The newly elected Republicans are now officially on the clock so what do we want as a gun culture and which house rep and senator do we have push this?
-
Don't look to me for help, because Minnesota is so blue we are lucky to even be able to use the word firearm at a slight whisper.
By the way, did you hear Boehner today and his speech about "disagree without being disagreeable."? The radio station I had on that broadcast that little bite followed it with a quote from Pres. BHO that anything moving the Keystone Pipeline forward will be vetoed at his desk. I see a lot of nothing except fodder for the talking heads to use to churn us up.
-
Gowdey and a few other the other REAL Republicans should take Boner out and water board him.

In your car...with the windows rolled up...and only if all tires are off pavement.
-
I predict a repeat of the 90's, Government slows the rate of decay but it still continues! More Progressive Agenda and less progress.
-

It would be a waste of water. Just choke the living shit outta that useless waste of skin.
-
Are you talking about Trey Gowdy from SC? Is he the go-to guy for pro gun legislation? IF so, then what do you want? List it off. Here's some thoughts:
- Allow for the reimportation of all American surplus arms to be sold through CMP.
Allow for the sale of surplus military pistols through CMP and other means (ala police turn ins)
50 state and all territory reciprocity for carry permits. (If the push for a "universal" training/testing model, make it copy the most lenient. [Alaska?])
No tax stamp for SBR, AOW, or suppressors
Have him craft the bill for this and add it to the next spending bill. (You know they're gonna pass that anyway.)
So what do YOU want?

If I have to join a CMP club then I'd rather they just sold them at the LGS.
CMP is nice but doesn't help someone that only shoots pistol and shotgun competitions.
-
What do I want ?
Repeal Clinton's "Omnibus crime bill
" " GCA '68
" " NFA,
I'm willing to compromise, and allow them to keep a reopened machine gun registry.
Close the borders
Deport all illegal aliens
Eliminate the business tax
repeal or cripple Obamacare
Cut congressional pay 10%
Register Muslims
Allow cops to machinegun rioters.
There are more specifics, but it's to early to think hard.

Kmitch, USPSA membership qualifies you.

I thought NRA membership did as well.

How about we simply eliminate the need for CCW Permits in the first place, and just go to Universal Constitutional Carry. You know, like the Constitution clearly allows.
-

If only I was a member of USPSA then I'd be GTG!
A State R&P Assc would be a good route if I was in the market for a M1.
Probably should have done it 20 yrs ago when I still had 20/15 eyesight. :P

Ok. So let's get a list of what we want finalized and start sharing it with other gun groups. (Handing out copies to people at SHOT wouldn't be a bad idea either.)
-
Repeal a gun law....any gun law. Just to show it can be done. Start with the '86 ban on fullautos.
Pull silencers off the NFA list.
Pull SBS & SBR off the NFA list.
Dump the USPS ban on personal weapons on premises.
Dump the weapons ban on federal property unless there are metal detectors and available locked storage is provided.
-
how about no new laws and enforce all the ones on the books....
-
No new laws. Get rid of some old ones.
-
So this is what I'm seeing:
National Constitutional carry (if not then National reciprocity for concealed carry using the Florida model)
Allow the shipping of firearms through the USPS
Allow for the reimporting of all US Surplus firearms
Allow the CMP to sell military surplus handguns.
Allow the military to sell surplus M-16s to those who pay the tax stamp
Allow the military to modify 50% of the surplus M-16s to semi-auto only and sell them through distributors or those with C&R licenses (for firearms of the right age, of course)
Move suppressors to the AOW list
Install and enforce high/strong penalties for airports, bus stations, or cities that disregard the federal firearm transportation law.
Install lock boxes in all federal buildings so anyone carrying can secure their firearm before going through security. (No charge for the use, of course)
Ban the idea of microstamping
All existing gun ranges are exempt from any noise ordinances and so called lead/heavy metal pollution.
Doubling the amount of gun ranges in five years. Tripling it in ten.
Sounds like a good start.
So who's going to SHOT?
-
how about no new laws and enforce all the ones on the books....
This won't change anything, because even when the admit they are lax on enforcement they can make it look like they are trying, and then they spend more money.
-
I would like to see National Constitutional Carry, but would settle for full reciprocity, just like we have with driving and marrying.
Use driver's license to communicate legal ability to obtain firearms - Today licenses show if a person's driving privileges are restricted or revoked, and this could be done for disqualifying actions concerning firearms. This wouldn't change any sales and purchase laws except that private citizens would know if they can legally sell to someone. This would also negate NICS.
Since the Second Amendment is protection of a Civil Right, business and organizations who invite you to their establishments or events can not ban firearms with rare exceptions (no metal around MRI, etc.).
These are just a few of what I would like to see, but more here than those we elected are capable of working through.
-
So who's going to SHOT?
This years SHOT show prohibits CCW.

