im in between a xd or xdm 9mm. i like the idea of the higher capacity on the xdm, but the xd service is smaller(i.e. easier to conceal). what are your opinions on how well the xdm can be concealed.
-
if concealed carry is your primary concern, then go with the XD or wait until they come out with a smaller XDM
-
Size has darn little to do with concealability if you carry IWB . all you have to cover is the grip, the rest of it is inside your pants.
-
do they make a iwb that sits real low to help conceal the grip

Old Charlie carries a 1911
-
you don't have to pull the triger to take apart the xdm... so it gets my vote.
-
I've been waiting for word on the XDM subcompact and can't get anyone to even answer e-mails let alone my question. I would go with the XD and check the M if and when it comes out. If you can find anything out more power to ya and make sure you post what you find out and also what you decide.

i will, thanks

What feels best......shoot best.......for you?
Though I don't have particularly small hands, I find the larger grips, like the 92, just don't allow me to get enough grip. I prefer something I'm comfortable shooting over the added capacity.

I've got an XDM9 and I can say it's a fun gun that shoots good but I haven't thought of ccw with it. Also after the initial fun factor wore off, it's sat locked up.

Man do I love my M+P!!!

The XDM has the interchangeable back-straps and a match grade barrel. However, as mentioned, the size options are limited. There is also an issue with supply. The XD is readily available but many dealers have very limited stock of the XDM.

If its the 26, buy and buy now, IF you like the grip. Its about $25-$50 below market and a great shooter.

Fixed it for ya. ;)
I think very highly of the Glock 26 (sub compact 9mm). Its my everyday CCW and it is by far the best of any of the Glocks out there. Its uber reliable and very concealable.
My Review here:

$500 is a very far price..... if you search hard enough you might be able to get one for as low as $450, but the most common price point you will see these at is $500-$550.

Tom is exactly right, I have carried a full size 1911 for several years now and have had no problems with concealment as long as the right holster is used. Mine is here.....http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=61. I have one of these for my new to me XD45 Tactical ;D as well, and I am quite happy with the concealability of this set-up.
But most important, always remember to dress around the gun, don't select the gun due to the way you dress.

thanks guys for the info

Springfield Armory has just released an XD(M) with a 3.8 inch barrel. They have it up on their website now. It should be very comparable in size to the regular XD 4" service model, although I think the grip is just a slight bit longer.
Springfield seems to release stuff without preamble sometimes. I wonder what they will have at shot show this year.

I dont think the XDM would be any better than the standard XD. At bad breathe distances the match barrel wont make a bit differnce. The only thing that makes the XDM stand out is the mag capacity. The XD sub .40 cal is next on my list, right now I carry G26 thats been abused to no end.
-
xdm is now out with a 3.8 inch barrel. It was just listed on springfield armory web site.

*They actually put 3.8 on the side of the slide......... YUCK! :(

Is that the same as the XD sub-compact barrel length?
Glad to hear they finally went and done it...been waiting seem like forever!

XD Subcompact has 3" barrel.
Standard XDm has a 4.5" barrel.

FIRST FORGIVE THE ALL CAPS AS I SOMEHOW MANAGED TO SWITCH THE DAMN THING ON AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO STOP IT. SECONDLY, I REALLY THINK YOUR DILEMNA IS SELF IMPOSED. DO NOT CHOOSE A BRAND, CHOOSE WHAT FEELS GOOD TO YOU AND IS A CONCEALBLE SIZE. YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THREE THINGS;
1) WILL IT GO BANG EVERY TIME?
2) IS IT SMALL ENOUGH TO CONCEAL IN CLOTHES YOU WEAR EVERY DAY?
3) IS IT ENOUGH GUN FOR THE JOB?
THERE ARE A RANGE OF BRANDS AND CALIBERS OUT THERE. FIND A RANGE THAT RENTS AND PLAY WITH THEM. THEN MAKE YOUR CALL.

Spilled wine and peanut butter in the 'caps lock' key again? ;D

Thanks for the info...guess I'll have to continue to wait. Damn!

I don't have those keys as I'm writing on borrowed 13" noteook. I have figured the darn thing out though. No more caps from me. Sorry for the earlier screwup.

XD Subcompact has 3" barrel.
Standard XDm has a 4.5" barrel.
You are WRONG, the new one is 3.8 inches, because that was the length they needed for reliability.

There are some relatively minor differences between XD and XDM. Part of the price difference is in the improved trigger and match grade barrel. Quite frankly....disregard both of those. Ask yourself if the price difference is worth the extra couple rounds and the extra safety feature in the disassembly process.
My personal preference now (after owning an XDm) would be to buy the XD in the compact size and put a Powder River trigger kit in it. You will then have about the same amount in the gun and the trigger will be absolutely perfect. Even if you do buy an XDm, you will still want a trigger kit as the difference in the before and after is tremendous.
As for not having to pull the trigger to take it apart.....well lets just say that if you are following proper safety guidelines then it is not a deal breaker. You should always be checking and triple checking anyway.

I know the lengths, I own both. You are right, they have added the 3.8 length. Standard XDm is 4.5.
