These are a couple of Magnum Research BFR big bore revolvers Melanie bought for me a few years back. One is in .45-70, and the other is in .500 S&W Magnum. The rounds pictured with the .45-70 are my handloads of a Lyman 552 grain cast Gas Check over a healthy dose of IMR 3031 Powder. Quite a handful ! The .500 S&W is pictured with 400 grain Sierra Jacketed Soft Points with a good dose of H-110. They really draw a crowd! both are beautifully made handguns that shoot very accurately. Bill T.

Purty!
I was just talking to someone last night about the Magnum Research .45-70 in the Friends of NRA package. We were deciding how to best package the DPMS AP-4, Kimber .308 and the BFR for maximum impact. Nice to see that someone has one and is enjoying it.

Those are so...MANLY! I haven't had a 45/70 pistol since I sold my JD Jones Contender...I have one of the .500 S&Ws and plan to get one of the 5-inch John Ross specials as well. I also have a couple of .454s, including a .454 Alaskan that would make God flinch with hot loads...

I really wanted to get another one in .30-30. They advertised it for several years, but I never saw one. Being the .30-30 is a bottle necked cartridge I'm thinking they had issues with cartridge set back locking up the cylinder. This was the reason the S&W Model 53 .22 Jet revolver was discontinued. Unless the chambers were perfectly clean and dry, the case would set back upon firing, tying up cylinder of the gun. I had heard that Taurus was going to produce a .223 revolver a few years back, but they never went into production with it either. It sure would have been nice to have either. A long barreled .223 revolver would make a super varmint rig. Bill T.

The story goes that s&w made the cylinder long enough on thier 500 mags so that they could chamber a 223. Acording to the smith rep, they were having probs on the protypes with set back and scraped the project.
If some one could make one that works, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

LOVE Big Bore revolvers! And the BFR is the ultimate Big Bore Revolver. Have the .45-70 myself. Always impresses the shooting buddies.
Bill, I HAVE seen 2 or 3 BFR's in .30-30, but needless to say few and far between. The local gun shows have a dealer that always has tables full of Deserts Eagles and BFR's (Both overpriced). Seen a bunch in 500, of course. Every now and then they'll have one of the .45 Colt/.410 ones. They have those more often that the .30-30. I'm told that American Derringer listed .223 as a chambering in their model 2 or Model 3 years ago. Also .45-70, which I'd love to have but probably only fire twice in my life.

One of the features I really like about the BFR is the use of a screw through the cylinder pin to retain it. I have several Ruger revolvers that have the spring loaded pin that snaps into the detent on the cylinder pin. On a few of them with heavy recoiling loads, I've had the pin pop out of the detent and move forward, tying up the gun. That cannot happen with the BFR. Another thing I like is the use of Stainless steel socket head cap screws to secure the frame, and the way the cylinder free wheels in either direction when you open the loading gate. They used their heads when they built that gun. Bill T.

Those are some nice concealed carry guns. ;D
Just think you can alter Crocodile Dundee's line "that's not a gun, this is a gun."

Droool!
One of the agents here in aus has BFR's and to my knowledge has a couple in 30-30.

I was nearly tempted to buy one in 45/70 last year. 2.5k is a little steep for this little black duck atm though. Although was seriously tempted to sell wife and kids, but then where would I come up with the other 2k ???
