I have an old origional 2nd gen G23 that has not failed once since I bought it new. I am thinking about upgrading to a new gen 4 G23. Are the new Glocks any different (other than cosmeticaly) from older models? My 23 is a constant ccw companion in a vm2 almost every day. Kinda like the rtf2 frame but not sure if its worth it. If I don't upgrade ill have to install new sights as my trigs are getting dim. Maybe just a trip to Glock for new internals might be in order, with my luck it would be lost in the mail.

There are some internals that are different.... mainly the recoil spring. Might want to give it some time to see if they have any issues before you give up a CCW that you have 100% confidence in.

I agree with Eric. Brand new stuff isn't always the best...I've had that experience. The BEST thing you could do is get the gen 4 and keep the old timer 'till you have a hundred percent faith in the new one.

I agree with both thoughts above. I have a gen2 and gen3's and I consider them all equals....just slightly different. In fact I would be tickled pink if they brought back the gen 2 frame! I just bought a gen3 g22 and have absolutely no buyers remorse or longing for the gen4.

Don't frequent the Glock forum but from what I read on another forum about the new G4 it is getting nothing but rave reviews. MB liked it a lot also.

+1 Jaybet and Eric.
My understanding is the changes are mainly to deal with issues they were having with heavier lights hanging on the rail. No rail, no problem.

Thanx guys, all good responses. However, is the gen4 or even gen3 frame stronger for the .40 with the 3rd pin above the trigger?

That 3rd pin is the Locking Block pin. It secures or strengthens the Locking Block (I don't know if that makes just a technical difference or a practical one).
If you haven't found this site, they give a great exploded interactive parts diagram for the Glock.

Im not saying that you shouldnt buy one.... Im lusting after the G17 myself..... But maybe you should hold off on selling your current CCW until you put the new Gen 4 through the ringer and are confident about its performance and also that you are sure there wont be any
recalls err uhhh upgrades additional perfection needed

As always, I'm here to offer solutions to the problems that plague my fellow downrange.tv-ers. Pick up the gen4 and send me the old timer. From what I've heard here and abroad, you should be satisfied. If not, we can trade back even-steven.
