O.K. It was a hot freakin' swamp..Literally, as the range is in the Everglades... :P It was a scorcher day but well worth it.
Not just my Garand was run through its paces, but a Universal M1 Carbine, and a Springfield M1-A.
The Garand performed flawlessly with Federal 150gr. SP ammo from Wally-World. Kudos to m25 for the 10 click recommendation on the rear sight. It was spot on!!!!

Very first shot was on a helpless 1gallon water jug at 107 yds.....

It EXPLODED,(the water jug) and made a beautiful plume..... ;D Trigger is solid, light, and surprisingly very short. Extremely stable, and recoil was a soft shove. It literally hit everything that was aimed at.
Not one issue at all.
Than a friends father's Universal M1 Carbine that had not been fired for 30 years was run.

One light strike out of 200 rds. It was like a baby-doll. It is a whiz-bang lightweight carbine that was a pleasure to shoot.
Our friend Jim brought his Springfield M1-A with new scope and outside of being a heavy bast***, was spot on and a beast. Very nice trigger.

My son really likes this rifle.....than again,....so do I.... ::)

Helped a friend get his PTR-91 in .308/ 7.62x51, sighted in, and really enjoyed this rifle. Recoil was worse than I expected and the only setback.

Was it darn hot? YES!
Was it worth every minute? HECK YES!!!
Fellow member is hooking me up with some extra M1 ammo at a decent price also.
My son is still cleaning the rifles.
Union rules say I have to feed him, and allow for breaks,....I guess I can do that... ;)
I'm jumping back in my pool now, as the range got me tuckered,...... 8)

Went to the range today and some 600yd shooting went on.....wasn't too bad in the shade, but to shoot prone, everyone was out in the sun. One of the guys brought out his IR thermometer and shot the shooting mats and they were running 110+. It didn't take long to wrap that business up and get back under the awning to the tables.
Thank goodness for the ice machine in the clubhouse. ;D

How did the PTR run? What kind of ammo did you feed it, etc? I'm thinking about one, but I've never fired one. I've heard they are much less finicky about ammo than Springfield M1-A's are. Just trying to get some info on them. Bill T.

A Garand is my next must have weapon. So far I have been stocking up on the web ammo belts and ammo. There are some places that sell new 8 rd clips that are not mil spec. They usually sell for a pack of 10 for $10. If you come across any of these and use them - give a post on how well they work out. I have @ 30 of these and currently can not try them out.

Ran great on everything BUT American Eagle .308 Did not want to cycle. Perfectly capable of combat accuracy, but it doesn't need a scope, it's not really a "tack driver". Recoil is hard, but I'd probably get an FAL like deepwaters instead. I think the M1-A's get finicky with mags that are not perfect. It's still just a bottom fed Garand bolt.

You have too many and need to send me 5... ;) I purchased new en bloc 8-rd clips from Numrich, link for great stuff for the Garand. They were $1.25 a piece. They are new, and mil-spec. I had no loading or ejecting issues.

My mom has a photo of my dad in Korea with his Garand and it has 6 lines cut in the stock. When I asked dad what the lines ment he said they were just scratches. Later after dad passed mom said they were confirms. Dad just didn't want to talk about it. I'm 46 and I miss him like crazy. I'll get a deal on one some day, I hope soon.

The wife asked me once if things got tight, would I sell my guns. I told her there are only two guns I will not part with, my M1 Garand and my Auto-Ordnance 1911A1. (That I have slicked up to where it feeds empty cases.)
Love that M1. I have fired it until the linseed oil is bubbling out of the stock, and it keeps putting them in the same place.
