How's that for a nice message to our millitary, and a subtle up your's to the PC and muslim community ;D
I Love It!!!
Who discovers this stuff ... I always look over my stuff, and anyone with any Bible knowledge is going to recognize it as a reference and look it up. I'm just surprised it took so long for the MSM to catch wind of it. Suppose we will be required to grind it off every optic in the sandbox?

That Psalm fits many politicians

Now that this has been on abc news, how long do you give it before the government / military boycotts trijicon to make them remove it? ::)

Any reporter worth a darn would have contacted Trijicon and included their comments or their unwillingness to comment in the news article....

" 'Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.' takes too much room. However, the reference fits just fine." ;D

Better not. Al Queada would complain and the govt would take all Trijicons out of service.

Ummmmm......Slide #9:
Trijicon of Wixom, Michigan, confirmed to ABCNews.com that it adds the biblical codes to the sights sold to the U.S. military. The company says the practice began under the company founder, Glyn Bindon, a devout Christian from South Africa who was killed in a 2003 plane crash. The company's vision is described on its web site as, "Guided by our values, we endeavor to have our products used wherever precision aiming solutions are required to protect individual freedom." (ABC News).

This just makes my choice in optics that much easier. Aside from being a manufacturer of quality equipment, Trijicon has now earned my respect and future dollars.

Despite Extensive Online Discussions, Military Denies Knowledge Of Rifle Scope Bible Verses
Justin Elliott | January 18, 2010, 6:20PM
Responding to the revelation that rifle sights used by the military in Iraq and Afghanistan are inscribed with Bible citations, a Marine Corps spokesman told TPMmuckraker today that the branch simply didn't know about the inscriptions until inquiries were made last week.
But posts on gun enthusiast forums from as early as 2006 and Youtube videos watched thousands of times extensively discuss the Bible verses on the Trijicon rifle sights, casting doubt on the military's claim that it was unaware of what was apparently a poorly kept secret.
At issue here are citations of various New Testament verses (e.g. John 8:12 -- "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'") that are inscribed in abbreviated form (JN8:12) on sights made by Trijicon, a major supplier for the Army and Marines. The inscriptions, which are visible with the naked eye, typically follow the serial number on Trijicon's scopes (see examples here).
Marines spokesman Carl Redding told TPMmuckraker that the Marine Corps -- which, according to ABC, has a $660 million contract with Trijicon -- only just found out about the inscriptions. "We're still investigating it to try to understand what we can and should do," he said, declining to comment further.
But the inscriptions were hardly a secret among many gun owners.

Bible References On Combat Scopes Ruffle Feathers
Mich. Company Inscribes Scripture References On Rifle Sights Used By U.S. Soldiers In Iraq, Afghanistan
Combat rifle sights used by U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan carry references to Bible verses, stoking concerns about whether the inscriptions break a government rule that bars proselytizing by American troops.
Military officials said the citations don't violate the ban and they won't stop using the telescoping sights, which allow troops to pinpoint the enemy day or night.
The contractor that makes the equipment, Trijicon of Wixom, Mich., said the U.S. military has been a customer since 1995 and the company has never received any complaints about the Scripture citations.
"We don't publicize this," said Tom Munson, Trijicon's director of sales and marketing said in an interview. "It's not something we make a big deal out of. But when asked, we say, 'Yes, it's there.'"
The inscriptions are subtle and appear in raised lettering at the end of the stock number. Trijicon's rifle sights use tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen, to create light and help shooters hit what they're aiming for.
Markings on the Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, one of the company's most advanced models, include "JN8:12," a reference to John 8:12: "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"
The Trijicon Reflex sight is stamped with 2COR4:6, a reference to part of the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians: "For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ."
Photos posted on a Defense Department Web site show Iraqi forces training with rifles equipped with the inscribed sights.
The Defense Department is a major customer of Trijicon's. In 2009 alone, the Marine Corps signed deals worth $66 million for the company's products. Trijicon's scopes and optical devices for guns range in cost from a few hundred dollars to $13,000, according to the company's Web site.
Mikey Weinstein, president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, says the biblically inscribed sights could give the Taliban and other enemy forces a propaganda tool: that American troops are Christian crusaders invading Muslim countries.
"I don't have to wonder for a nanosecond how the American public would react if citations from the Koran were being inscribed onto these U.S. armed forces gun sights instead of New Testament citations," Weinstein said. The foundation is a nonprofit watchdog group opposed to religious favoritism within the military.
Weinstein said he has received complaints about the Scripture citations from active-duty and retired members of the military. He said he couldn't identify them because they fear retaliation.
A spokesman for U.S. Central Command, which manages military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, said the inscribed sights don't violate the ban on proselytizing because there's no effort to distribute the equipment beyond the U.S. troops who use them.
"This situation is not unlike the situation with U.S. currency," said the spokesman, Air Force Maj. John Redfield. "Are we going to stop using money because the bills have 'In God We Trust' on them? As long as the sights meet the combat needs of troops, they'll continue to be used."
The Marine Corps and the Army did not respond to e-mails from The Associated Press requesting comment on the Trijicon sights.
Munson, Trijicon's sales director, said the practice of putting Bible references on the sites began nearly 30 years ago by Trijicon's founder, Glyn Bindon, who was killed in a plane crash in 2003. His son Stephen, Trijicon's president, has continued the practice.