Pretty standard for all the major shows and events. It is a combination of lawyers and insurance, along with contract agreements with event centers and security. Every industry show I have participated in in Las Vegas has banned carry. It often appears to be an industry thing, but when you read the exhibitor forms you will come across evidence of other issues.
Sadly, we live in a culture where when you reach a certain size you must either accept some things while you continue to fight for the greater good.
Are you aware that not only the NRA, but many other educational organizations, ban carry of firearms in their classes? Some by the students and some by everybody. I haven't dug into them all, but with the NRA it is based off liability - Lawsuits brought by attendees and insurance company rules. And sadly, as instructors we have brought this on ourselves. We have allowed students to shoot each other, shoot us, and we have shot ourselves and our students.
Utopia does not exist, so let's not cannibalize ourselves over little things and destroy our larger efforts.
-
If you tolerate it you deserve it.
Having your rights infringed by groups that are paid to defend that very right is not a little thing.
If you are OK being a peasant I guess that's your business.
-
Then you go ahead and be the Lone Ranger Tom! I choose to deal with the limitations our organizations are faced with to keep the fight moving forward. If we abandon NSSF and NRA because the are forced to deal with things we will have nothing in short order.
-
Then you go ahead and be the Lone Ranger Tom!
By all means.
I'm sure your internet bravado will go far in changing the policies of exhibit halls across the country. ::)
-
Just because you lack the courage to stand up doesn't mean the rest of us are cowards as well. If there are no manned metal detectors there's no "Gun free" zone.
Like I said, you tolerate, you deserve it. now shut up and get on the cattle car.
As for "internet bravado", I censor on line some things that I say in public. Posts can be used against you in court.
-
Carrying undetected in a no gun zone is not making a statement Tom. Most of us do that. My question is how to propose to change our national climate if you boycott and abandon our major organizations, as you suggest we all must do to be free.

The same way we put pressure on our "representatives". Write letters, make the phone calls. Talk to the manufacturers and distributors. Tell them to practice the activities that they encourage us to buy their products for. Walk the walk, as it were.
Our voices, combined with theirs shut down the Eastern Sports Show because of the venues nonsense. It works. But we, as the consumers have to be the ones to put the pressure on.
-
If you cut their money they will listen.
But I can't do anything alone.
I'm forced to work with a population that will tolerate anything as long as it doesn't make them miss "Dancing with the Stars".
-
DWTS is off the air right now between seasons, Tom.....It's American Idiot they're watching now!
-
"Reality TV" ::)
-
"Reality TV" ::)
Sadly it's closer to reality than watching the news most of the time.
-
The list is way to work together and change things. Copy it. Pass it around. Post it on Facebook. Send it to your senators. Have people sign it as a petition at gun stores. Getting people to talk is the first step. Let's het stepping. (I shared it on Facebook and e-mailed different podcasters.)

But if we cut the pro-gun groups money, it is like increasing the anti's money.
-
But if we cut the pro-gun groups money, it is like increasing the anti's money.
Maybe, but how can you justify sending money to a group that refuses to take a hard stand on the very thing they claim to support? I realize that I am painting with a very broad brush. But the point is still valid. If we as a gun culture cannot exercise our rights at a function essentially celebrating those very rights, then???? What? Are we saying to the antis, "We're going to hold our really big party, but we're not going to do anything that might freak you out."
I just had this argument over the weekend with an anti. (Of course she refuted my facts, got pissy and stormed out when she couldn't argue my point) My carrying a firearm makes you safer. Therefore 10,000 / 15,000 of us in Vegas all responsibly carrying firearms elevates the safety of that city exponentially.
-
Cut money to the politicians that pay us lip service, give more to the ones who really support America and the Constitution. and start filing law suits against the democrats and Bloomberg. Since we can't effect their donations we can soak up their funds by holding them responsible in court for the results of their actions.
It is a reversal of their suing gun dealers and manufacturers .
If that doesn't work then there is the "Ferguson precedent". Looting and torching their mansions is Govt approved "Peaceful protest".

You're forgetting that it is only approved if Al Sharpton ram-rods the cause.
