After Armageddon is a great show. It is on now and at Midnight EST. I just wish there was a promo on Downrange Radio. Good job
-
Heck! I didn't know it was on tonight!
The Times of London called me for an interview and told me I was apparently, "The most depressing man in America." I said she should meet my friends..

Michael,
You have made great strides in the past few weeks- you have devolved from "The most boring man in America" to "The most depressing man in America". You should not feel proud, but ambivalent..... ;)
-
That's a hoot that a Brit thinks you're depressing.....keep up the good work!
Realistic views on the world are probably foreign to them fellas across the pond!
-
I just walked in from a city meeting, will have to record it when it's on later so I can see the whole thing. Mr Happy was just on, the setting made it look like you were being interrogated!
So far, not too bad.
-
I will have to DVR it.
-
MB was great. But, it reminded me I don't have enough ammo and food put away yet!!! 8)
-
I stumbled on it during a long commercial break in the Orange Bowl. Saw Mr Personality. it was too far in it to record, but I'll catch it on the flip side.
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO BE DEPRESSED. Read the apocalyptic novel Lucifer's Hammer. It starts a little boring and predictable (space object hits earth, all hell proceeds), but but picks up a quarter way in. I think it does a very good job of showing how fragile our society is and what it will take to survive. Some of it is gross, but one of the points in the novel is preparation and action are key. Sitting around waiting on someone else (government) to save you is a sure way to die.
-
Kept me up till 2 am...
Worth it 100 percent!
;D

A'yup, I am glad I DVR'ed it.
As I posted on the SASS wire forum:
Just an FYI...if you are ever in that kind of situation, just about every house and business has a water heater, so a pair of channel lock pliers, a Crescent wrench, a 3 foot length of garden hose with the female threaded adapter, and a big water jug, is a must for your Bug Out Bag (B.O.B.) . So just about every house has 30 plus gallons of water stored up in the water heater. A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds.
Having some very basic mechanical skills and understanding of how water works (i.e. water needs air at the top of the water heater in order to get the water out of the tank) could be some very good skills to have.
Mindset--->Skillset--->Toolset
P.S. It might sound kinda nasty, but how many gallons of water are stored in toilent tanks? (no...not the bowls).
-
Thank you. Now my wife gave me a green light to get 2 AKs and ammo.

I think the newer ones hold a little under 3 gallons, and yes, whats in the toilet TANK is just as pure as what comes out of the faucet.

While normally I agree with you Tom....I've done some bad things in my youth and you just can't count on that everywhere everytime. :o
-
There's something growing in my toilet tank. I'lll have to be VERY thirsty before I try that. I guess the bleach tablet would make it poisonus too.
-
Most depressing?!?!!? You were the most sane and positive one on that show.
-
HEADS UP On tonight 7 central time history ch.
-
what a great show for showing people what NOT to do in a grid down situation. I guess there are people that stupid out there. I thought Apocalypse Man was more helpful and informative.

Really? That's counter to most of the comments I've seen online. Issues I had - and heard - include (in no particular order):
1. Sliding down elevator cables? Really? Can you say metal splinters? Lack of control on a greasy cable?
2. Running into a city? Why? That's where a lot of the BGs live and dwell - and will be in power
3. Running through a city? Makes you a very visible target, motion attracts attention - not to mention running into a very bad situation too quickly to detect it and avoid it
4. Using parkour as an MO for gaining access to buildings basically is gambling with your life - twist an ankle or break a leg and not much else matters.
5. etc.
That said, I am finally watching the first part of After Armageddon, and OMG - how stupid are these people? Sadly, I know them, my neighbors and most of the people in the local big city. And me, once upon a time, but we're not going there.
-
Put me down as wanting to die during the flu outbreak, because I think I would last a couple of days tops in Houston.
-
Uh, get the hell out of the cities, think primitive survival, get back to basics, have the tools to do it with, and rendezvous with like minded folks. Take water and ammo and clothes, above all else.
Keep it simple.

He was already in the city, trying to find a better base, he used the sewer system to move around, he showed some very good ways of gathering and using resources most people would over look. The guy is a RECON Marine, the show wasnt for the average family. It was like Banes show on steroids, just more of a last man on earth type show.
-
How'd ya like the way the sheriff handled those thieves?

99 red ones ;D
Now that is funny. Damn near pissed myself. As to TW, if you live in So. Fl., you ain't going anywhere. Where are the woods? Where are the roads ? What about the 10 mllion other (armed) people who have the same idea? Unless you have an ocean going sail boat, you are pretty well screwed if things don't get better in the month or so your supplies will last.
FQ13 who may have the BGs take his guns, but they won't be getting the ammo. ;D

FQ, think about his screen name for a minute. (Just one, we don't want you to strain yourself here ;D )
Now, A trick question, who is the Forum member who makes his living doing electrical and electronic stuff on Yachts ?

It all depends on two questions. 1) does he have access to one. 2) is it a blow boat or gas powered? (Because gas supplies at, or near, marinas will last about 15 seconds after the Very Bad Thing occures)Two different kettles of fish. ;D

And probably has a revearse osmosis system to make potable water from sea water!

