Orion Multimedia Announces Major Programming Block On SPIKE

Denver, Colorado - Orion Multimedia is proud to announce the groundbreaking television production of DON'T BE A VICTIM, for Spike TV, set to deliver the largest personal defense audience in history.

DON'T BE A VICTIM, the two-hour block of original programming from Orion Multimedia, will be comprised of 4 series and 3 branded vignettes. This block is more than just television programming, it will be a term of empowerment for all those who tune in. Every year in this country more than 1.3 million violent crimes are committed - 3,700 each day. Aggravated assaults account for more than 60% of violent crime, robberies 32%; over 25,000 property crimes take place every day of the year, almost 23% of them burglaries. The compelling question for viewers is simply: Will you be a victim? Or will you be ready to defend yourself and your loved ones?

DON'T BE A VICTIM will feature proven professional strategies, tactics and methods of self-defense, recognizing and avoiding threats, the latest in gear, security systems and weaponry, so that audiences will learn what it takes to be a modern-day guardian of their own homes, families, and lives. It's a block that will awaken a massive audience to the need to take charge of their personal security and to develop a plan to keep themselves safe at home, work, school and any place in between.

Through the accounts of actual individuals who have faced real danger, to expert insight and demonstrations, paired with archival video and dramatic recreations and re-enactments, DON'T BE A VICTIM will prepare the viewer for whatever may come. The 100 million households that Spike reaches will learn how one can take responsibility for their own safety and the defense of the property and the people they care about when trouble or disaster strikes.

The DON'T BE A VICTIM panel of personal defense experts, tactical instructors and law enforcement trainers is the most diverse and experienced ever gathered. Joining our distinguished panel is DON'T BE A VICTIM host, Gerald McRaney; second amendment advocate and star of such long running hit series as Simon & Simon, Major Dad, Jericho and Deadwood.

DON'T BE A VICTIM's 4 cutting edge series' will comprise of; What If? - How a tragic incident could have been different if the victims and/or bystanders involved were armed, trained, and prepared to defend themselves. When Your Life Depends On It - Vivid stories from armed citizens who turned the tables on criminals. Practical Tactical - Personal defense experts teach you how to stay alive. Conceal + Carry = Survival - Victims of crime vow "never again" as we follow them through a concealed carry training class. The three sponsored vignettes will comprise of; Even the Odds - Common sense tips on how to escape any life-threatening scenario. Predator Stoppers - A look at the latest firearms and gear for home and personal use. School for Survival - A weekly handgun and personal protection classes.

"It's unprecedented to have a network the size of Spike's 100 million homes carrying this kind of personal defense content," says Orion Multimedia President, Chris Dorsey. "With unmatched story telling, production values, and audience size, this block will not only help sponsors grow market share, but we'll grow the market as we awaken a massive new, mainstream audience to the need for personal protection products and methods."

Complementing the innovative television series, Orion Multimedia is also set to launch DON'T BE A VICTIM WebTV. The webTV network will be an outlet and hub for millions of people who refuse to be a victim. Featured on the site will be a community of experts, tactical demonstrations, product reviews, e-newsletters, survival stories and message boards to empower everyone to take charge of their own safety.

DON'T BE A VICTIM will begin airing on Spike TV, beginning Saturday, July 3rd and will run for 26 weeks from 9am to 11am Eastern.

Check local listings for airdates and times in your area.

that's "ORION" Tom...and lets hope their "professionals" are "been there, done that!" type of guys.  I've always liked the Spike TV car and truck shows in the am.  Maybe this will get me interested too...

Their Surviving Disaster series was fairly well done from what I saw. And if the keep these new shows in line with the production quality of Surviving Disaster then it should be impressive. Bigger budgets do allow for things you may otherwise not be able to explore on a smaller show like Best Defense. No disrespect to BD. Just a fact that they could, in theory do some of the things that BD would blow an entire years budget on. I'm still all in for BD but it would be cool to get a midweek dose too.

It is my understanding that one of the people they are planning on interviewing is Jeanne Assam.  She was the one that ended the New Life Church shooting by going up against a gunman armed with an AR15 with just her Beretta 92.

If I read their release correctly the series will air from 9 to 11 AM.  Wouldn't they get a better audience and reach more families in "Prime Time"?

Actually, Saturday mornings are the ONLY time I watch Spike TV.  The rest of their programing I know nothing about.  It should be a good timeslot, right before all the car and truck programming that guys watch.  Spike is NOT known for "family" programing anyway.  It's kind of a niche network for men.  Cars, women, trucks, etc.......

