Title: DRTV Game Night
Post by: Texas_Bryan on December 10, 2009, 09:10:51 PM
Team,

I was finally thinking about moving forward with the DRTV Game Night for the fellow members here.  I was looking at playing F.E.A.R. Combat, a FREE multiplayer version of F.E.A.R. that's FREE.  All you need to do is make an account and download the multiplayer client and you're all set.  I'll run the dedicated game server, and Team Speak server on game day.  What I need to know is how many of you are interested, and what is the best night of the week to play on?  I'm looking at hosting this twice a month.  We would have our own password protected server and voice chat.

It's a fun game and it's all about having good time.  This is an invite to all DRTV members.

Around 9 pm Central US time.  It can be adjusted as needed.  And that's the time we would 'officially' start, people can show up and leave as they wish.  I'd start the server at 12am the day of and probably turn off around 12am the next night.

I got confused when Phil said 9pm. He's in Australia for f+#$ sake. Saturday at 9 is when I start gigs, so maybe could there be a second night?

Remember you time zones now, my nine is your ten, if you play all night that wouldn't help you though.  And any day of the week is by no means set in stone.  If we decide we like Game Night, I'd probably invest in a new server, I need an excuse to build a new machine and home info box. ;D  Right now I'd be running off my laptop, which is a screaming rig, hard wired to a two up / eight down connection.

We could do first Night of the month is one the most popular night and the second is on the next most popular.  And 'Game Night' means 9pm Central to around three or four in the morning, I don't play often, to busy making them.  If I ever build that server, it would be on twenty-four seven.

We'll get it figure out. ;)

Probably middle of the week would be best for me, but I might be able to join in at other times every once in a while if this becomes a regular thing. It would have to be after 8:30 eastern for me to get to play.

I doubt I could be a regular, but it sounds like fun.

Team,

Logistically, its all figured out.  Got a dedicated server setup for at max 32 people, along with Team Speak.  Below are the instructions to get the game and VOIP ready, I went through the process myself, its easy.

You can go to the Warner Brothers site below and register to get them to send you a game key.

Download the multiplayer client:

http://www.filefront.com/thankyou.php?f=5417592&k=0af4308da891cece1c7c9a9ce362e8788e74bf4f9979cc59b15722ac8e539254

Then you download the patch:

http://www.brothersoft.com/d.php?soft_id=292571&url=http%3A%2F%2Fusfiles.brothersoft.com%2Fgames%2Fnew%2Fgame_archives%2Fpatch%2Ffearcombat_update_en_107_108.exe

Install the client, then patch it.  It should be all automated so there's not alot to it.

Next you can download Team Speak, if you want, which will allow you to communicate with other players by voice rather than text.

It may sound like alot, but I'd bet you looking at fifteen minutes to get all that done after downloading the files.  I'll include further instruction later about joining the game and the Team Speak, we would have a password for both.  I was thinking about playing Thursday December 17th at nine PM, Central US.  Next play after that will probably be on a Saturday.  If you've got any questions or trouble getting things installed, post or PM me.

No biggie.  If you want to play then show up, if not, its cool.  It takes around fifteen minutes, is a great game, and free.

Sorry about that.  You may try turning all you setting down to minimum, then working them back up till you find a compromise.  I'm still looking for a game that I know will be safe on all machines.
