Yup!

Many of those old films are like that. Sometimes it appears as if they are acting it like they would on stage instead of film, so it comes off as over exaggerated.

Back in that era, even in the mid to late 50's, these actors were almost all, especially the leads, involved in stage. Imagine what it must have been like to film a movie, and work it out with your cast being tied to stage productions that would run for months and never in sync with each other.

I thought this thread would be political. Not. Even. Close. :-[

Produced in 1956 for only $12,000,000 bucks...
Times have changed!

With some use of Google, here is how that translates:
$12 million in 1956 = $115 million in 2020
The Irishman (#3 movie last year = $159 million production budget
It appears to me that Hollywood is doing a pretty good job of staying ahead of inflation.

But Heston trumps De Niro all day long... I will not watch another De Niro flick again!

Wouldn't it be a shame if the biggest loser and slowest comeback from this current situation was Hollywood.
Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if the elite experts that know what is best for us had to tighten their little belts a little.
Here is something I keep forgetting, because it is fairly well kept in the dark. There is a charitable organization, that collects funds from fund raisers and direct appeals to the public, that is designed to help actors and actresses who have fallen on tough times. Wouldn't you think that these people who command high salaries for their work, hold net worth of seven, eight and nine figures, and live in hotels called houses, drive luxury every thing, and own or fly in private jets could pony up to help those who are a part of their own gang? Especially the stuntmen who sacrifice their bodies and then live in a wheelchair, just to make the pretty boy look tough and manly.

Same here, Tim.
Not that he was anywhere near a favorite of mine anyway, I did like a few movies he was in.
De Nutso was one of those guys who somehow (I guess based on all the tough guy roles) got caught up in the hype of the public's skewed opinion that he was somehow just as tough as the roles he played. I've read several commentaries that say in actuality he is a sniveling little guy who is mean to the people who work for him and has a powerful "little man" complex (to the point of wearing platform shoes to look taller).

They are paid entertainers. Paid Jesters. Their opinions hold no value what so ever. Those that do allow value to their statements are doomed to literally be lead by fools. Having said that there are a few that do have good sense but they are drummed out and overshadowed by the fools.

What's funny is that 150 years ago, actors were akin to second class citizens considered on the level of gypsies (no offense meant to the Gypsies).

Oh, so do I. But so many in this world see them as near royalty....or else so many of them wouldn't be making millions to pretend.

Paid entertainers and jesters. Nothing more.
