Title: Michael Janich "Best Defense Street Skills" Seminar in Ohio
Post by: Michael Janich on March 08, 2010, 11:40:28 AM
16-18 April 2010, Grove City, Ohio – The Best Defense/Martial Blade Concepts “Street Skills” Seminar
Michael Janich’s “Street Skills” seminar is both a modular and an integrated approach to developing practical personal defense skills. Drawing from the skill sets highlighted in the popular “Best Defense” television show, it features instructional modules that focus on the defensive use of the knife (Janich’s acclaimed Martial Blade Concepts curriculum), practical unarmed skills (Damithurt Silat), empty-hand defenses against weapons (Counter-Blade Concepts), and the defensive use of impact weapons, including flashlights, sticks, and canes. These instructional modules will focus on these topics, while at the same time identifying and developing the body mechanics, leverages, patterns of motion, and reactive principles that serve as “common ground” to all of these skill sets. This approach enables students to develop practical, usable, and highly retainable skills in a very short time and allows them to easily adapt these skills to different weapons and circumstances.
This seminar will be conducted at Grove City Karate, 4068 Hoover Rd., Grove City, OH 43123. To register, contact Dave Holloway at (614) 539-5425. The schedule of instructional modules and training tuition is as follows:

6pm to 9pm  - Introduction to the defensive use of the knife: A Crash Course in Martial Blade Concepts

Saturday, 17 April: $125.00

1pm to 5pm – Empty-hand defenses against knife, stick and other weapon attacks: Critical skills of Counter-Blade Concepts (CBC)

Stay safe,

Mike

I spoke to the host of this seminar this weekend and there are still a few slots open. I hope to see some DRTV forum members there.

Stay safe,

Mike

I'd like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the Street Skills seminar this past weekend. The turnout was awesome--30+ participants--and we were able to cover all aspects of personal defense skills, including empty-hand tactics, knife, short stick, and cane. Since a number of the players were also law enforcement officers, we also delved into weapon retention, restraint and control/joint locks, and even some vehicle/prisoner extraction stuff. It was a great event and everyone came away with a lot of new knowledge and skill.

I'd like to offer a special thanks to my hosts, Dave and Kelli, and to my meat puppet Bryan--may you heal quickly.

A fall event in Columbus is already in the works. More details to follow...

Stay safe,

Mike

Not to speak for MJ, but I believe he has stated that the local folks would need to kick it off.  Getting things set up and verifying  enough local interest to support a class.

Would be nice to get a "check list" or a contact so folks could determine what needs to be done and how to go about starting the process.