What's this "secret" stuff about? It's right there for all "aware" folks to see.
Geez, the left, hates this stuff....
Like Crimson Trace, every employee is a member of the NRA,...So there's Trijicon with frankly inspiring "secret codes" on their optics, from a Christian American Company. OMG!!! anything but that.. >:(
If a U.S. Soldier, sitting in the "wherever" pulls out his "regulation issued" Bible, and feels a little better, inspired, closer to his God, by referencing his optics, GOOD!
Than he can use those optics to do his job.

Do the sights deliver as expected? Do we have Bible verses on many of our national buildings, monuments and documents? Does the inclusion of this sequence of letters and numbers in the serial number area affect anything with the sight?
Get over it!

Next, ABC News will be looking for MRE chicken breast meals shaped like the Virgin Mary. It would be nice if ABC would stick to real news, like oh i don't know, special interest groups and bribery......... JMHO.

I say :bring back the Templar Knights" and wipe the radical muslims off the face of the earth. These people public say they want to either bring all to Islam or kill them, us. We need to start making glass.
-
Well boys and girls New Zealand is the first to call it inappropriate as their PC whores lay the lie to the National attitude"It'll be alright Jack".
Like a poster said, "Thanks ABC, if Trijicon stands on principle people will lose their jobs." I hate the press, they should start putting the likenesses of reporters in jars of urine and call them "Piss Reporters".

ok so the Muslim are angry over US military 'Jesus' scopes
Yes, because the Islamic world has a fine tradition of separation of church and state, particularly when it comes to their militaries.
Some Islamic army and national mottos:
Saudi Arabia – There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah
Sudan – We are the Army of God and of Our Land
Egypt – Higher and higher for the sake of glory
Iraq – Allahu Akba ("God is the greatest")
Pakistan – Unity, Discipline and Faith
Yemen – God, Nation, Revolution, Unity
Libya – Allahu Akba ("God is the greatest")
UAE – God, Nation, President
Morocco – God, Nation, King
Brunei – Always in service with God's guidance
Hezbollah – Kill the Jews, Let Allah Sort Them Out (paraphrased)
So, basically, many Muslims can shut their cake-holes about this particular issue, unless they also object to the practices of their own countries.
It's only in the politically-correct, overly-sensitive secular West that this kind of thing is even an issue.

They are thinking of using Reporters instead of Rats in Lab Experiments for 3 reasons.
1. They are so plentiful
2. Lab Assistants don't get attached to them
3. There are somethings a Rat won't do.

UPDATE: Trijicon Caves
http://www.saysuncle.com/2010/01/21/trijicon-caves/
A company under fire for etching biblical reference on rifle scopes used by the U.S. military said Thursday it will stop the practice, and offered to provide modification kits to the Pentagon to enable their removal on existing optics.
*Looks like the Israeli Army has no problem using Christian inscribed Rifle Scopes, to defend against fanatic Muslims:
http://doubletapper.blogspot.com/2010/01/trijicon-rifle-scope-bible-code-in-idf.html
Also:
Psalm 144:1
"Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle."
Or
Ezekiel 25:17
"And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them."
-
Ericire12,
The Israeli quotes come from the Old Testament, and thus are not soley Christian.
I wish that Trijicon had not caved. However, the thing that is even scarier is that someone may actually use the kit to remove the words of Jesus from something. I would hate to be that person someday!
-
sigh.....
Since Trijicon is being used on the weapons by Gov. Contract, it would seem it is the best product for the effectivness of our troops.`
It is sad that anyone would move do deprive our troops of the most effective product if the fight for our country because of some letters and numbers stamped on the product.
At least by stopping the practice of using the reference and offering the removal kit, Trijicon has insured that our troops will continue to have the best available equipement for their fight.
It is to bad our own government wasn't concerned about this.
-
How about a letter/email campaign FROM AMERICANS that say I won't buy a Trijicon product UNLESS it has a Biblical reference on it?
I'll be happy to take the surplus...
-
Unfortunately I don't think Trijicon had a choice.
They are dealing with the govt. If they hadn't done it the govt could have said "thank you very much, we will be turning production over to Bushnell (or someone else). Please provide all your specs to them so they can get started."
Does this mean I have to hurry up and buy one while the "good" ones are still floating around out there?
-
If Trijicon is going to cave, I think the government should buy all new. Put the rest on surplus...
-
