Federal authorities are investigating whether more than 500 weapons missing from the Cleveland Police Department's evidence room were part of an illegal firearms-trafficking scheme.

While selling these guns, (after theirer evidentiary value has expired) seems like the right thing to do, this seems hinky. I think its stupid for a PD to destroy thousands of dollars worth of good weapons in the name of PC and then tax me to pay for the money they could have made. However, in this case it sounds like the good'ol boy mentality was in full effect, three for the range, two for me.

Oh this is ironic.....

The mayor of Cleveland outspokenly defies state preemptive laws by enforcing the cities illegal firearms possession laws...

Getting guns off the streets seems to be  his life work, much like the politicians in Chicago.

um how dumb can you be?  listing a gun as destroyed then giving/selling/trading it to some one.  Only a dumb ass would think that would not come back to bite him sooner or later.

Stories like this really give me cause for a flat spot in the middle of my forehead.........

My B-i-L is a cop and he was over at my place a few days ago and was telling me they were due to melt down a batch of guns. They used to have a process that allowed them to sell them after being cleared as evidence. The money was used to but vests and other equipment. He said he begged the chief to auction them, but new rules regarding 'liability issues' require the destruction of the guns.......sad.
