The National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) has issued an interesting report charting gun sales by region. Southerners like handguns, and those in the Great Lakes states purchase the most shotguns by far. In 2008, southern Atlantic states led per capita in handgun purchases and also accounted for 31.4 % of all handguns bought in the United States. East north central states led per capita in shotgun purchases and accounted for 33.4 % of shotguns sold.
The Mountain states led per capita in rifle purchases and accounted for 10.7 percent of rifles sold. But the South Atlantic states’ residents buy the most rifles overall — 22% of the nationwide total. It is interesting that the Pacific states (California, Oregon, Washington) encompass 14.7% of the U.S. population, but that region accounts for only 10% of rifles and shotguns sold. On the other hand, Pacific states’ residents buy 14.2% of all handguns, the second highest figure among regions. Maybe all those crazy gun control laws in California haven’t made things any safer, and people feel the need to arm themselves.

Seems the left coast was omitted....
???
Handguns in the South East, ,.....Hmmmmm,,,,,, Would love to see an AR/ Black Rifle demographic,..
The midwest IS rifle country. Even Colorado...minus Denver....

California is in there. Probably most of the Pacific handgun sales are from the LA/Orange County areas.

It will be interesting to see how the Obama era map compares, although I'm sure the November-December spike is in this one.

Not surprised that OH is High shotgun sales. That's what you hunt with up there during the gun season. Your 8MM Mauser is fine for wild hogs or woodchucks, but you can't use them for deer.

I was thinking the same thing about the southern third of Michigan where the majority of people live. It's shotgun (and muzzle loader) only for deer.

I think Indiana was the same way till they started allowing Pistol caliber rifles last year wasn't it?
-
I think the results might be skewed a bit with people like me. Already own them, have been avoiding buying things on paper for quite a while. Millions of 1st time gun owners.

I wonder what the breakdown of AR Sales would look like this year??? :o

What is the reasoning for all of the shotgun-only for deer stuff?

What is the reasoning for all of the shotgun-only for deer stuff?
Too many cities and not enough woods.

Dang flatlanders! ;D
There are no hills or mountains to stop high power rifles from going to far.
I don't mind being able to see my neighbors.....I just don't want to be able to see them when they are 3 miles away. :P

Don't know.... Especially since you can use rifles for hogs and woodchucks. Lawmakers.............
