I love the way Smith and Wesson only photograph the right hand side of their revolvers so as not to show that crap lock they insist on using.  Note the pistols show the left hand side of the frame as no lock hole is present on the frame.  They realize it is a negative yet they, or their lawyers, insist on placing a keyhole into the side of the frame for "safety" purposes.  Tell that to the poor bastard who has the gun lock up on him while shooting a round of 454 Casull or 500 S&W at a charging brown bear.  It's really a ridiculous concept.

I have not, nor will ever buy a revolver of theirs containing such a stupid and dangerous device.  I'll stick with used, pre-lock era S&W revolvers, thank you very much.  The Lemon Squeezer is the only current S&W revolver I would consider as they, thankfully, left the lock off of that one given its grip safety.  Furthermore, I'm not sure how you have a reintroduction of prior "Classic" Smiths that now include a frame lock.....something that never existed originally.

Bane posted a link to a YouTube vid a while back on his blog about how to take ou tthe lock..... he said it was a pretty easy procedure.

Good to know Eric. As far as I'm concerned a revolver, or a pistol, needs two saftey devices. Something that will keep it from going off if you drop it, and an operator who knows to keep his damn finger off the trigger until its time to fire. That's why I carry a Glock rather than a 1911. Its also why I had no problems with a 3 screw Blackhawk, as long as the hammer was over an empty chamber. Anything else, locks, grip safeties, magazine safties, mechanical safeties, etc seem to be unneccesary and avoidable failure points.
FQ13 Who believes that "keep your booger hook off the bang switch" is a classic for a reason. Its a damned weapon for God's sake, not a toy! Who would want something that makes it harder to deploy? One simple safety rule or endless layers of fallible mechanical crap that can and will fail the one time you actually need the damned thing? Rant over. :-[

CDR, while I agree with you on the lock I have to point out that the reason the guys pistol locked up was because the recoil caused the bullet to work out of the casing far enough to jam up the works.

Hi Tom,

I wasn't referring to any particular case or individual when I expressed my feelings toward the S&W lock.  I was just speaking in general terms as I have read a number of cases over the last several years where the locked suddenly deployed under recoil.  In some instances, it was a complete lock failure and in other instances it occurred when a gun owner may not have turned the lock all the way into the open position which eventually worked its way into the locked position after recoil.  In either example, it is completely unacceptable in my opinion.  What iced it for me was when Michael Bane experienced the exact same failure during one of his filming sessions.

The case you may be referring to regarding the charging bear may be the Alaskan resident who was on Tom Gresham's GunTalk show earlier this year.  An incredible story where the bear charged this man and fell dead just as he reached him.  Fortunately, he was able to fire off 4 shots of 454 Casull loads before his revolver jammed.  The gun's cylinder jammed as a result of the bullet jumping the crimp from the fierce recoil.  The guy had used handloads which is something he will never do again....not in bear country.

I didn't see a M&P10 on that list. Above any thing else I was hoping for a 10mm in the M&P line this year!!! :( Maybe Glock will produce the G20- Gen 4. ???

Im still waiting for the inexplicably missing Glock carbine. They could make a fortune. All they'd have to do is slap a longer barrel , a stock, a fore-end rail system and H@K style diopter sights on their pistols. Offer a selective fire for LEOs, a semi for us peasants, and under bid H@K (never a hard thing to do). Interchangeable mags and a proven platfom in in 9mm, 10mm, .40 and .45. Whats not to love? It seems monkey simple to me, but then again, I ain't in charge.

Until they make one you'll have to settle for a Mech-Tech CCU. They make them in 9mm; 45ACP; 10mm;  40 Smith & Wesson,  and 357 Sig. http://www.mechtechsys.com/glock.html
