Introduced by Rep. Bobby Franklin (R-43, Marietta), HB 873 would have the effect of repealing Article 4, relating to dangerous instrumentalities and practices, in its entirety. This would mean that there would no longer be Georgia laws against carrying a pistol without a license, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a deadly weapon to a public gathering. It would also mean that Georgia would no longer have a preemption law, keeping cities and counties from regulating the carry and possession of firearms, and would no longer regulate felons' possession of firearms or the possession of machine guns, silencers, and short barreled shotguns, although such items would still be the subject of extensive and burdensome federal laws.
In summary, HB 873 would repeal every Code section from 16-11-101 through 16-11-173. The bill offers to replace these Code sections with nothing.

Sounds to me like a step toward obeying the Constitution.
Shall not be infringed

Fear mongering by another anti rag!

Bad bill, Need to KEEP the preemption, other wise places like Atlanta will use what should be a PRO gun bill to FURTHER infringe our rights. Good idea but needs to have Preemption stipulated.

I would agree with that Tom! Their must be something left in place to protect our rights. But maybe the McDonald case will eliminate the need for it! ;)

I dont get it ??? Why is this bad... It would supposedly keep localities from regulating firearms?

It won't go far.

They should have left out the comma.

You would LOSE your protection.

Sounds like this bill will have both sides fighting it...

Yep.
It has good and bad points. The original intent was to remove some of the 'confusing' language in how the current laws are worded, like what a 'public gathering' is.
Looks more like a classic example of a politician introducing something he knows won't pass....all just to get his name in the light.
Have to wait and see.

I agree, he gets his name in the papers, and gets votes from both sides... that is a win win.

Maybe they will weed out all the original bad crap and pass the good stuff.
Georgia gun bill advances to House subcommittee
ASSOCIATED PRESS
ATLANTA —
A Georgia bill that would allow licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons in most places is headed to a House subcommittee.
Rep. Rich Golick (R-Smyrna), said a subcommittee will be able to “hash out” some of the concerns about the bill.
Most of the discussion centers on an expansion of the rights of licensed gun owners to carry their weapons to churches, bars and college campuses.
The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Tim Bearden (R-Villa Rica), told committee members Thursday the existing law is “extremely confusing” to gun owners and law enforcement.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports an overflow crowd appeared at the hearing, including gun rights supporters wearing orange badges that read: “Guns Save Lives.”
