a Scout Rifle. This one was made by Tula in 1904. Barrel is about 17.5" and ported. Orginally had a Bushnell Phantom 3x scope but it didn't hold up. Since mounted the NCStar red dot and some krylon paint. Rifle only cost me $40.