I watched and recorded it last night. A very sobering film that reminds us to stock up, be mentally prepared and be ARMED in a situation like that. Yep those thieves came in the wrong town. Great show Mr Bane. In the warehouse scene, I screamed pick up the guns!

Ditto... I was yelling at the wife for dropping the gun and at the husband for leaving it!!!

Now I don't feel so bad for doing it too.
-
:-[ I admit I said some pretty foul things during that part myself.. .
And then I came unhooked when the lady was using the water to " wash?"
My god!! How city-fied stupid do you have to be??
I also found out I probably have a whole lot to learn about plants etc.. which would have helped a lot.. To know which cactus's had good usable moisture in them..
But which around here are good for different types of usages..
-
There's another thing a lot of folks don't think about in a SHTF situation........prescription drug supplies. A lot of folks out there are dependent on certain drugs to live. In a bug-out situation....especially as in the pandemic crisis situation in the show, there would definitely be casualties due to this.
-
Yeah, think about all the diabetics who won't be able to get insulin.
There was a more mainstream-ish movie that came out in 1996 called The Trigger Effect.
You can watch the trailer here:

Read ONE SECOND AFTER, a really creepy TEOTWAWKI book built on serious analysis of the EMP threat...the loss of prescription drugs is a central theme...

Now there you go....gettin' me back on my high horse about EMP all over again....
That having been said, after watching the show you were on my wife finally gets why I want the extra script of antibiotics and Tamiflu when we can get 'em and understands why I want to buy her heart meds out 6 mos. without insurance coverage.

Rastus,
Most insurance plans allow you to buy your meds via the mail for up to three months with only two months co-pays. You should check into the process.
-
Guys you have to give the people on the show credit. They were portraying the typical LA family that has not prepared. No guns of their own no food supplies and no idea what to do or how to survive.

Thanks for the idea. We get the three month thing...but it cycles down to about 2 weeks supply when replenished. This is why I want to go ahead and buy the 6 mos. plus supply....I actually would feel better about 18 mos. for her.

This is true and when you wont listen to the experts who are paid to be consultants you end up with a docudrama that is sooooooo far from the norm of what will happen. And sooooooo tailored to the people in the city. REMEMBER country boys can survive.
-
2HOW I agree. I do not need to bug out. I live in the country. I skin deer, run trot lines, trap lines, snares, wood stoves. I am where I need to be.

+1 Amen ;D

I may have mentioned this before, but when they asked me how I planned to bug out, I told the producers that I lived in one of the places that urban people plan to bug out to, and that we have lots of ammo, handy earth movers for closing roads and a great big NO VACANCY sign...

I've always thought that if resources permitted I would leave Ohio and go back to NM. Only because where I use to live is atop of a 12 mile long 8 mile wide aquifer and has plenty of access to uncrowded mountains and plains for hunting wildlife. Not to mention huge resources of wild fish and birds and huh huh bear. But because it is considered "harsh land" most people avoid it for places like west Texas and Colorado. I bet Wyoming would be nice in a hellistic situation. Just kidding. No ONE EVER WANTS TO GO TO WYOMING!!!
-
Not with that -40 degree weather crap.
-
Another reason to like southern NM... Even in the coldest weather it's still survivable. Granted it gets somewhat hotter you don't have humidity to deal with. You get sufficient rain fall and have an underground source. Plus the winters aren't near as harsh as CO, WY, OH, PA, KS, etc.

A big +1 on that.
We are not super-remote, and the road in front of the house is paved......but, all the land on either side for the six-mile length of the road (several thousand acres) is owned by just a few families that know each other and get along well. We all have heavy equipment. A few motivated individuals with chainsaws and tractors could block the road at strategic points and close it down tight.
-
Don't forget to set a booby trap on the roadblock or an ambush overlooking it.
-

Absolutely.
We live on the high-ground of the area and could have good "shooting lanes" too.

If you're hunkered down in your bunker, I always figured a few of these signs with holes shot from the back through to the front of them would come in handy:
as far as like psyops goes...
-
Where can I get some.
-
My Dad used to have a sign on his driveway saying "Keep out - Private property" underneath it said, "This sign ranged for 30/30" and it had a couple holes blown through it. ;D
-
@bulldog... doing a right click and then looking at properties gives this as a link:

Hmmmn... I guess that doesn't really help.
Okkkaaayyyy.... I would say just try googling it.

Here's one place...there are others but this one was the first I came across with the metal sign that looked like the one in your pic.
NOTE: I looked at a couple of other links...they are on eBay too. Should have known.

I know this thread has been dormant for a while but I just stumbled upon this youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlcYpgfI564&feature=related And I did a quick DRTV site search and found it. I am dumbfounded after watching just a few minutes of the "After Armageddon" clip. I can only say as usual Michael great points and well spoken. You have seriously freaked me out again. ;)
tex
P.S. I need more armament , food , water , medical and alternate energy sources!!!
