32 inches of penetration from the Speer 158 gr Gold Dot .357 Magnum load could cause serious issues with over-penetration.

I do know that I'm done buying Speer Short barrel for my snubby and staying with Hornady 110gr FTX Critical Defense in +p...

Amazing results in penetration, MV and consistent bullet expansion!

I may try the 110 FTX standard velocity version in my Colt Agent (not rated for +P). They made the best showing for standard rounds.

It's really a very comprehensive study.  The pics of bullets and expansion are phenomenal.

Mr LCR is rated for .38+p so I'm digging my Hornady out o the ammo closet..

None of the heavyweight Gold Dots seemed to expand that well. At least in .38 / .357.

I thought the whole idea behind Gold Dots was that they were supposed to have quick reliable expansion but the results show otherwise. Maybe I misunderstood but that's what I thought.

The 135 Gr. Gold Dots performed all but perfectly in the 2" and 4" .357's. It's the heavier 158 grains that don't expand. And over penetrate as a result. I'm wondering if the nose cavity is getting packed up with flannel, or whatever cloth they're using? And as a result they're working like FMJ's.

The Remington 125 Gr. Semi Jacketed Hollow Point's are still one of the best in a 2", .357.

Looks like those hydra shoks in the safe are going down range on paper.

The Gold Dot was disappointing as well.  Luckily the fresh ammo I've been getting is the Critical Defense and it looks OK.  I also have some Golden Sabre for the 10MM...

I was happy to see the Ranger ammo did well...that used to be known as the evil bullet...Talon I think.

Heck, then I went and looked at the 9MM test...things are a bit different the Gold Dot rebounded.  The Corbon DXP which I still have some of looks very good to me along with +P Golden Sabre.  The Critical Defense dropped down too.

I took a look at the .380 ACP and .45 ACP too. A few of the .45 loads had very consistent penetration in the 12-18 " range. The 230 gr JHP - Winchester Ranger T-Series had a full 1" average diameter. More than 2X expansion. Impressive.

Went and bought a box of the 110gr Critical Defense standard velocity in .38 spl today.
I don't carry or shoot the Agent much, but it comes in handy as a BUG or those times when pocket carry is necessary.

I carry gold dot +p in my colt detective.    I am going too have to send this to a friend of mine that always gives me shit when I carry the 38 and not the 45 or the 10 mm.

I keep telling him, I don't want to be in the 1st 6 guys that come after me.
