I have been looking at the NSSF SHOT Show website and it appears you can't just go to SHOT. They advertise it like it is open to the public but clearly state that it is not. So.. Is there anyway to get there from here? I would like to go sometime but I am not a dealer I just like to shoot. Almost looks like if your a member of NSSF you could get in. Their requirements are almost confusing. If I had an FFL could I get in? Could I go as a guest of someone with an FFL?

Make application as a shooting range, even if your just a member, use your local shooting club and that will normally allow you in. Be prepared to spend all 4 days, it does take that long to just look at the stuff and talk to people you want to talk to.

Also try to get to the NRA Convention in Charlotte, NC this year In May. Usually the two are just a few months apart, and admission is easier, and a lot of what is "premiered" at SHOT, shows up at the NRA convention.

Buddy up to a local gunshop, and see if they'll agree to "send" you (on your nickel of course) as their agent.
Does a C&R FFL count as an FFL for getting into SHOT?
-
Heck I have a couple of guys I work with that have their FFL's. We could go as a product research trip. I'm just looking for people that had any ideas if it is really as hard as they make it sound to get into.

If you have a sales tax permit you can apply as a business, or do as was said by Path - buddy up with your local gun dealer. I had an open invite from my gunsmith, but couldn't get away.

With all of that snow..........could you get out TO get away???

95% of the stuff at Shot will be at the NRA.. The only difference is NRA convention will have a lot more people.. families..kids etc... so be prepared to take the days to look as you will be inching your way around crowds..
Both events are a good time.. NRA will be fun as I know that several DR members will be there so I'm looking forward to being able to send them all the corner in person.. LOL

I actually could have gotten away ... I was even looking at the calendar and realized I'm supposed to be there ... and a tear came to my eye, but that might also be Lyle laying in the other room :'(
However, the trade off is that the last week of Feb. is coming together ;D Got the friend on board (his wife and my wife put me in charge of getting him out of the barn for nine days), and now all we need is a trailer and a condo ... and gas money, and it will be a Tahoe, two bikes and four very tired people headed to Florida! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I never thought of NRA Convention. Right now I'm not a member. :( I know I should join. In the past I haven't had the extra money to join and the people that call are almost working against the cause because they are soo pushy. Kinda pissed me off. I'm not the only one either. A few of my gun buddy's have joined and quit because they keep calling and asking for more money once they have joined? Anyone else experience this? Is there a miss communication or something?
-
Never had them call me but it seems like every month I get a letter asking for more money.
There are 2 sides to the NRA, on the one hand, they are the largest pro gun lobby in America, that means they represent the most votes and therefore get the most attention, they are the pioneers of most shooting and safety training in America, (there are many schools teaching different disciplines but none of them date back to 1870 ) and they do many other non political things like the National Fire arms Museum.
On the other hand, they are lobbyists, lobbying is a business and the "product" is money, the NRA will never attempt to gain a decisive victory over the grabbers because it is not in their interest to do so. The NRA NEEDS the gun grabbers as an incentive for us to keep pouring millions of dollars a year into their coffers .
I am and will remain a member but I do so knowing that there is a point where our best interests diverge.

Thanks Tom.. Glad I'm not the only one. I would be ok with the junk mail but they call me while I'm sleeping (shift work) and that really gets annoying. They even called my parents house recently looking for me. I haven't lived there or used their phone for 12 years. Next gun show I go to I'll probably sign up with the condition they do not call me. If they can't do that then I may not join.

Head on over to Tom Gresham's site and sign up. It is $25 over there, not that much.

I'm thinking of going direct through the NRA and talking to someone there. Maybe recording the conversation and asking that they do not call me for any reason. If they do I'll request a refund and drop the membership. I (along with many others on DRTV) have a bit of insomnia due to working either straight graveyard shift or some sort of swing shift in my post high school years. It is much more likely that I'm awake at 0200 then to be awake at 1400. I want to support the cause but I don't want to be milked.
-
I had them put me on their DO NOT CALL list last time they called.

False phone number!
Actually, I don't get phone calls from NRA. Lots of junk mail, but that isn't a problem. Buckmasters ... now that is a different matter.

I used to get a lot of junkmail from the NRA but I don't get any now. They finally figured out they were just wasting postage on me because I didn't answer it.
