So this morning I officially joined the Colt club. A new L.E. 6920, and a new L.E. 6940. First impressions are good. The guns came factory sealed with a lifetime full replacement warranty. (Can't beat Davidson's for that.), The price was the best I've seen in a while. I like getting guns in a factory sealed box. My local shop didn't open them, they waited for me to do that. That I appreciate. Over all first impressions are good. Guns unpacked smelling like a CLP factory. I like to see that, and it corresponds with the attitude today of, "run an AR-15 DRIPPING." These were. I like that fact. Oil was oozing from every pin and button.
The sights on the 6940 I really liked. White labeled out to 600 yards, and were the pop up variety. I'm not too crazy about the oblong front grip on the 6920. I like the fully round grip provided on the Bushmaster M-4 models better. They simply fit my large hands better. The guns were packaged beautifully, wrapped in a type of anti rust, heavy gauge plastic. The cardboard boxes fit very securely, and were taped shut from the factory with Colt "Prancing Pony" blue tape. The 6940 came with a very large Law Enforcement type manual. The 6920 with the smaller civilian packet type manual that is the same size Bushmaster and Rock River Arms supplies. Both rifles included 2 well scuffed 20 round magazines.
On the negative side, I really don't have too many complaints thus far. The guns were shipped immaculately, both arriving without a scratch or rub mark. Lets face it for $3,000.00+ out the door they damn well should. They certainly could have done better than 2, scuffed up 20 round, G.I. mags for what they charge. A couple of nice black 30 round Mag-Pul P-Mags for the price would have been nice. Colt needs to get with the times. Again, especially for what they charge. And while I'm on the subject, a $1,200.00 + gun in a cardboard box? Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, DPMS, and all the so called "lesser brands" include a really nice hard case. Colt should as well. They need to wake up!
Overall I like the weapons, and they exhibit a good degree of fit and finish. As always the proof is in the shooting. That will come tomorrow. Melanie and I are heading out early because we've got a lot of new guns to light up from these Christmas holidays. A new Sig and Beretta 9 MM, as well as a new Rock River Arms 9 MM LAR-9 Carbine, and these 2 new Colts. Plenty of ammo will be required! I'll report back if anything gives us any grief. It's looking good so far. Bill T.

Surprised to see plastic magazines...
I know it's unheard of anymore, but if it's gotta be an AR, I DO like one with the carry handle!

Those are Mag-Pul P-Mags I had. I put them in for photo purposes. The 2, 20 rounders Colt shipped were pretty ratty. P-Mags are the way to go. For what it's worth, I like carry handles as well. Don't be surprised if one winds up on the 6940. Bill T.

Nice looking Colts Bill.
Now where is that thread about how much we love BillT? ;D
-
I feel sorry for you man, hope you got a great deal. You could of bought 2 other rifles for that price. ;D

Does the spending ever stop?

Not quite, but I do agree that Colt's are in fact overpriced. I've been raked over the coals for saying that very thing! We will indeed see how these 2 go. Bill T.

It has pretty much come to an end. Mel and I have been "planning" these rifles and handguns for quite some time. This stuff wasn't an "impulse buy", except for the Beretta, by any stretch of the imagination. For now, with the current political climate, things will settle down. I hope everything improves! bill T.

Can I have the old stuff you dont use anymore ;D

I don't think that one will have the "pooper scooper" option..... ::)
You certainly won't need the plunger attachment either.
Flat-top is sweet. Good shooting!

you still suck, but Happy New Year anyway...[/size]

Has anyone wondered how Bill managed to aquire two firearms from Colt that are restricted to military and police departments and not generally available to the general public?
Oh yea Bill, though I'm not much of a black rifle guy, I'll agree that you definately suck but in a very envious American sort of way......what you're doing is commendable.
Enjoy!

It's not hard to get the leo stuff, it will be a good product but overpriced. I have one colt ar, and few 1911's , 2 revolvers.
Damn Bill your getting close to me, and that is scary.
YOU AND MEL ENJOY ;D

You're right, I think Colt is a little too pricey as well. All the internals are supposed to be Mil-Spec. I hope they run good. We'll hopefully see today. Bill T.

