What a cute little bundle of pup.

And another really good thing is before the year is out you can contribute to the economy by replacing all the wall-to-wall and throw rugs in the house.

Only dog I could never housebreak was a terrier.

Enjoy,

Crusader Rabbit

Crusader Rabbit

Especially the tiny miniature Yorkies. They are very high strung, and scare easily. And when they do, their first reaction is to pee wherever they happen to be standing. And their tiny little bladders don't hold much, and they require frequent trips to relive themselves. But they are cute as hell!

I cannot show this to the missus!  She wants another little cuddly dog now.  Buying one of those would get into my gun money!

No need to "buy one". Sadly, pounds and shelters are full of these type of great, loyal dogs just waiting for someone. There are many small breeds that are, "cute and cuddly", but are not difficult to housebreak. Cody is the first small breed dog we have ever had. He was a stray that came to us. He was not housebroken, and was a complete dirty, matted mess when he came to our house. I was getting ready to get into my truck, when he tried to jump in with me.

We adopted him, and he housebroke in just a few days. He never has "accidents", and he is the best dog we have ever had. I was still working when we found him. But now that we're both retired he gets all the attention he could possibly want. The shelter we took him to, (and adopted him from 10 days later, after no one claimed him), said that he was probably dumped on the street. And had we not took him in, he most likely would have been hit by a car.

He is a mixed breed, and the vet thinks he is a mixture of Dachshund, Poodle, and Havanese. With perhaps some Terrier thrown in for good measure. I never had a dog become such a big part of my life. He even sleeps in our bed with us every night.

.

Since my wife is disabled, we're paper training her first.

Day two and she's only had one accident.  This is our second Yorkie and the first was no problem at all.  He lasted 13 years!

She'll be on the 4-5 lb range.  Not a "teacup" but below the breed standard.  We looked for a rescue for six months and with the exception of chihuahuas, small dogs aren't easy to find.

My daughters bff MIL just had a litter of six, we lucked into the last female.

I'd still prefer a Labrador but we needed to keep it small again.

I'm with FBG.   Doesn't matter how much or little the purchase price is, it's the upkeep that'll deplete the gun money.

No doubt but the joy of having one pup in the house outweighs my need for more guns!

Gasp!!!  Did I just say that ??? ???

We've already two.  A Jack Russell, and a Cocker/Shi-Tzu mix.  Maybe a another grandchild would do the trick!

That's why they're "butterfly" dogs!

Never had one but they're a good hearty lil dog as I recall!

Day nine..,

Gracie has not had an accident in the last week.  She already knows "come" & "sit" commands with a bit of a kibble!

So far, so good!

Training the wife might take longer...

She's a cute little thing. Several years ago I got a dog for my wife. It was the best trade I ever made. He was an old dog and wasn't with me long enough. I think he died in 2009. I still hiss him.

That goes in the milk bottle till it's full.  Holds just over a hundred bucks in loose change...

I think I found some money in the washer or dryer once when I was a teenager. Since then I've learned to empty my pockets. People on another forum were talking about finding money in the dryer. They acted like it was free money or they were somehow lucky finding it. I didn't say anything but wondered why they didn't empty their pockets before they took their dirty clothes off. You guys are laundering money.  ;)  On topic, cherish your dogs for as long as you have them.

y.  ;)  On topic, cherish your dogs for as long as you have them.

I own cats. All pets are only loaned to us for a limited time by God above. While their love is unlimited, their allotted time to share it is controlled by God. You are indeed correct. CHERISH them as long as you can. I just had to put down one of our cats, the second in a year. It is one of the hardest things I have had to do. It is one of the saddest things as well.

Cherish them every day as their time, as is our time, is limited.

I personally hate cats but understand what it's like to love your pets deeply. They become part of the family. You hate to see them go but sometimes it's cruel to keep them alive for your sake. Losing two in one year would be unbearable. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel. Hang in there.

It isn’t the size of the mutt but the character!  She’s a terrier at heart and feisty as hell!  Where you live she’s just eagle bait...

I’ve had all kinds of dogs, if a 5-7 lb pound mutt is all I can have then it’s better than nothing!

She fetches like a pro already, sits, poops where she needs to and keeps my wife company..

I'd rather have a dog that can walk through the woods without disappearing in the grass and leaves, but I guess a tiny little dog is better than no dog at all. And if the dog gets tired of walking just stick it in your pocket.   ;)

Teacups are a mistake and should not be encouraged!

They’re deliberately bred smaller than the breed standard which leads to a myriad of health problems.

Yorkies are small enuf at 7 to 10 pounds...

A lot of purebreds have more problems than the average mutt. Things like:

Aortic stenosis
Dilated cardiomyopathy
Elbow dysplasia
IVDD (InterVertebral Disk Disease)
Hypoadrenocorticism
Atopy/allergic dermatitis
Bloat
Cataracts
Epilepsy
Portosystemic shunt

Mutts are the best. I wouldn't want to own any kind of dog other than a mutt.

Wifey has allergy’s.  Yorkies and poodles are somewhat hypoallergenic breeds.

We got this one from a family, not a breeder, so we’re hoping she’s healthy.

I hope so too. And as far as I'm concerned breeders can go breed themselves!

We're lucky with the wife's chosen dog breed.  They live 15 or so years.

Maybe we're not so lucky....  :o
