Title: Write Your Elected Officials
Post by: Thanos on December 22, 2009, 06:38:09 PM
I don't care if you voted for them or not, write them now.

Your voice could be the one that tips the scales.

I wrote to mine today about a bill in Washington.

I voted for you in the last election because I admired your willingness to stand on the street corner day after day while you were campaigning. You even said hello and asked a few questions about me while I waited for the light. You struck me as a good candidate and I feel my vote was well cast.

Now, as your constituent, I am asking you to represent my voice. It has come to my attention that three lawmakers Rep. Ross Hunter, D-Medina; Sen. Adam Kline, D-Seattle; and Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles, D-Seattle are sponsoring a bill named “Aaron Sullivan Public Safety and Police Protection Bill.”

Basically, the bill bans any gun that would look like something the military would use; the gun most commonly thought of is the AR-15 or Armalite Rifle. There are others, I am sure, that will be covered in this bill.

I ask you to vote against this bill if or when it comes to a vote. I am aware that it is proposed to save lives. It won’t. Law abiding citizens, like me, who own these types of firearms, don’t break the law. Criminals break the law and kill others; it doesn’t matter what they use, and I think you are able to see that.

Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles is quoted in Seattle Times as saying "Did the framers of our Constitution ever envision something like a semi-automatic weapon?"She used this as a premise that the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was not intended to allow civilians to have a firearm like this. I think this is ignorant and short-sighted. I can think of laser guns, rail guns and energy weapons, so yes, I could see them as thinking that a self-loading firearm would be useful. In light that two of the framers of our The Constitution were inventors, Franklin and Jefferson, I don’t think it is really that far of a stretch that they envisioned something like this.

Additionally, she wants me to have to register my gun, so at the whim of a bureaucrat it can be outlawed and then I am a criminal, as happened in California to many law abiding sportsmen. I recognize a compelling interest in public safety, but this is NOT what this law is about. Alcohol plays a far greater role as a tragedy catalyst than my firearms ever will. As you read this, the statistical likelihood that someone is driving above the legal limit somewhere in the state is probably around 100%; someone getting killed by my rifle, zero. We need to focus on laws that will actually save lives.

I am sure that the argument will be made that registration will save lives, but Canada would disagree, as the politician who created Canada's registration is now petitioning to have it repealed as a waste of 3 Billion dollars. Gun registration doesn’t save lives anymore than car registration saves pedestrians.

I ask you to craft legislation that protects society from violent criminals, not voting for a bill that punishes law abiding outdoorsmen. I ask you to vote against the Aaron Sullivan Public Safety and Police Protection Bill.

Sincerely,
******

If you don't speak up, you will get stomped down.

It's a nice sentiment but the only benefit of write my socialist supposed Reps is being able to vent.
These scum are part of the problem and do not WANT to be part of the solution.

I know, I want to smack the hell out of them too. But hey, I believe at some point they start to fear for their jobs and will so what they are told...I won't hold my breath though.

Oh, and venting is good too.

They don't care what you think.
They don't need you, or your measely vote.
They have ACORN, they have the Unions.
You're just a pain in the ass they need to scrape off the bottom of their shoe.
You're just one of the pee ons.
Learn your place and shut your face.

We don't matter.  At worst, we are an inconvience.  I appreciate your desire to make a difference and I respect you for that.

I think we have reached a point in time where writing is past.  We are no longer significant and our communications are disregarded and ridiculed.

Tom it's just like any other evil in the world. You cannot negotiate, or reason with them. Violence is the only thing that these people fear. Especially when they know it's directed at them.   :(

Always try diplomacy first, that is what my wife says. I am trying to be nicer.

My previous thoughts have always been, NUKES FIRST!
Now I wait until the talks are done or at least past the point of me being reasonable.

Diplomacy is for losers.
Diplomacy implies compromise. Compromising our rights and principles is what brought us to the point we are at now.
Diplomacy ?  I'll go to the meeting, but I'm bringing my ROPE.  ;D

I didn't say compromise, I meant talk. When no one agrees with me, force is the next option. My idea of diplomacy is letting people know what will happen if they don't do what I want.
