See how well you do compared to the national averages. Once you see the results, you will know why the country is in the pathetic shape we’re in. Nobody really knows what’s going on! I contend the really uninformed Americans haven’t even taken this test.
Test your knowledge with 12 questions, then be ready to shudder when you see how you or others did.
( I hate to admit it..but I sucked! I only got 7 right.. I should have had 9 right but I over thought and talked myself out of 2 right answers.. >:(

Well I got 8 right, but I wish I knew which 8 they were. I guess it is not bad since I don't watch TV or get a newspaper.
-Bidah
-
10 of 12 right. Bidah there is a question by question answer on the left to click on. would have got the Dow question right but like M'ette I talked my self out of that. I thought it was the Nasdaq that was 10000 oh well not bad for not really paying attention to the news myself
-
Wow and I just clicked on the demographic breakdown. For a "High School or less" 'er I did very well. Pisses me off they are lumping it together High School or less rather than less than high school - high school / some college - college grad
Almost seems like a high school grad isn't worth anything to them

:'( :-[ :'(

Not to brag, but.......
Here's Your Score: You correctly answered 12 of the 12 possible questions along with approximately 2% of the public. You did better than 98% of the general public.
-
10/12... I got teh filibuster question wrong...thought it was 2/3 vote but apparently not. And did not know Michael Steele was chairman of the RNC.
I think I did ok.
-
11 right for me, better than 92% of the test takers. An equal percentage of test takers (6%) got 0 right..I would be interested a bit more in deeper analysis of this demographically but yeah in general it was pretty sad result set.

I got 11 out of 12. I forgot there is now another woman on the supreme court. So for being in the 18-29 range with some college education, I owned vs my peers. This tells me I'm way to old to be my age.
-
These things are useful as a reality check on ourselves. Are we paying enough attention be good citizens, or just voting based on emotions or ideology? I got all 12 right, but its what I do gor a living so it doesn't count. The fact is, I worked as a TA for a Prof that gave the US citizenship test to an intro to American government class at UT. Only about half the class passed, and most, barely. Sad.

12 out of 12 for me. I watch Fox News - Glenn Beck and O'Reilly etc.
-
12 out of 12. ;D
-
10 out of 12 for me - completely blanked on Ginsburg also (still?) being on the SCOTUS, and I thought some of the Pubbies (RINOs) had crossed-over on the healthcare bill.
-
soooooo~~ I really do feel dumb.........I had to really think about some of them too . I actually guessed on 2 of them that I got right.. ( now the truth is told) haha

10. I made the mistake of using the actual unemployment rate rather than the reported rate. :(
-
12 of 12
I disgree with the unemployment rate. Realistically, it's closer to 20% nationaly because of the way they calculate the number.
-
10. I made the mistake of using the actual unemployment rate rather than the reported rate. :(
Same here. 10 out of 12, looking at the demographics, young people are stupid. Who's in for raising the voting age to 30?
-

If they live in Fl. they aren't stupid, just the victims of a test obsessed state education department that can't be bothered with things like civics and current events. :'(
FQ13 who thinks if you're old enough to be drafted, you're old enough to vote not to be drafted (and drink a damn beer ::)).

HEY HEY HEY, I'm not going to be 30 for a few more years and I really like voting Obama out of office so... how bout not rockin me out of the boat? I am all for making every person who is under 30 take a mandatory basic Constitutional Education course provided by the Heritage Foundation to ensure that before you can vote you can prove you understand RIGHTS and our RIGHT not to be RULES by the Government.
-
12 of 12, though they're full of crap on the unemployment rate.
I guess that means I am qualified to be VP!! ;D
-
11/12. Other than the stock market question, I though it was pretty easy. Definitely raise the voting age! I've only got an AA and multimedia certificate from my design school and a crap load of community college - I think that makes me a "some college."
-
12 of 12
-
12/12. Wish they had a dem v rep v ind category. Would have been even more telling.
-
I set the standard for underachievers. I only got 6 right, but I made 11 guesses. :) I knew I was uninformed but didn't think I was that stupid.
-
11, I missed the unemployment question (I think they're wrong on that)
-
11 out of 12, 92% smarter than the average bear,...... ::)
Dinged on the REAL unemployment rate..... :-\
11, I missed the unemployment question (I think they're wrong on that)
+1 on that Majer.
-
11 OF 12, Got the stock market question wrong, on the number of pubes who voted in the senate for the health care bill, I wondered which time? I thought Olympia Snow voted for it 1 time?
-
Snow voted to get it out of committee...Dumb B!+ch
-

