But as a progressive, I would sooner lay my child to rest than succumb to the belief that the use of a gun for self-defense is somehow not in itself a gun crime.

Dogma
I dealt with these idiots when I taught at a Quaker college. They at least had a religious reason and a long history of martyrdom to support them, still idiots, but grounded and sincere idiots. Still, I was actually able to make some headway by arguing the social contract with them. The argument goes like this.
Idiot: "But who gives you the right to kill? "
Non-idiot: "The deadman I just shot".
Idiot: "Huh"?
Non-Idiot: "He chose to attack me of his own free will. I am not responsible for his actions and I did not provoke him. By living in a community, you understand that others have the right to hold you to account. He simply faced the consequences of breaking the most basic tenets of the social contract. Thou shalt not rape, rob or murder. The choice was his".
This actually worked a time or two. Failing that, be glad that you have a Glock and they don't.

I feel bad for his kid.

Some of the comments on the article were just as scarey.

Perhaps if schools also posted signs that said "This is a violence, murder free zone" it would be more effective.

"stay put so everyone has an equal chance of victomhood"  ::)

I'm pretty sure that I heard even the Dalai Lama quoted as saying something to the effect that if a person was to enter your home determined to kill you and your family and if you had a gun with which to defend yourself you would be foolish not to use it.

this sounds as wacky as the 'onrecess' guy that snooped around here for a few weeks. that guy was nutty.  :P
do not like his way of thinking and if my child was in a school with a wacky teacher like that I would do everything possible to keep my child away from them.

some people......
math teacher, maybe he should get a job as an accountant and not in a position where he could warp little children's minds.

I think this guy wrote this with tongue in cheek.  I find it hard to believe anyone is so insane as to think of the "fairness" involved in escaping from a homicidal maniac.

"An alternative to lockdown is immediate exodus via announcement. Although this removes potential hostages and makes it nearly impossible for the shooter to acquire preselected targets, it unfairly rewards resourceful children who move to safety off-site more shrewdly and efficiently than others."

"But as a progressive, I would sooner lay my child to rest than succumb to the belief that the use of a gun for self-defense is somehow not in itself a gun crime."

I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone could look down at his child's grave and think, "Hey, you're dead, but I didn't have to compromise my morals to protect you."

Either this was some very dry sarcasm, or this guy is certifiably insane and does not value human life in the least.  I pray for the former, not the latter.

If it weren't true, the Boston "Gob" wouldn't print it, right?  (That's sarcasm!)....

Having put my kid through the system here in Assachusetts, believe me.....this was NOT sarcasm...this dipshit believes this crap!

This is getting to be the norm in the school systems here....

Brockton is a toilet, BTW.....why anyone would live there is beyond belief..

Most of the Jail birds I have known from Mass came from Brockton, that should tell you something. (about Brockton, I usually meet these people by working with them  ;D  )

Bic, Here is the Quote From the Dalai Lama

http://www.sff.net/people/sanders/gunquotes.html

"If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun."
- The Dalai Lama

Here's one from Ghandi;

http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quote_blog/Mohandas.Gandhi.Quote.0639

"Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look
upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest."

The attitude expressed by the fool in the article should be considered child abuse or neglect.
Here is a thought, The Bible says "Thou Shall not Kill", by standing aside and allowing some one else to commit murder when you could have the means to stop them makes you an accomplice doesn't it ? You knew and allowed it to happen, therefore you aided in the crime.

The Bible condones taking a life in self defense, war, and as capital punishment for a crime..... so, you are good!

And yet attacks on home schooled kids, or private schools is under attack? The teachers unions, aka socialist bastions of progressive thought, just want the bodies in the class to fulfill budget requirements.

Check out the NEA, biggest bunch of progressive's that created most of the problems that have evolved in this country in the last 50 years.

I was probably the last generation of students that had corporal punishment. We got in trouble, we beat each other up, we did stupid stuff, but getting a gun and coming back to school and "killing" classmates/teachers was NOT & NEVER in the equation.

Hell, some of the "farm boys" from Davie, in high school had their .22's, and Sears & Roebuck single shot 12g's in the back window of their dad's pick up in the school parking lot.

Geez, kids grow up a sponge soaking in everything around them, and kids haven't changed, the teachers, curriculum, and objectives of "Gov't Schools" has.

Hence the result. What are the school shooting stats pre 1985? 75, 65???

Of course the NEA is a Socialist bastion, it was one of the first targets of infiltration after the labor unions , I forget whether it was Lenin or Stalin who said "teach them when they are young and they are ours forever"

Every truck in the school parking lot in 1974 had a gun rack in the back with a gun in it.  The teachers would ask you for your pocketknife to open something if they forgot theirs.

We did not have the problems of today's enlightened age...we older guys need to tell the younger ones what is was like because they cannot comprehend living like that based upon their own youthful experiences and socialist/liberal indoctrination.  Anyone 50 or older can in no way say that today is better than yesterday was without having had an extensive head injury along the way.

Your words are excellent.  As someone who went to a Quaker school for both elementary and high school education I know of your experience.

I know of a couple of fellow HS graduates who have also made the choice to be armed.

Actually Tom this is incorrect. The Bible says "Thou Shall not commit murder" Exodus 20:13". There's difference between murder and killing.

Bob, I know that was the MEANING of the original phrase, however My King James renders it as "kill" then refers to Deut 5:17 which says the same thing. But that is beside the point as your quotation of the intended translation strengthens my point that ALLOWING some one to murder makes you just as guilty as they are.
