Would've required me to wade through ass-deep snow in my dress shoes in sub-zero weather to retrieve the damn thing.  (We were on our way back from dinner out)

By that time I was already pissed, didn't figure I needed any further frustration.

Too bad, at least some backstraps for breakfast would have helped the pain...

BTW, was the snow that deep or is your ass that low?      ;D ;D

Spare pair of old boots in the trunk would be a good idea.....   ;)

I managed to miss the first critter out of the ditch, then came the second and I knew I was gonna hit it, but I guess I was in denial, cause it was like, "We'll miss it, we'll miss it, we'll miss it..........................WHACK..............aw shit!!"

The guy who lived there came to make sure we were ok.  He said that was the 7th one to get hit on that mile since Thanksgiving.

No pics, it was too damned dark out, and too cold to stand out there snapping pics with my phone.

The red and blue lights from the deputy's cruiser did paint a pretty tableau across the snow, however.  ;D

Glad you're ok. At least you didn't swerve to avoid it or lock up the breaks. Best deer/car advice I ever got was to drive right through it like it wasn't even there. A deer will do a lot less damage than a tree.

PS How many grains is that Caddy, and do you have an approximate FPS for reloads? ;D

It must be a damn heavy projectile....killed the deer and didn't even pop the airbags.  Did screw up the front of the car pretty good, though.

I have to ask. Is your Caddy factory new or is an "R" title?

I only ask because if you hit a deer and kill it with a "R" title car instead of a factory new car the game commission can really give you a hard time. I don't think it's worth the risk.

Just kidding.   ;D

Glad you're O.K.

Which do you think will be better, totaled or worth fixing?

I'd prefer they fix it.  If not then I get to start making car payments again.

This is the down side to new cars. They are much safer for the driver, but that's because the front end is made to collapse to lessen impact. In the old days, you're caddy might have needed a new fender, but you would have gone through the wind shield.Good for your heirs, bad for you. My advice? A Ford F-150 with a Honda catcher, I mean brush guard, on the front. ;D

Car payment suck.

I just paid off 1 car, 1 more to go.

I just have to convince the wife that the car payment savings should be good enough to buy a new gun every month or 2.  ;D

Buddy of mine sent me pics last spring of his first deer in MO.  It had gone through his windshield, ass end first and was sticking it's head out of the broken window like a hood ornament.  Missed him by about 6 inches but blew guts and poop all over his car...

Deer can do some crazy things when they get hit, big ones will total small cars nearly every time.  I actually think I'd rather hit a tree!  Now, make that animal a moose.......I'll take a sequoia over a moose....

Sorry tt.... but I am going to save your phone message to me.. I have to have something to laugh about every now and then and that message is classic..

I don't know the meaning of all those words though...  :o  me being an innocent in that area and all............ ;) hahahaha

I really AM feeling bad for your caddy... and the fact that you had "dress shoes" on and was too big of a pansy ass to wade out in a little snow and get fresh back strap that you paid for anyway..  ::)  **Could have ask Kathy to go do it.. I'm sure SHE would have put some meat on the table ... :D

Tom,

I would like to thank you for the "warm vibrations" in my pocket as you tried to call me and report the accident.  However, I had to decide if I wanted to talk to you or keep my hands on the wheel and mind on the ice ... I mean road as we came home from supper.  Any day now this ice is free to come off, but with the forecast I fear it will be slow driving for a couple more weeks.

Glad you and Kathy are well and that you were wise enough to stay out of the field chasing it.  Hope all goes well with the insurance and shopping.

By the way, do you have your agent's number on speed dial already  ;)

Geez, after this summer's hailstorm and the $10,000 claim for the new roof, then the water leak that required jack hammering the kitchen floor and replacing floor covering in 5 rooms, and now the deer........my insurance agent is gonna quit taking my calls!!

He's still making a profit, don't lose any sleep over it....unless he's a friend and he's still making a profit from it...

I've been paying car insurance and homeowners/renters insurance for 35 years.  Figure 1000 bucks annually so 35,000 minus the 1200 dollar claim from 14 years ago = PROFIT.....

I had an agent boost my rates nearly 30% after hurricane Andrew.  When I finally got her to admit that Allstate took heavy loses in S. FL and they had to recoop them somewhere, I said "While I sypathize with those folks, this is CT, you're fired!"

tt, sorry about your accident.  Glad no one was hurt!  Hurd stories of deer flying thru the windshield and either kikking or gouging  those inside to death.  Scarry thought.  Shouldn't have any trouble with insurance (hopefully).

There was a report about 10-15 years ago about the WI state trooper who had a stag go through his windshield - head first. His BP saved him from the antlers.

A friend had the same experience with deer as TT, only 3 times. In 1 year! He finally gave up and went to Rapid City and picked up a junkyard front end for his Buick - fenders, grill, hood, trim, the whole shebang. He replaced it himself, cheaper than going back through the insurance people.

If you have trouble with your insurance agent, you can always use the old Fawlty Towers defense: "I still maintain that the beast shouldn't have been standing there, well, not the second one anyway". ;D

The good news is you got your deer.  The GOOD news is now you can get rid of that Government Motors squeakwagon and buy a Lincoln made by a solvent American car company.  ;D
