KANSAS CITY, MO - Two Kansas City, Missouri, Police Officers have been cleared of any wrong-doing by a Jackson County Grand Jury following an investigation into shooting incident that left a suspect dead in south Kansas City last September, officials said on Wednesday.
The shooting incident was caught on police dashboard cameras.
Exae Chavez-Gutierrez, 36, of Grandview, MO, was shot and killed on September 6th after he opened fire on the officers in Isler Park near 113th and Sycamore Terrace. The officers were responding to a report of a non-injury car crash when they spotted the driver of the vehicle, Gutierrez, walking into the park.
One officer drove into the park to contact Gutierrez, and as is seen from police car dash-cams, the man suddenly turned and started firing shots at the officer. The officer fell to the ground behind his patrol car door to avoid being hit. At that time, a second officer arrived and ran to assist the first officer.
The officers soon returned fire on the suspect, who they say continued to point a gun at them even after he had been shot and fallen to the ground. The suspect died from the return shots from the officers.
Neither of the officers, who were both placed on paid administrative leave following the shooting, were injured in the incident.

I was wondering what the shot-to-hit ratio was. That was a lot of shots for them to still be asking for compliance later on. Of course the adrenalin had them amped. This video could be a good teaching tool.
Glad the officers came out un-injured and were cleared. It was clearly justifiable.

when the officer started shooting I only saw the patrol car in his view,

They survived but this is a good opportunity to get training to fix some critical mistakes.............like obviously serious lack of exercise for first guy and shooting on the move to cover for second. The end result works for me though. Bad guy DEAD=tax money well spent on ammo.

I can not believe that they had to go to court to over that to clear there names
clearly it was a case of Suicide by Copper
least the tax payers won't need for the crim to root away in gaol

BG pulls gun and starts firing, at LEO's.. Game Over.... Like advice from those here, keep shooting until the threat is over.
Glad they went home to their families. Tough freakin job.

It sounded like there was a radio call for a response team with a shotgun. Are there still cops going around without long guns in the vehicle?
-
Handguns are there for you to put their heads down till you get back to the cruiser to get a real gun.
-
I am glad the officers are alright. That perp made a choice that he was not going to be taken by the police. It looks like the one officer was hit. But the story doesnt say anything about it.
Also I am not being mean but the the Cop that looks like he is shot, is a BIG boy good thing this wasnt a running gun fight. ???

I thought the same thing, don't LEO's have to be in a certain physical shape and be able to pass a fitness test?

I guess they had the same sort of shoot out in NYC yesterday.

You are required to be physically fit to become a officer, from there it is on you.