I agree that Surviving Disaster was a great show.... I am still on theo fence about Digital Cable.... The only channel that would be worth it is ODC for Best Defense Shooting Gallery etc.

Just to update those that care regarding this series...

I am with High Caliber Training (www.hicaltraining.com) outside Memphis, TN and the film crew just left our facility last week.  They covered shooting on the Roger's Range, low light/ no light procedures, and some driving techniques on our driving track.  From what I gathered from listening to the host and camera guys, a lot of money and time has been invested in this series.  They have film crews traveling all over America going to the different training sites (HCT, Blackwater, Gunsite, etc...)  They seem to be "spot on" with the stuff they're trying to compile.  Hopefully it will come across to the public and convince citizens to get out there and actually practice with their personal firearms.  Time will tell I guess... I will update again when we are given a chance to look at how they actually put everything together.

I go to Spike TV's web site and the schedule for Sat. 7/10 9:00 AM shows Married With Children.

I guess it is hard for any organization to realize that the opportunity to 'get the word out' quickest and cheapest is by keeping their web site up to date.

It also gives them a bad "first impression" with me.

If they were filming just last week, and even if this was the last location to be filmed, it seems that 7/10 would be way to soon to have the production on the air?

I guess last weeks filming might be for an episode farther in the future, though.

A few years ago I was picked for a jury pool for a murder trial in Houston.  It was pretty much an open and shut case, a local TV station had shown the survalence video of the actual crime. The man arrested was on parol for armed robbery, and his defense team was just trying to keep him off death row (no idle threat in Texas).
We all had to fill out a questionair, and one of the questions was "What bumper stickers do you have on your vehicle?". I only had one.

"DON'T BE A VICTIM,
Buy A Gun"

I didn't get picked for the jury.

Oh, and by the way. He had his date with the executioner.

The Wire had a correction, saying they're starting on the 17th.  My DISH PVR confirms: 4 1/2 hour shows starting at 9am EDT.

I watched a few of the episodes posted. They were amusing, partly informative and partly BS. Still they were worth an hour if nothing else is on. (I particularrly like the guy who gets wounded and has to carried in all three of the episodes I watched. "Dude, can I be the heroic one who gets the girl this time"? "No, lay there and bleed. If you want a line you can cry like a little girl". ;D). Overall the advice seems so so. The Hurricane episode was about 70% BS in this Florida boy's eyes. Don't swim 15 feet from the roof you are trapped on to grab a convient jon boat floating by because a gator will eat you? Yeah, he may also have the winning lotto ticket in his mouth. Your odds are about equal. ::) Likewise making an improvised silencer for a captured AK so that someone who has never shot before can make a thirty yard uphill head shot on a terrorist across the food court. :o ;D Still, while partially BS, there is some good advice, stuff most non ccw folks don't think about (like situational awareness, use of cover, speed, and violence of action). Overall, worth a watch, but nothing to write home about.

Watched the 2 hour block on SAT, here's a breakdown:

It's all branded as Don't Be a Victim, with different shows inside.  There are the long 'named' shows, but also short, 5 min, shows in between.
What If 25min: was all about the Luby massacre.  The 'what if' part was vague, and the show felt like Rescue 911
Predator Stopper 5min: was a gun review, in this case the Ruger LCP
Because Lives Depend on it 25min: is a gun training show
Sig School for Survival 5min: Don't remember much about this, and my notes are illegible.
Practical Tactical 25min is a non guns version of 'Because Lives' it features unarmed, knives, clubs
Even the Odds 5min was about a woman who was attacked in her bed and she stabbed him with a kitchen knife
Conceal & Carry School 25min is a Zero to Hero show taking a class of novice shooters through a intense class.

I think you should treat it has a bunch of seperate shows and deceide weither to watch them based on topic.  I'm taping them all next week to make sure my views don't change, but I liked Predator Stopper and Practical Tactical.  Many of the others seem (to me) to cover ground that's already been done or stuff I already know (e.g. I've been shooting 20 years, so a show about learning to shoot is of little value to me).

I'm not sure how I'll record JUST the 5min Predator Stopper show without recording What If.

For those that are interested...this Saturday on SpikeTV, High Caliber Training, will be featured on the "Don't Be A Victim" series called "Practical Tactical". The series starts at 9AM and goes til 11AM. It's been going for about 10 weeks now and they're finally getting around to our stuff. Next week should have the driving course or maybe the shoot houses...feel free to let me know what you think. Thanks!

High Caliber Training is just outside Memphis, TN...here's our website:  www.hicaltraining.com

The shows cover everything from training issues to gun reviews...
