I don't know where to put this topic in the cafe or the tactical carbine section. But anyway, I recently finished assembling a AR-15 with a POF gas piston upper. And a buddy at the range was telling me good luck with carrier tilt. After some poking around the net, some guys at ar15.com are saying its not worth it for a GP AR, citing stuff in image 1 occurs.

Image 1: effects of carrier tilt
Dose anybody know if this is true or not?

Newer piston kits now come with a modified carriers that rids the problem of carrier tilt during cycling. The problem stems from the use stock carriers, the op rod hits the carrier key with enough downward force makes them slap against the buffer tube.

I'm not seeing this on either one of my LWRC piston rifles. Like anything else, there are piston guns, and then there are guns that were designed as piston guns. I would beware of a lot of these cheaper conversion kits. If you want a piston rifle, go with a gun that was designed that way, not converted. LWRC or the new Ruger SR-556 come to mind. Bill T.

Yes, carrier tilt can be a problem, but without going into too much detail, your POF will be fine.
The POF piston design eliminates carrier tilt (as does the LWRC and several other designs) through changes in the Bolt Carrier and the positioning of the gas key on the BC.
Your POF is a very good system. It will serve you well.

Good point, and just to add, POF makes all of Bushmasters piston guns. So basically if you buy a Bushy, you're getting a POF. Bill T.

I've gotta dig mine out and check how it looks, but am I the only one thinking the rifle in the picture is assembled wrong? I thought there was a notch in the tube for that spring loaded pin? :-\

My DPMS:

Maybe just brand dependent. :-\

Never noticed any notch in any of mine.

No notch on my Colt.

No notch on my Colt or DPMS. None on M16A1s either.

Yes, the notch is a difference in the brand of buffer tubes. It's not an OEM standard.
