Pssst! - I hate to break it to you, Mr. Helmke, but if you're in the same restaurant or coffee shop as I, I AM carrying a gun, but it's concealed and you have no clue. Now tell me, Mr. Helmke, just how intimidated were you about something you had no clue about? How much danger did I put you in? And they call those of us who conceal-carry paranoid!

Well said.. ;D

I may have to rethink that whole "Starbucks sux" thing.
I still don't like their over priced coffee though.

Its simple numbers for them.  Pissing off gun owner would mean more lost sales then telling brady where to stick it.

I don't like coffee, but a friend told me that their Hot cocoa is great, and they DO have some good looking overpriced brownies and cookies....

Starbucks still sux.  But I'm gonna make it a point to purchase at least one cuppa just as a show of appreciation.  Truth is I make a better cuppa at home.

I think I will have to learn to like coffee as to support Starbucks and their "Common Sense" gun stance. It's common sense to defer to the existing laws when it comes to carry in my business. WOW! "We defer to the fed, state and local laws in regards to guns."

The tend to over roast the beans...but it will wake you up.  I get gift cards for Starbucks for Christmas/birthday cause folks know I am a Coffee Nut.

Happened to be buying a cup just as they ran out  the brewed a new pot..and one of their pots is maybe 3 times the size of a home pot.  Well, the nice lady pulled their pot and refilled my travel mug from the first drippings...

Well, if you've ever noticed, the first bit of coffee from a brewer has Way more than it's share of the extract...

Felt like my hair was all on end...but nice =)

I am surprised that Starbucks wouldn't cave on this issue.  My perception of the company is that they are left-leaning.  As an aside, I would rather spend my coffee money with a local establishment than the chain shops - unless they ban guns.

They run their roasting at the EDGE so sometimes they get burned.  High risk, high reward.

After the Whole Foods CEO came out against healthcare, I have seen a lot of assumed liberal companies show a very libertarian streak.  There is HOPE.

I too believed that Starbucks was a pretty liberal company and I could swear I've read other press about some other liberal issues that they did actually side with. Being that I don't drink coffee, I may have to make it a point to occasionally visit and get a cocoa, or herb tea and they'll be getting a letter from me letting them know that when they support us, I'll support them and I'll bring friends too.

No Starbucks in my town, but I sent them an e-mail thanking them and assuring them that I will visit when I pass one of their stores.

Starbucks sux royally.

OK, they came down on the side of the law this time and we're getting this amped up about it? That is just sad.

They are a hugely anti-gun company and yes, they support all sorts of leftist looney things when no one is looking. But, give 'em an attaboy for obeying the law - this time.

I don't actually drink their crappy coffee..........and probably won't start to either....... I'm not much of a coffee drinker anyway.......their hot chocolate is OK, but it basically tastes like Swiss Miss Cocoa with a little whipped cream added.....
but anyway.......
I basically agree with everything Pathfinder posted. I didn't slobber in their ears, I just wrote them a note to say thanks for at least taking a step in the right direction.

I believe these dudes need a permit to carry openly in CA, that makes them upstanding citizens.
Brady, well, they need more Soy.

I still have a hard time supporting starbucks. After all they still refuse to send their coffee to our troops because they do not support the war. I guess no one has explained to them that supporting our men and women far from home, doesn't mean you have to approve of the cause.

This is 1/2 true according to snopes. Their company policy does not allow shipping free goods as donations and they choose to donate only in local communities where they have stores.
However, they do give free coffee to employees who then in return ship it to soldiers.

No permit necessary, but open carried firearms must be unloaded. Obviously not about self defense, but about making a statement. It can't hurt to get others more used to seeing firearms around town, but I just can't see myself carrying an empty gun.
