A good Sheriff there.
A book worth reading The County Sheriff, America's Last Hope by Richard Mack. It can be found here

This sheriff is definitely someone that I could get behind. It is an election year, so it will be interesting to see where Larimer county voters stand, based on weather or not this guy keeps his job. He sounds to me like another from the mold of Joe Arpio. I say good on him. After reading this, and even though I don't live there, I emailed this guy to thank him for standing up for peoples right to protect themselves.
Exit question though....Do the anti's ever consider that all of the mass shootings have happened in places that have gun bans in place. I know that would be logical, but still? Oh wait I'm letting facts cloud the argument! Silly me.

Just like the shooting this week in Littleton, Co. The teacher tackled the shooter, and luckily the two students that were hit will survive.
Even School Resource Officers, can only respond if there is a "tip" or AFTER THE SHOOTING.
I could stroll on any campus right now walk around the quad, and if I were so inclined, could inflict terrible casualties. THAN campus security would show up...."Kinda when seconds count, the cops are minutes away" mentality.
If a lawfully carrying student can deter/ stop a threat in an almost instantaneous amount of time, or at least let the BG know that there are armed students about, these events would decrease.

I don't see how that's a problem. I mean after all, msnbc doesn't EVER stack their poll demographics. ::)

Have you ever wondered why there are 100 times more respondants to an MSNBC poll than ever watch the network? Their bloggers get more eyes than they do ::)
And even the huffy post has a decent article on the gun ban: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-campbell/sheriff-vows-to-subvert-c_b_476787.html

well I hope that the Sheriff get's re-elected and the gun-ban is overturned.

UPDATE: email from the sheriff:
http://www.saysuncle.com/2010/02/26/why-we-win-6/
You’ll recall the Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden who said he would not enforce a university gun ban because it was wrong-headed. Apparently, he’s been getting a lot of email and has responded. I received a copy of his email:
I may have already responded to some of you so if this is redundant, please forgive me. I have been overwhelmed with e-mails regarding my position on the CSU rule prohibiting students, faculty or staff from carrying anything on campus that may be used in self-defense; i.e. concealed handgun, mace, or stun gun. This is incredibly irresponsible.
I have received 170 e-mails from all corners and coasts of the United States supporting my position. I haven’t had such a response since my Third Annual Politically Incorrect Christmas tree Decorating Party or the Balloon Boy incident. For those of you who haven’t made the connection, yes, I’m the overweight bald Sheriff who was at the center of the Balloon Boy Hoax. I tried responding individually to your e-mails to express my appreciation for your kind words, but it soon became evident that I wasn’t going to be able to. I do have a few other things on my plate. To each of you, please accept my humble appreciation for your support and encouragement.
By the way, I did get one negative e-mail. 170 to 1, and it wasn’t from Dr. Frank, the CSU President.
Many of you have suggested that I run for higher office. I have said it before, but I don’t think there is any higher office than that of Sheriff. It is an office that gives me the most direct contact with the people and the best opportunity to act rather autonomously to do the right thing. I only have to answer to the public, not the politicians. In any event, I’m about to wrap up a 38 year career and my 12th as Sheriff. I would love to hang around but Colorado enacted term limits several years ago to ensure that the most qualified and competent people can’t remain in office too long.
Again, thank you for taking the time to write but my position really wasn’t a difficult or courageous decision to make as some of you have implied. It was simply the right thing to do and in keeping with my sworn oath.
Where were the Brady grassroots?

The downside of term limits.....
I do hope he is able to recommend a successor and that the new sheriff has the same commitment to his Oath and the Citizens that this one does.

Yup. And its why I don't like them. We do have term limits. Two years for the House and six years for the Senate etc.. Its up to the voters to decide if they want a change.
