Title: Need Tips from women who pack heat
Post by: Walter45Auto on March 08, 2010, 03:31:14 PM
A friend of mine at church bought herself a S&W .38 snubbie at a recent gun show, and she wants to get a carry license. SHe asked me a few weeks ago, "How would a woman who dresses like I'm dressed carry one?" Being a T-shirt & jeans wearing man, I had no clue. So any ladies here got any advice I can pass on???

How is she dressed? If she wears a dress.. you about have to keep it in your purse.. I have tried to hook my holster inside my skirt but the weight pulls it down so it doesn't work.. There are the tight spandex like under-tee-ware also that you can get that allows you to carry close to your body under the arm.. ( I tried it.. was a bit uncomfortable for me.)
I am having Bob Mernickle make me a custom carry holster for my LCP..  The holster is more than half the battle of carrying comfortable for a woman.. I have a soft leather one now that I use.. its ok too..
I carry on my left side in front  right in front of my hip bone.. as I cross draw with my right hand..( its just the way I am comfortable with doing)
We women really DO have a problem with carrying when we wear tight jeans and tighter tops.. I refuse to wear in the back of my pants.. I don't want anything I have to reach around to get.. I figure that if I am ever going to be in a physical struggle with someone coming at me from behind.. I want to be able to get my hand directly in front of my pants( almost by my belly button) to draw.. even if I am crouched in a ball I have a better chance of drawing there than anywhere else on my body.

Tell her to really try some different types of ways .. Take her gun into places and have someone who makes CC rigs help her out..

I guess we need to know how she dresses. Church lady or Angelina Jolie? (if its the latter, I want a number). ;) Seriously, there is the "deep conceal" system which is basically a thong/jock strap deal. By this I mean, the straps are over your hips, the gun hangs low and centered over your privates below your waste band. Sort of what M'lette is talking about. If the weather is cool enough for a light jacket/blazer, in the pocket carry. I don't like in the purse as thats what the BG will demand first. Still, better than nothing. Maybe trade those tight jeans in for a hippy look? Peseant blouse over a skirt with an IWB? If she can wear untucked, its what I and every other Florida boy and girl is stuck with. Chinos for pockets, IWB for jeans with an untucked shirt. If she wants to go retro, there's always the Bond Arms Derringer in a garter belt holster, but then I definately want her number. ;D ;D ;D

Skirts, dresses, pants - smart carry (http://www.smartcarry.com/). Tight pants? You may have to go a little looser, just like men do for an IWB.  I use a Smart Carry w/jeans sometimes, sweats always.

To get at the smart carry under a skirt, lift the skirt. Yeah, yeah, you flash the bad guy but the next (and maybe the last)  flash he sees is what's important to you.

Lenny Magill and his wife are a first class act all the way! They have all kinds of womens concealment options. They aren't cheap, but all are of very high quality. You won't get "taken" with anything you buy from them.   Bill T.

Don't you think it is kind of odd that we have some guys providing carry advice for women?

I'm just asking... ;D

Not at all. I'm not ogling the models in the Victoria's Secret catalog! I'm just looking for tactical solutions for concealed carry, in fact, I'm looking very closely. ;D

Followup question... do they make shoulder holsters that are fitted for women? My friend says she wants to try a shoulder holster.

W45...Try Fist Holsters @...WWW.FIST-INC.COM or call...800-443-3478.  They do quality work and will make it your way.  Ask a lot of questions and see if they might have what she wants.

FWIW

Richard

PS: I have one of their holsters and it is quality all the way.

PPS: No I am not being paid by FIST!