Not stupid, just uninformed. Since you've chosen Droopy as your avtar, here's the rolled up newspaper. Read the paper or watch the news at least five days out of seven or you are a bad American! (slap, slap) ;D We have a responsibility to stay abreast of events or we aren't a representative democratic republic, we're idiots voting for idiots and have no right to complain. This isn't a slam on you jumbo, its just making the point that if you don't have the facts you can't form an opinion, and if you have an opinion with no facts, well........

Ever wonder where academics got that "elitist" reputation?

I beg to differ TW. There is nothing more "elitist" about saying you need to keep abreast of current events, than there is saying you need to register for the draft, pay your taxes and show up for jury duty. Its a basic requirement of citizenship. We own this country. Bitch about Congress all you want, but we're the ones that put them there. If you don't know what you're voting for or against, you get what you deserve. To me, being informed is to getting good government, as getting a job is to financial security.
FQ13 who thinks this is just a home truth not elitism.
PS when the hell did being elite become a bad thing? What sort of socialist/rightwing crap is this? Is Peyton Manning an elitist? Is Warren Buffet? Is Jimmy Buffet for that matter? When did we start denigrating talent rather than emulating it? This is how civilizations fall, when the elite emulate the common, rather than the common the elite. One is an aspiration upward, the other, downward. When it comes to carpentry I want to be more like TAB. Machinery, I want to beTom, Music? Jaybet. Not saying anyone should want to be me, but the point is, when society gets to a point where we say "Oh, that guy has a degree and a decade of experience, he's an elitist, ignore him". We have a problem. We ignore excellence and encourage mediocrity and we wake up in the old USSR. I've probably been thinking about the Atlas shrugged thread too much, sorry about the rant.
-
Couple of points.
- The lame stream media is just a little bit biased, ya know? The information they provide is suspect in its intent.
- Being elite is great. Being an elitist (especially an unqualified one) is not great.

Agreed. I just have a problem with populism. Usually its a left wing thing (lets get the rich SOBs). Lately however, its beome a right wing thing (Sarah and W. being exhibits A and C) ;). The point is that when you start a political movement based on "I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night" or "the rich obviously stole their wealth from the poor" you set up a dangerous dynamic. It invites demagogues, class warfare and replaces debates with the Jerry Springer show. None of these are healthy for a republic. I'm probably not making this as clear as I should. Its just that I have issues (regardless of agenda) with folks who say that "Everything you need to know you learned in kindergarten".

I got 11 right.
"Here's Your Score: You correctly answered 11 out of the 12 possible questions, which means you did better on the quiz than 92% of the general public."
Just goes to show I know more useless info than the average person who commits to memory thing that are quicker to affect their lives. :)
-
Here's Your Score: You correctly answered 6 out of the 12 possible questions, which means you did better on the quiz than 58% of the general public.
-
I got the unemployment rate wrong. I was thinking actual. Somehow forgot about Sodamoyer. My excuse on that one is she isn't qualified so I don't count her ;D. And I misread the oil imporation question. Oh well.
-
I got 6.
-
I got 9. I picked 15% for unemployment, but they only admit to 10%, I couldn't remember I BOTH the other women on SCOTUS had retired so I only count Sotomayor, and I had to take a wild guess on the stock market, It was TO wild ;D
FQ, Ichiban is right, If your crap doesn't stink, it's a good thing, you are Elite. If you THINK your crap doesn't stink, it's a bad thing and you are an Elitist.
But you won't believe any of those little people that tell you so ;D

