WYTHEVILLE, Va. – State police say a daylong standoff at a small-town Virginia post office has ended with three hostages being released and a suspect in custody.
Authorities late Wednesday ordered the suspect to let the hostages go and come out with his hands up.
Soon after, the four left the building in Wytheville (WITH-vill), including a man in a wheelchair. State police Sgt. Michael Conroy says that man is the suspect.
Earlier, state police said the man holding the hostages had entered the building pushing a wheelchair.
Conroy says authorities believe all the hostages are out. Officers are still checking the building in western Virginia.
Shots were fired earlier, but there were no reports of injuries. Relatives say the hostages have been able to contact them by phone.

Maybe they were dyslexic and thought it said "ON SNUG".
Then again, maybe those signs are no more effective than a restraining order.

They are working on a solution.
The debate is whether to go with the same number of signs but twice as large or with twice the number of signs but the same size.
They should just go with twice the signs at twice the size to be sure this never happens again

Your right Tom, that would never work. Those evil guns would corrupt the lawful CCW holder and cause them to run amok shooting everything and everyone in sight.

You are completely correct, I can be such a Rube sometimes, it's foolish to doubt the power of a sign. After all, EVERY ONE stops for "Stop" signs don't they ? (Except for the people who get slammed not stopping for them) Bing a cynic I tend to wonder whether it is the power of "the sign" or the chance of getting killed that makes folks at least slow down and look before they go. If the chance of getting killed makes people obey the law about stopping at stop signs, maybe the threat of potential death WILL work for other types of law breaking.

Maybe instead of Gun-Free Zones we should have signs for "Free Gun Zones", where they issue a gun to everyone who visits and isn't already carrying their own. ;D

Some people do not want to take responsibilty for their own safety. They think that a police man should be there in 5 seconds or less to protect them at all times and they wont have to do any dirty work.

Maybe they should hire an illegal alien like they do to take care of their Kids, house keeping laundry, lawn care and pool.
