Title: "Yes, cars kill more people then guns, but think of the inconvenience"
Post by: ericire12 on January 13, 2010, 09:58:37 AM
Ban guns, but not cars because it would be just too inconvenient is the main argument that this moron is putting forth. The sad part is that this fool is claiming that her son was killed by a drunk driver, but even thats still not enough to make her believe we should all take public transportation -- "The drunk driver showed poor judgment by driving while drunk. These things happen."  :o

I’d like to weigh in on the guns-versus-autos controversy.

First, I’d like to ask the question: Are guns necessary?
Police and soldiers have to use them, for sure, but what do ordinary citizens use them for?

Guns are made to kill; that’s their only purpose. Sure, autos kill more people than guns, but try and get along without one in this society. If we didn’t have autos, we’d have to rely on public transportation. Then wouldn’t everybody scream?

The tragedy of the two young people killed while playing with guns has stabbed the hearts of many, including me. How tragic the guns were considered a toy, an attitude which showed poor judgment and lack of proper education about what a gun can do and what they should be used for. Yet, these two boys were old enough to be considered mature.

Even my father, who’d had a great deal of experience with guns, put a hole in the ceiling one day while cleaning his gun. He didn’t know a bullet was in the chamber. His guns were used as toys, too. He hunted as entertainment.

My son was killed by a drunk driver in an auto. He was in an auto waiting for a red light to change, when a drunk came off the expressway and rammed the back of his car, killing him instantly. My son was coming home from work, just as the drunk driver was. Both were using their autos for a useful purpose.

The drunk driver showed poor judgment by driving while drunk. These things happen.

Now, I ask you: Do we have to put up with accidents from guns? Should they be used as toys? People who are mature, show good judgment and have experience have accidents with guns. Who needs them?

If you would change the context of the accident to a gun accident rather than a car accident, and if you would change the first question to refer to guns, this rant would be a strong defense of guns and condemnation of cars.

Emotional rants are what cause bad rules and laws.  And this lady is on an ignorant rant that will be used against us  >:(

I call BULLSHIT!!!  Not just BULLSHIT, but F***ING BULLSHIT!!  There is no way on God's green earth that this lady (and I use the term loosely) lost a loved one to a drunk driver.  Having personally lost a sister and brother-in-law to a drunk driver, both in the same crash, I can tell that this person does not exhibit NEARLY enough anger to have lost her son in the manner she describes.  Either that, or she's been smoking WAY better shit than I was ever able to find in the 70's.  Me, I'm mad as hell, more than 3 years later.

ok, rant off

+1.  The problem is we are emotional people.  That is why democracies always fail, you need the logic that a republic provides.

Take their pay away..... make them only be insession for a few months a year(3-6 tops), and make them all get real jobs outside of politics.

*Just like the founding fathers intended.

I was thinking of paying them on a commission basis, If per capita income goes up their pay goes up, if it drops, so does their pay.
And I was thinking more like 3 - 6 WEEKS, I don't want to spend any more time in that pest hole than I have to.   ;D

Fact, the chance of dying in surgery is 3x that of driving an automobile. That would seem to make gun deaths relatively insignificant.