Tom
You, the Humble Tom Boga,n (one g) should understand what I'm saying here. It has nothing to do with ego or me. Lets assume FQ is off the grid. The point is that when people run against achievement honestly earned, not inheireted or given by the state, we are looking at an ugly kind of class warefare, only this time led by the right AND the left. We were discussing Atlas Shrugged the other day. This is what Rand was warning s against.
FQ13 who wonders "Who is John Galt"?
-
Exactly, and an "elitist" is one who DID NOT achieve. but STILL thinks they are better than you.
-

And again, we agree.
FQ13, who might actually have to think about voting for you if this keeps up so just stop it!

Phil, you did great, considering that you don't even live in the US!
We sure can't get the news from the news. Last night, a local Los Angeles news story reported about how the state was planning to offer more bear tags this next season to help take care of the increasing bear population problem. They let some tree-hugger lady spout her entire spiel about how the state just wanted to breed bears for revenue, but only showed clips of those opposed basically saying, "duh, it ain't so." I'm sure that if they asked someone in the know, they could have elaborated on the fact that this is actually good for the bear population and how rather than paying a state employee, or contractor to hunt the bears, it is worth allowing hunters to pay for the licenses. Someone may have given that answer, but our news wanted to editorialize by omission. Hey, it's CA!
-
11/12 Didn't know where the whacko X-mas bomber was supposedly trained. Think i did pretty good for a 26 year old who's generation generally doesnt know who their representatives are. ;D

You did better than many of my students in an intro to an American Government class at the university level would have. Good on 'ya (and shame on them). Its like a prof I worked for who pulled a "pop quiz" to his intro class. He gave the class in a University of Texas, Intro to American Government class (required) the citizenship test. He made this statement. "Everyone will take this test, and it will count as a quiz (he gave these about every other week). OR you can play for your grade. Pass it with a 75% or beter and you are done for the semester no need to attend or turn in any work. You get an A. Fail and you get an F game over, take the class next semester, because those are the stakes immigrants play for". Out of 214 students, less than 120 passed. Most of those barely passed. Only one student took him up on his challenge, by signing her name on the top of the paper. She passed with a 90, got her A and we never saw her again. Doc Jamail said, "On the one hand I'm sad to lose the one student in the class with a set of balls to match her brain. On the other hand, I taught her all I could when she signed the test." ;)
FQ13 who wishes folks actually taught civics and current events in the US. I mean, its only about how to run the country, nothing important. ::)

??? 9/12 I GUESSED ON JUST ABOUT EVERYONE TOO. ???
MAYBE I'LL BUY A LOTTERY TICKET NOW. ;D

12 for 12, Sorry to say but while I was taking this I was thinking "this is easy, who doesn't know this sh...". Then it took me to the results page... no wonder we be swirling the bowl.
-
OK so I just read all the posts in this thread, hope I didn't offend anyone with my comment.
FQ13 re: your reply #46; "civics and current events???" Man I'd be happy if they went back to actually teaching the 3 R's. My boys used to get into trouble at school arguing points with teachers, I think what frosted the teacher's tails was the boys' arguments were better reasoned and supported the those of the "alleged" educator.
Has anyone taken the citizenship test? I took the version that was around when I was a senior in high school('77) as part of a History class project on immigration. Even back in what my kids call the "dark ages", only half of the group taking the test passed. It was an interesting experience that I think everyone should try once. At the risk of sounding "elitist" I only got 2 questions wrong back then.
-
I got 10 right but should of been 11 the Christmas day bomber has been found to be aided by Israel not Yeman

11 of 12. Forgot about Sonia Sotomiozhfjkasbabajf.

10 for me as well. And I too used the real numbers and forgot about the latina with life experiences to make better decisions being on the court as I'm just a white male.