This guy buys everything in twos and threes. I still wonder if there is a spare Mrs. BillT. ;D ;D ;D
Actually a smart man, buy two, one for the wife and problem solved.

Mel and I went to the range yesterday to try out the Colts, and some of the other guns we've gotten over the last couple of weeks. It was chilly and windy, but we still managed to go through almost 350 rounds of 9 MM, and 250 rounds of .223.
The Colts shot very well. The sights were almost perfect on both of them. Not one FTF or FTE, even with my handloads. It was a bit too windy for any real accuracy testing, but it was easy to tell the guns were far more accurate than we were, especially yesterday. The most fun was the Rock River Arms 9 MM carbine! That thing is a blast to shoot! I had 3 different kinds of ammo. Federal 115 Gr. Ball, (Wal-Mart), some Winchester NATO, and PMC Ball. All of it ran well in all the guns. The Rock River Carbine, as well as the Sig and Beretta. All of the magazine we had fed everything without a hitch.
Even in the afternoon it was still cold with the wind. We spent the better part of last night cleaning everything. That is the one thing I hate about D.I. AR-15's! They get so damn dirty. Anyway it was a good, fun day overall. The only bad thing is I woke up this morning with an awful bad sore throat. I hope I'm not getting something. I'm back at work tomorrow. We ended up falling asleep before midnight. Just too tired from shooting what amounted to late in the afternoon. Bill T.

Congrats Bill on the Colt ARs. A question for you, did yours come with CLP (or some type of similar oil coating) or did they use Cosmoline? Mine was just like yours and my dealer allowed me to open the Colt box as well when I got to the shop and mine had Cosmoline.....just curious. Keep the cardboard tube that is inserted in the barrel as it contains a rust prohibitor that protects the barrel when in storage. It lasts a number of years as well.
I don't know if you've tried it, but Slip 2000 cleaner and Slip 2000 EWL work great on AR 15s by the way.
Have fun.....great rifles. I agree with you that they should provide a case of some sort (probably an Eagle) for that price, but Colt has always been strange in that regard. I have a 1969 4" blued Colt Python that came in a cardboard and styrofoam box. Go figure.......but their guns are superb.
-
CDR,
Both of mine came pretty well soaked with what looks like some form of preservative, but thinner than cosmoline. I have a couple of bottles of Slip 2000 EWL. Both of my LWRC Rifles came packaged with it. It seems to be pretty good stuff. Bill T.
-
Thanks Bill.
Slip 2000 EWL works great on semi auto handguns as well. The two best lubricants I have found for handguns is Gun Butter and Slip 2000. I've been using both and would recommend them very highly. I've never had a FYF or FTE with either lube in nearly three years of use, with the exception of one bad Italian ACT 1911 magazine with bad feed lips that I eliminated from the mix. The other advantage of Slip 2000 EWL is how easily carbon deposits clean up on both pistols and ARs.
-
Bill, If the stuff on your rifles was thinner than cosmoline and white it was LSA a teflon lube that Colt developed just for the AR back in the 60's

I would not count on it after the alarm on Sebastian's Snowflakes in Hell which MB brought up in his blog. The MAIG document that was discussed with BHO to outlaw guns by regulation with not a single congressional ramped me up. I'll have a Rock River 7.62 varmint with a threaded barrel next week and paperwork flying to the ATF same day for a 7.62 can.
-
Guys, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I really don't think BO really cares about this issue. He's anti yes, but its not his priority. For some of his people like Holder it is, but remember how fast the "helping Mexico out" trial balloon got shot down? If he could pass an AWB painlessly he would, but now he's sweating midterms and in 2011 he'll be worried about re-election. I don't see Rahm Emmanuel risking that over ideology. He knows that you don't go kicking over anthills if you can avoid it. If he's re-elected, there may be cause for worry, but now, as long as we keep on our reps I wouldn't sweat it.

Smart move Rastus. We can't have those evil cans here in Michigan. :(

It was white, it looked a bit like Mayonnaise. Very slippery stuff. I have a similar white lubricant / grease I've had for years called Lubriplate. It also works well. Mostly, in the Summer I use Mobil 1 20W-50. It has a nice consistency that doesn't run off so easily as some of the gun oils do. Bill T.
