..Send California inmates to Mexico, says Schwarzenegger
SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested California could ease its crowded prison system by sending thousands of undocumented inmates to specially built jails in Mexico.
Speaking to reporters at the Sacramento Press Club, Schwarzenegger said California could ease its strained finances by a billion dollars if 20,000 illegal immigrants currently held in the state were housed across the border.
"I think that we can do so much better in the prison system alone if we can go and take, inmates for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal immigrants that are here and get them to Mexico," Schwarzenegger said.
"Think about it -- if California gives Mexico the money. Not 'Hey, you take care of them, these are your citizens'. No. Not at all.
"We pay them to build the prison down in Mexico. And then we have those undocumented immigrants down there in prison. It would half the costs to build the prison and run the prison. We could save a billion dollars right there that could go into higher education."
Schwarzenegger's remarks come as California prepares for the latest in a long line of state budget crises.
Schwarzenegger declared a fiscal emergency earlier this month, warning severe cuts were necessary to stem a 19.9-billion-dollar deficit.
California has some of the most overcrowded prisons in the United States, with an estimated 170,000 inmates housed in facilities designed for 100,000 people, according to 2007 figures.
Schwarzenegger said he believed the financial burden of California's prisons could be eased if the private sector moved into the industry.
"I think that there is no reason why we should have just state employees and public prisons," Schwarzenegger said. "Why shouldn't we have private prisons and private prisons competing with public prisons?
"I don't want to go and get rid of public prisons, not at all. It's not an attack on their labor union even though they may take it as such.

SO, they'd still be in Mexico where they belong.

I agree. I don't care if they never do a day behind bars. Just send them home with a brand on their forehead and a shoot to kill order if they are seen in the US again (applicable to police, military and civilians). Problem solved (also makes a nice aiming point).

Hey, Mexico is already screaming that all their crime is caused by us Gringos and our guns! Can you imagine what they would say about our prisoners...especially after they escape from their Mexican prison!

They do have a point. Its not our guns, its our stupid drug laws. If we didn't buy it, they wouldn't sell it. Legalize the s-it, let the stupid poison themselves, and we save bilions of dollars and thousands of lives. Criminals would have to make an "honest" living by stealing cars and TVs where we could actually shoot them if they were caught in the act. Again, problem solved. 8)
FQ13 who will keep beating this dead horse until someone in power actually buys a clue

That's 95% of the problem, we listen to what they say! We need to do what they, and every other pi$$ a$$ nation does to us, don't listen, don't care, and do what the hell WE WANT! These countries hate our guts anyway, let's at least give them a valid reason to. The more they hate us, the better I like it. Bill T.

I should have added - and then high-tailin' back to the US border. This is where FQ's suggestion comes in.

If I thought there was a rat's ass chance we would actually do this I would be all for it. Otherwise, close the damn border, airlift the illegals back to Mexico, don't even land, just air-drop them over Tegucigalpa, and be done with the problem.

That is just like all of this Haiti earthquake relief. Sure, I feel for those people, but let's at least be honest. There is no helping people who don't want to be helped. I'm not talking about food, medicine, and water. That is only the beginning. Who is going to pay to rebuild that total stink hole? I'll tell you this much, it won't be them. They have no banks, no financial infrastructure, no government, no nothing. Who is going to do what? We have done nothing but shovel money into that $h!thole for decades. Where has it gotten them or us? One corrupt leader after another, all to zero benefit. They are asking for donations, yet they can't even tell you where the money is going to go, or who is going to be responsible for it.
Last night on Fox, O'Reilly wanted a spokesperson to come on his show and show some financial transparency for all of the money this big telethon was raising for Haitian relief. They would not come on. A person would have to be insane to give hard earned money to a group like that. Those rock and movie stars could be using it for fuel for their Lear Jets for all we know.
All of this "charity" plays on the heart, and makes grown people stupid. How can you give money when you have zero idea where it's going, and who is managing it? You wouldn't buy a stock without an annual report, yet these idiot's take in cash from these blind donations, and little, if any, reaches the people. These organizations really need to start cleaning up their act. Haiti will never rebuild anymore than the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans did. Neither had the self respect to make it worth rebuilding to begin with. Bill T.

Reminds me of an email that touted the laws in other countries regarding illegal entry.
Iran, Mexico, N. Korea, Cuba, and a host of others,........ Gee,... seems shipping their "countrymen back" would be a good thing.
Can we place an explosive microchip in them, it only detonates if they enter U.S. territory?
OBTW, the advocates for "undocumented aliens" won't approve....

Billt, Foreign aid is welfare on the National scale. It "Fixes" nothing, all it does is make the recipient dependent on the hand out.
It is the new Colonialism.

Your statement was fortified by the news media last week when they had a Haitian on camera saying, "Ain't nobody doin' nutin' for us!" Bill T.
